Hello gem and daisy you both looked like you all had a good time i have followed you for years and in heart of hearts with your grit and determination you gem you have helped me so much
Great video Gem. That ramp onto the Eurostar was great, shame all trains don't have those. Plenty of space inside too which is refreshing. Looks like a really fun trip and I'll definitely look into the Eurostar.
Thank you for such an awesome video. I am a wheelchair user myself and would be going to Paris with my 11 year daughter this December. Your videos are so insightful and informative. I would also be taking the Eurostar to London as well very excited for that too.
Obviously, it’s hard to pick holes in such a fabulous trip, but a couple of things did stick out. Firstly, when you went to the table tennis, the disabled seats with the lowest of any of the spectators, meaning your view was poor. This happens time and time again at sporting events and really should be addressed. Secondly, the Access on the train, and particularly ongoing to use the toilet, required some tight turns. So many years are used a scooter for travelling because I’m tetraplegic and didn’t have a suitable powered wheelchair. This is similar to having your Batec, but of course without the ability to detach. I suspect this train would’ve been very difficult for me. Now I finally have a proper power chair, I would manage much better. I made crepes Suzette for my OT when I was in the Spinal Unit in Glasgow 20 years ago. When I was back in last year, she was still there and remembered my crêpes.!
The train we were on out bound is one of the older trains which I think they are fasing out. In bound we were on one of the newer trains, where the toilet was absolutely massive, and much easier to get to. :)
Looked up the Eurostar route, just so I had some idea of how far it is, and it says it's 215 miles (346 km). Just wanted to mention it in case anyone was wondering.
The Louvre is a disappointment. Very diffucult to navigate. A lot of the lifts were closed off and/or not functionig. Seemingly only one usable exit in such a huge place. Some staff closed off the upstairs early and expected me to walk down huge steps. Before letting me use the lift, they argued with me for 10 minutes. One of them continued to argue with me on the lift. Once I got off that lift I spent an hour or more trying to find a way out. A lift with -1 and (-1) numbering for 2 different levels made things confusing.
Hey Gem loved the video, I was meant to go to the Paralympics but unfortunately I had a health issue so couldn't go, but my mum sister we to the Olympics and got me a Paralympics mascot to clip to my wheelchair bag.
I sadly had an awful experience. Travelled in a chair with my partner and small children and I was separated from everyone and put in the guard carriage where they transport prisoners! I was traumatised by the whole experience and unable to use the toilet as I had no carer.
I have to be honest, I did not complain after my return home although I complained very loudly during’transit’. Over the years I have been ground down by the complete lack of concern by companies and people. Complaints seem to fall on deaf ears. There are only so many letters of “sincere apologies “ I can take before I gave up. I am travelling to Sydney in a few weeks with Qantas. Fingers crossed the back of my wheelchair stays attached to my chair this time. 😅
Hello, how are you? I wanted to ask you about how to keep clothes clean from wheelchair tires because they attract dust and mud. I suffer from this problem a lot. ❤
i want an Omeo so bad but its so expensive, especially being on benefits, and I don't have the space for a second powerchair and I cant give up my chair with the lifting and reclining seat
Good question.....The photographer we were with was a local. He took us to a cafe round the corner like 100m. BUT it had steps to get in and toilet downstairs. So we sat out side, as went to the toilet at the Eiffel Tower.
Thats a good question, Im hoping over the years I'll be able to answer that as I tick places off. Im not too sure, but ive heard that Barcelona is really good.
at 18:24 how did that guy in the manual chair not get his castors stuck I'm the cobbles? were the cobbles flat and close together? the cobbles in my city are horrific for manual chairs as they are the same distance apart as a castor
Ugh thats frustrating. That guy was ian, hes pretty hardcore in his chair and pushed for miles. I think he did back wheel balance where the cobbles were difficult.
Gem those Omeos look great but how much do they cost? I’m still in my rigid wheelchair which is great but unfortunately in the future I can see my needs changing 👨🏻🦽😀

Thanks so much. Thats interesting to know
TAKING THE EUROSTAR FROM LONDON TO PARIS TO WATCH THE PARALYMPICS NICE 👍👍👍🚄🚄🚄
The EU is so much better to the wheelchairers than much of the USA. Daisy is growing so fast, you will miss her when she gets married.
Ahhh db is my world. 🌎
I have just seen you answer my question, thank you
That omeo's looks amazing, looks expensive too😁
🤭🤭

Best experience ever as a chair user!❤
This is so cool to see. I’ll be taking that trip in July. Hope Paris isn’t too hot for me.
hope you have a great time 🙂
24:57 This reminds me of an album cover by...was it The Beatles?
i believe it was hehehe 🙂
Super reportage, très complet :)
Merci ☺️
Gem! Alcohol while you still have to drive? (Your batic) 😂
Hehehe. I don’t drink. 🤍
Fantastic thank you, I would love to try an omeo but I am scared I will love it and I know I cannot afford one as I am self funding
they are great for the right person and they are always looking at new ways of funding , so it could be worth just a chat 🙂
i love active hands, i have so much amazing products from them
Ahhh thats so good. I have some kitchen gadgets too. My favourite is the nimble thimble
Hey Gem loved the video, I was meant to go to the Paralympics but unfortunately I had a health issue so couldn't go, but my mum sister we to the Olympics and got me a Paralympics mascot to clip to my wheelchair bag.
Ahhh sorry you didn’t make it. I was on a quest to find a Paralympics pin, to put on the back of my chair, which I finally found ☺️
@@Wheelsnoheels thats great yeah I love my thing for my bag I have had so many comment on it and thats cool as I then get to chat to other people.
What Paralympic venues did you visit? Did you visit Stade de France?
I sadly had an awful experience. Travelled in a chair with my partner and small children and I was separated from everyone and put in the guard carriage where they transport prisoners! I was traumatised by the whole experience and unable to use the toilet as I had no carer.
My god that sounds horrific!! Have you put in a complaint?

Wonderful video 😊
Ahh thank you
This looks great - but seventeen grand is a tad out of my budget!
They are on the pricy side. But in the uk they are available on access to work. 🙏🏼

i have some great tips in this video here's the link ruclips.net/video/T5iHtavVlgI/видео.htmlsi=ZatcQ6N_SOvniHVm .i hope this helps 🙂
Hi, what do you use to attach your phone to your chair please?
i want an Omeo so bad but its so expensive, especially being on benefits, and I don't have the space for a second powerchair and I cant give up my chair with the lifting and reclining seat
There are definatly pros and cons to all.
What a great trip! How long did it take to find a cafe in Paris that was accessible? So many curbs to the cafes.
Good question.....The photographer we were with was a local. He took us to a cafe round the corner like 100m. BUT it had steps to get in and toilet downstairs. So we sat out side, as went to the toilet at the Eiffel Tower.
Thank you for sharing :) What citytrip would you all recommend as an ambulatory wheelchair user? I'm from Belgium.
Thats a good question, Im hoping over the years I'll be able to answer that as I tick places off. Im not too sure, but ive heard that Barcelona is really good.
💜💜💜💜
Table tennis 🏓, is that what we in the States call ping pong?
Oooo I’m not sure, could be. 🤔
Pretty sure, but there might be nuanced differences.
Absolutely yes.
Here in Australia, it's routinely called by either of those names.
@@t4N9410oR thanks
🙂👍👍
