Conductor Paul!!
Good thing this is Metro-North. If he worked for Transit, he'd be written up for "unauthorized announcements".
Not necessarily (not noted in the interviews, he was an NYCT Conductor, Subdivision B, for 6 years)......while he never rhymed his announcements then, his announcements stood out, and not only didn't he get written up, he got 6 commendations, including 2 by Line Superintendents!!! So.......I cannot say your comment is correct!!!
@TrainMan2004 - I just retired last year. I did 30 years as a B-Division NYCT conductor. I know what I am talking about. Management does not like "freestyling". Sure, you might have the occssional Supt. that might put you up for commendation. But on a whole, this is frowned upon. They have the "Blue Book" which is a guideline to what they want you to say, and how they want you to say it. And then when they give you the weekly announcements for General Orders, it is stressed IN WRITING that they want you to make the announcements generally as written (which is sometimes impossible to do). So yes. In general, in NYCT, this gentleman's announcements classify as unauthorized.
Metro-North and the LIRR are totally different animals. It a lot more relaxed over there, as opposed to NYCT as far as management goes.
@smoothpants Bravo!!!! Congratulations on your career!!!! (Trying to understand relevance of one advertising or feeling the need to advertise their seniority!!!! Guess that's a rail systemwide MTA thing!!!!)
Again, he never had any issues for as long as he was in the TA. And as far as MNR or the LIRR, believe me they're every bit as tight if not tighter than the TA!!!! Having almost 30 years between MNR and NYCT myself, and knowing this guy just as long, I definitely know what I'm talking about as well. And I can drop management names from RTO who are known hardasses when he was in the TA and they gave him dap all the time!!!! Everyone has different accounts and different ways of doing and different experiences from doing, and no exceptions taken!!!!
Great story, BUT--they're still "punching tickets" on MetroNorth?l In 2024?
