  • ***UPDATE***. Since filming this video, I have learned that you can make adjustments to the presser foot which enables it to transition easily when sewing through different layers and thickness in the same seam. I will be talking about this as well as demonstrating in future videos.
    =================================================================================
    In this video I take a first look at using my newly purchased Sailrite Fabricator Industrial Walking Foot Sewing machine for bag making. I was first attracted to this machine by Sailrite's claim that you can threads ranging from General Purpose to V-138. My favorite thread to use is the Guttermann Mara 70 which is a Tex 40 thread. After making a few bags on the Fabricator with the Guttermann thread, I can tell you that Sailrite's claims are true. After doing a tiny bit of tweaking with my top thread and bobbin tensions and using a size 16 needle, I was able to run my thread beautiful without one instance of thread breakage or shredding. I am very pleased to be able to use my favorite thread in the Fabricator.
    In the video, I will be sewing the Sunshine Crossbody Pouch by Bagstock Designs. But the focus of the video is not on constructing the bag, but on the machine's performance. You will see me sewing through various materials and thicknesses as I test the machine for materials I like to use in bag making.
    Here is a link on how to change presser feet: • Installing Cording Foo...

    This is probably the most professionally produced and articulately concise demonstrations of the Fabricator on the Web. Truly an excellent fact filled instructional video. One thought is that you might have switched back to the original ridged foot after sewing the zipper to avoid slippage at the seams...

    After hours and days of research for another industrial (I have a Techsew 2600 Pro) that has a flatbed I came across your video. I wanted a workhorse that will sew anything I put underneath it and hopefully never have to buy another machine then I came across your video. Best detailed I’ve seen yet therefore I just purchased a Sailrite just like yours!! Thank you so much for your video.

    Awesome video. I've been looking at the fabricator for awhile also. My main use will be canvas for tents and tipis. I have zero experience using any kind of sewing machine. I've watched a ton of sailrite videos and now I'm glad I found your channel!! I'm in Montana. If you were closer I'd pay for lessons!!! Lol.

    Ahhh you got the machine I wanted. Due to space issues I could not get the fabricator. But I did get the leather works about a month ago, the table is very compact. Earlier today I also changed my thread, I went to a polyester 69 and I also used a sunshine tote for my test run and had no thread or tension issues. My machine came with a smoother foot (than original), but it still have grooves. So far so good :) I love my machine

    It just seems like this machine would be perfect for bag making as it will handle what would be considered lightweight fabrics, for an industrial, all the way up to thick leather. Plus the ability to easily change feet for me is a big plus as I love to add piping to my bags so a piping foot is a plus.

    Can it sew a huge bag, like a travel bag, with leather, canvas, and cork, because the arm of the machine is really important, in order to put the material through as you're sewing. Some indistrial can't do that.

    • @RosiesArtStudio
      @RosiesArtStudio  3 года назад +5

      The company is in the US. It has been family owned for many years. The customer service has been excellent and they have a very good YT channel with instructional videos for their machines. I wanted to buy from a US company and I would have to wonder whether I would get the same customer service with a Juki. I’m interested in this machine for bag making and occasional leather sewing. When sewing leather it is important to have the ability to sew into the same holes when back stitching. You don’t want to create any unnecessary needle holes. I hope I’m communicating my concern clearly. Can you tell me your opinion on the ease of accomplishing this? Thank you.
    Great video by the way.

    • @RosiesArtStudio

      Considering the fragility of my bone, no one can be weaker than I am. I had great difficulty in the beginning using the knee lift but you get used to it and it does become easier. Make sure your leg is positioned to best push the lever. I found, being so weak, it mattered where on the side of the knee I pushed the lift. I'm sure most people don't even think about it. Now if only I didn't have so much trouble turning the balance wheel. It doesn't help I am left handed

      @@RosiesArtStudio thank you, but sadly it doesn’t work. I have literally had my Sailright Fabricator for one week, and I have spent this entire time figuring out how to make it work and it just won’t. I was able to make successful stitches; however, the needle keeps breaking the thread whenever I pull out my fabric. I have tried adjusting the tension to changing my needles to ball point needles so the thread could avoid breaking due to the sharp needle; consequently, it made no difference.... I will be selling my machine since my sewing is predicated up organic cotton and natural fibers.
