    One of the most significant Nanyin music suites, the song speaks of the story ‘Leaving Behind My Embroidered Shoes’. Set in the Song dynasty, a young man named, Guo Hua was on his way to the imperial examination when he met a beautiful lady in a rouge shop. He bought her some rouge and agreed to meet her at the Xiang Guo Temple on the night of the Lantern Festival. However, on the appointed night, Guo had one too many drinks with his friends and slept through the night at the temple. Disappointed, the young lady left but not before leaving behind her shoes as evidence of her presence.

    《趁赏花灯》出自《留绣鞋》本事。郭华进京赴试,于京都胭脂铺见王月英,心生爱慕,互约元宵相国寺相会,是日,郭华醉卧不醒,英见状脱弓鞋藏于郭华身上,败兴而归。
