    Anthony, I have always considered myself a pretty big fan of a great chest. Watching one of your Marvel Legends videos is a stark reminder that greed is more prevalent in product design than common sense. At Hasbro, greed must be part of their culture. A 7/10 Iron Man in 2024 is unacceptable as a collector. Thanks for your review on this one.

    Given he is wearing armor, I think Iron Man doesn’t need butterfly joints. Characters like Spider-man can use them, or characters like Warbird, where they can hide them in the design, that’s great too.

      Hasbro ships figures with lower legs swapped too. It's been a problem for a long time and it seems to be only select figures that have an issue but when it does it's basically the whole run of that figure. Clone Wars Pilot Hawk is a prime example.

  • @id0licious

    I'm not only on team "only use a butterfly join when necessary and only if it's cut properly" but I'm also starting to lean towards "single-jointed figures can function just as good and even look better than double-jointed figures when executed well." I recommend taking a look at the Black Series Ki-Adi-Mundi, Assajj Ventress, or select others from the line. Even Hasbro can do it!

      I'm all for Butterfly Joints if done well. Sadly Hasbro muff them up more often than not. One they got right is on most of their Wolverine figs. Decent range and sculpted musculature on the chest butterfly.
      I don't see that it's an; either big chest or, puny chest with butterfly joints choice.
      Jada's Bison fig has a big chest and butterfly joints. It can be done.
      I recently saw the Captain Marvel (Monica Rambeau) Doctor Doom from Secret Wars, two pack at a knock down price. The nostalgia hit was heavy, but they both use dated crappy articulation. I'd rather put my money toward the new Jada Street Fighter figs that are releasing later this year.

    There's no issue in his chest size. The design is narrow and almost flat. That's how it looks in the comics, it's not supposed to look bulky. The sculpt of the armor is almost perfect (minus the hidden small shoulders).

      @@glennmanilingThat's not even the same armor, that's the Extremis Armor, Model 30. This is supposed to be the Pentagon Armor, either Model 25 or 26 which would be Mark 1-A and Mark 1-B respectively, but the packaging claims it's the Model 20 which is actually the Tin Man suit and the figure has the yellow oblique area which was on the Tin Man Armor that I've never seen on Pentagon before, on neither 1-A or 1-B. It's damn inaccurate, especially on something like the Pentagon Armor which was one of the bulkiest suits that started looking robotic as opposed to having muscles poke through the suit, so seeing him look this narrow in the chest is bothersome because I happen to have quite a strong affinity for this suit.

    I personally F'ing love butterfly joints, it opens up your dynamic posing possibilities and in some cases, even gives you room for sillier poses.
    That being said, Hasbro really seems to struggle with this type of joint when it involves a character wearing anything other than a cloth uniform or sporting a bare chest.
    And this all comes from a guy that very mostly loves Hasbro, even when they screw up.

    • @glennmaniling

      Ball pegs let the waist move more naturally, compared to thighs and biceps that just rotate, the waist needs to also lean similar to a neck.

    • @samitsuyaru
      @samitsuyaru 7 дней назад +1

      @@glennmaniling yeah, I agree. Waist swivels are bad. Ball joints are good. But my point is that thighs, biceps and shin swivels are horrible looking, and non anatomically correct. Legs rotate from the hip, arms rotate from the shoulder. Lower leg can rotate from the knee. And lots of toy companies do their figures that way. Without ugly and non anatomically articulation.
      But people here are mad cause a little waist cut, and totally fine with everything else. That's not rational. And that's my point

    Butterfly joints when necessary for the character and only when done right. The range of the articulation and the overall look of the figure is still more important. A figure like armored Daredevil may not have butterfly joints, but the range of the articulation of its other joints more than make up for it.

  • @jamessnow8512
    @jamessnow8512 8 дней назад

    I think the hard thing with getting a butterfly joint right is that it's an extension of the pecs. So it is tucking inside the chest rather than flexing underneath the surface and stretching with extension. So for it to be done right, they might as well reserve it for characters that really need it. I don't have this figure in hand yet, but I do see how unnecessary that joint is. This and Extremis are my favorite armors, but I really didn't expect either to be done perfectly by Hasbro.

  • @Jiggeh
    @Jiggeh 7 дней назад

    I'm basically on the opposite side about butterfly joints - I want to have them, unless the character/design absolutely necessitates *not* having them there. But that's of course under the assumption that they actually function, and don't completely ruin the look. I don't give a crap about having points of articulation just for the sake of checking off some box if the joint doesn't work, but that applies for anything, not just butterfly joints. Simply put I'm typically more annoyed with butterfly joints that don't work than with their aesthetic impact. But if they fail on both counts, yeah that obviously sucks.
    In this instance (as with many MLs) I think they could've given the chest more volume irrespective of the butterfly joint - it's just one of the countless weird anatomy quirks we see all over the place in Marvel Legends, so I think the inclusion of butterfly joints is only partly to blame. Having said that I don't think your critique is misplaced; had the figure come out with a great looking, well-proportioned torso but no butterfly joints, I don't think I would've missed them.

    As always, I'm all for WORKING butterfly joints. Pretty much from any other company. Hasbro has this weird thing where they see a trend in articulation and SORT OF do it. Like when they started trying the new neck peg on Spider-Man, randomly sucked at it, and cut a giant chunk out of the back of his neck to make it "work" instead of...you know, redesigning it. They're always halfway there and then just stop dead.
    That said, I also get a lot of figures I'm happy with and are fun to pose. Just doesn't mean that Hasbro really understands this most of the time. There's just always SOMEthing. A strange joint here, a weird sculpt there, a part reuse that had no thought put into it. Just a shame.

Sometimes you have to make a cut in a spot where there isn’t one on a human. I’m sorry the illusion doesn’t fool you but I can see their vision. There are lots of things to complain about with this figure, the elbows, the wrists, the waist cut, etc. but the butterfly joints are not one of them. Also, I don't typically comment more than once on a single video but I just finished it and I have to say...unforgivable release. I really wanted this guy but the fact that you can't accomplish the character's most iconic pose and the butterfly joints are only there for appearances...I'm embarrassed for you Hasbro.

    I'm just buying ZD toys Ironman these days. Articulation's crap but at least they look good with their metallic paint and hard plastic. Not some weird soft plastic with swirling gold paint.

    They even got the model wrong, this is model 24 cuz model 20 has round knees and doesn’t have the blade in the back.

    This is the 1st marvel legend I actually want... After like a decade of horrid figures they finally made one I like. However I prob won't get it cause there's no other good marvel figs to go with it.

    I mean at this point the engineers on the legends team are the worst in the industry. What do we need to get a good figure from them across the board?pay $30 a figure? Oh wait collectors already do that and still don’t get a quality release. This is why I haven’t bought a legends figure in 3 years

    I'm team MORE ARTICULATION, but it has to be executed well. Do I want Hasbro to add unnecessary articulation? No. The waist twist here is the perfect example. If our options are this UGLY horizontal cut or NO ARTICULATION AT ALL, then make his waist a brick, because they clearly aren't able to pull it off within their budget. Do it right or don't do it at all.

    I learned that butterfly joints are completely useless. I think the best shoulder joints would be something like that Cable you just reviewed. They almost got it but that ugly underarm lump holds it back. I hate this trend of small chests. It doesn’t look good, ever.

    Butterfly joints for smaller characters like Spider-Man for sure. For the likes of Cap and Iron Man, no. Just looking at my shelf and the basic DCUC buck that they used for most figures is fantastically proportioned and very super-heroic and they don't have a butterfly between them.
