Yeah couple screw ups in this song with Peter haha but his voice wow! and Giffys Bass texture and touch and skills are on full show here. The Mix and raw sound but all the instruments are beautify sounded and really was a perfect magical concert with the ships going by just at the right time and both guitarist also with so many little bits and sounds and "duelling" . funny having a band that sort of has 2 lead guitars? well... mostly jim and he like Knofler is top writer, lead guitar, piano, keyboards and vocalist. Martin has his moments and is very fluent and energy.. Hurst is always spot on and powerful and a rock with the bass lines and all very professional but relaxed too.
Often overlooked is Garretts amazing vocal range-listen at 2:36, wow.... to go that high AND come down from there is not easy. Poetical lyrics that summed up the essence of our country. The dude also got swagger like no other. They were so tight live, and for me they will always be the greatest aussie rock band.
Great zombie jesus .......agreed. I always loved the brilliant (title) track Place Without a Postcard, another example of PG’s vocal range - when he sings “I saw the exits closing now”......blows me away, saw them live countless times way back when, brilliant band!
What sucks is over the past 10 years I've seen almost every midnight oil video on RUclips, and I'll probably never see any other full length concerts from them. I'll never see how truly amazing they were. Do you by chance have any recordings of that concert?
@@jakejive7760 contact the Australian Broadcasting Commision & you can request from the triple j archives so much. Their gig in 1981 to inaugurate triple j ( Sydney's 2nd FM radio station) is immaculate...all early & explosive material when still quite cryptic lyrically. Good luck.
Does anyone know why only the strong is unavailable. Lucky I put the concert on CD long before it became unavailable. I always liked the lead in with the bridge harbour.
hes all over the place in that song and the guys are grinning all the way through. dont know if it was a new song or what happened, but they are pros and kept it going and Rob counted them in and Bass just kept it smooth without a note missed. Its a hell of an asset to have a good bassman who can really add to the sound and add some frills with a light touch too

Peter Gifford really Rips the bass. Should be in the Hall of fame really
Indisputably one of the great concerts of all time.
God damn, Peter Gifford what a bass line you legend.

Oh the memories from 1985 as a 16 year old teenager watching this live on ABC.
Same simulcast over FM stereo . . cool
2025 and this song is pure prophecy except now it is 1 minute and 29 seconds to midnight.
Yep. Just posted this on various platforms for just that reason.
"driving a dumptruck up to the sun" Fucking brilliant. Its like they lived 2020 back in 1983.
Love the way Hirstey whacks them drums!!
That bass 😍
Peter Gifford with a 62 P bass a SVT and 4x15" speakers. Just beastly !!
I love it when Rob said”1 2 3 4”

'and hope drains out the side of the page' Awesome lyric.
Probably one of the best Oils' songs ! Great bass line, very neat, as usual with Giffo...
Giffo was an absolute beast on that P bass.

And you can't see ME. Love the Oils, thanks.
Me with a capital letter refers to God.
Jason Barbush .......that’s usually “HE” but regardless, that was not my intention, the capitals were used merely to emphasise the word.
Can't beat live music
Ain't that the gospel truth.
Awrsome👍❤️🇦🇺🎶🎶🎶

The trained eye will see Pete thought they was doing a different song, but recovered well. As he does.
Timeless message only we got the message 12 years ago no scary amount of decades ago we could have made the world/worlds last forever

Where has my youth gone?
same here wtf it's been 30 years since 1987
the year after i smoked weed for the first time. i'm not intimidated by the trolls as much as the reality of time
JA: It has taken mine by the hand... and run and run and just kept on running through time's cow pie-laden meadow!
John Allardyce I was in year 10 Baulkham Hills high school when this album came out, great memories
Jason Barbush Exactly the same for me, year 10 high school Sydney

cool it is to spell it wrong to alter its meaning.
A Hippocritt is when a Hippo rolls a natural 20.
