After months of cycling through the mountains of Southeast Asia we finally arrive at the Pacific Ocean. Along the way we meet local farmers, busy with planting their rice and get a glimpse of how the land was worked in the old days. A local market turns into a lovely hustle and bustle escape from cycling and we learn how to blend in and have fun with the people... and then we hear the news that would have drastic consequences for the rest of our trip!

For sure, first time I went to the Netherlands I thought, jeez these people are so direct it's bordering on rude, but then I thought, really they are just being honest, and I warmed to it, which was good, because I went to Germany and Denmark next and straight talking is a thing ..lol

I was cycling in NZ around that time. Far away from home. It was the scariest experience I had but finally got safely home. It's interesting to watch other people's similar experiences

It's always the laughter we remember from Vietnam.
We rode down to Singapore from Cam Ranh in 2019, but went back to explore more of Vietnam last year and we were down in the Mekong Delta when Covid struck. It was all very unreal.

i went on a 3 month journey 3 years ago, and this is making me want to explore again, once things are easier and more free.

This video was really interesting! The interaction with the people - I particularly laughed with your response "No, no baby" - the workers in the field, and the scenes along the coast. The scene riding along the red sand road at (4:22) looked magical. It must have been difficult for you to know what to do with the virus situation, and I am glad that you were able to travel and still return safely.
We often said we stored our babies in our pannier bags... Worked like a charm to get people to laugh 😄
It wasn't easy to understand what was going on and to make a decision... We where in a big cycling whatsapp group and more and more people made the decision to go back home. We stretched our time a little bit but eventually had to make a choice.
Really interesting and kind of surreal to watch this in May 2023. Must have been a bizarre experience being on the road at the start of it all
It was! Especially when things started to close down. We will be looking back at this one in a few years and be like we could have never imagined how it would play out.

The taditional market and paddy field are so similar in my country, Indonesia...
Weer een mooie indruk hoe divers de aarde is met al zijn soorten mensen. Zo zit je in Laos waar de mensen redelijk rustig en teruggetrokken zijn wat ik begreep, en zo zit je in Vietnam waar men weer een stuk drukker en lawaaiiger zijn... Het is natuurlijk een momentopname maar toch leert het je hoe lastig het zou kunnen zijn om mensen van verschillende pluimage en culturen in harmonie met elkaar te laten leven... Ik kijk al uit naar de volgende, maar krijg wel het idee dat we richting de "grote pauze" gaan... Tot later, Kees

It's kind of surreal to watch this now and be looking back in time to how you were processing the emerging virus situation. I'm glad the travels were better after spending time in the culture and getting a feel for it.
For us it's pretty strange to see back that footage as well. Hopefully the situation of the world gets back to 'normal' soon so we can all get back out on the road again 🙂

What a beautiful video. The way you combine the lifestyles and bike touring is really perfectly balanced. Years ago in the states we had plant a tree program. Just faded out. Wouldn't it be great to bring back a program that actually helps the earth. You have seen so much in all your travels around the world. Wow that's a hard question as we visited so many countries and each of them has its own beautiful unique features... If we can summarise what really made the trip it's the hospitality and kindness of the people we met, in real life, and also through our youtube channel. We truly experienced that no matter what culture, religion or upbringing there's always a common ground of care and kindness that made us feel connected and welcome anywhere in the world!

That’s so funny last spring I found a Japanese cherry tree. I hauled it home from Walmart. It was 3$ USA . It survived the extreme winter with temps that dip to -40 degrees below zero,

I just started to watch the playlist from your video collection. It feels like one of my dream come true, touring by bike around the world. Thank you. And as for the virus, yes it's true, and its very contagious. You better pick any route that far from crowded city. Use N95 masker when in public area. In Indonesia where I live, some tourist attractions is still closed due to the virus. Nevertheless, I think you should keep cycling, stay on village route / forest with minimal contacts from others. It will be much safer. Even if you going back to home now, the virus is already reach Europe. All you can do is stay at home then.

Finally a new video (I am happy to see it), this is the first time you guys talked about Corona, I was wondering about it for a while about how you guys look at it. In S.E.A region Vietnam is one of the country that kinda have the least case. So far Philiphines, Indonesia & Singapore has the highest case, and Malaysia just recently declare to close it's border completely for any traffic from outside. Just equipped yourself with at least masker and hand sanitiser all the time these days, and avoid super crowded place you'll be fine. Looking forward for your next video guys... Stay safe :).
From now on you will hear more about it as it impacted our journey quite a lot. Not compared to how many other people have suffered from the situation...

Great video. I cancelled my trip to Cambodia and Vietnam one day before I was to go because of the virus. Do you see many tourists? I was sad that most people use plastic bags in the market. What a pity when there are so many other alternatives.

Very nice. I have a gorgeous young Vietnamese cycling friend whose family fled here to the US to escape communism. She got into Notre Dame and graduated on a full scholarship. But she wants to make pottery for a living., She is "bugging out" to be with her sister in New Mexico, and is trying to find a place where she can bring mom and dad to start a homestead. She is the sweetest person I've ever met. The whole culture is very friendly, but you are right about them being so "fiery". You do not want to piss these people off.
