- Today I get my E46 M3 back from HellBM, and it has a fully functioning 6 speed manual transmission. Was it worth it and how does it drive?

Thanks for Watching! - Авто/Мото
All the costs combined together and still cheaper than any S2000, what a win
Yep!
The smile on your face while you're shifting the manual says it all
Absolutely man can’t beat it
Next mod: a carbon intake. Or something similar to the CSL's intake, for that loud guttural intake sound.
That would be epic
4:03 Such a good edit, especially when the shot panned down at the end with the plane
Thanks haha yeah the plane shot was just a random thing I put on the end
The cinematography and overall quality of your content is getting better and better, it's a pleasure to watch and what a car!
Thanks man!
Loved the Gran Turismo like music montage :)
It is from gran turismo haha
Great camera work. Well done. I enjoy your BMW videos and comparisons.
Thanks man!
I think the cluster LEDs can be coded to work even still with a manual! It is worth some investigation. Cool video!
Yeah would have to look into that
Love the music and cinematography , one of your best videos and cars yet mate. Keep it up.
Thanks man!
Beautiful car, well teased out episodes! Enjoy this ultimate driving machine.
Thanks man!
Great enjoyable video, subscribed!
Thanks man!
Excellent choice.. no matter how fast the SMG/DSG shifts... can't beat a manual for pure driving experience.
Yeah man it’s so fun
Loving this series so far man, went from watching your cl9 content for my car and now I’m invested in every video 🤣
Haha great to hear!
Mad lad car is coming along nicely
Yeah man I’m super happy with it
I’m actually stuck between buying a Lexus ISF (2011+) or a SMG E46 M3. Right now I’m more likely to buy the F but to have both eventually is my dream!
Yeah I’d probably go for the F rather than a cheap SMG m3 but if you can find one really cheap and convert it to a manual I think you’ll love it
Great job, looks amazing too 🔥
Thanks man!
Excellente idea with your M3 and excellente video as always! We love the same type of cars. I enjoy watching your feedback. (from the other side of the planet) ^^
Thanks man!
Wicked stuff mate, glad it has all turned out so well, so much car for really not a lot of money all things considered!
I'm pretty sure they retailed for around 140K new in NZ, if my memory is correct.
Going to be a fun machine for so many adventures.
Thanks man yeah I’m really enjoying it, and correct they were 153k new!
Did you get a quote for fixing the SMG as a comparison? Nice car, what a steal - must admit I got a bit jealous when I saw the local Wellington scenery ! Just who you know huh to pick up those deals
Yeah the previous owner did which is probably why she wanted to get out of it haha
This is so sick my man!🤤
Thanks man!
That conversion have been pretty fast!! Congrats. Just a comment about oil... Have been proven that the 10w60 is actually too much viscosity even for the m3 e46 and that is causing early wear in the engine, so in the next change I would recommend you to use a good 5w50 even although the manual recommend 10w60
Ooh yes thanks for that advice I’ll make sure of that next time
Wrong
Warm the engine, you don't want thin oil.unless you are a taxi
@@swebb302 rod bearing change every 100k km doesn't says the same lol
Racers use 10/60.Internet nerds rate thin shit.Thinner oil has a lower shear point,so if you want to push it,get the real stuff.
Loving the M3 content! Do you know if either the manual conversion or subframe reinforcement require an LVV cert?
Nah it’s actually listed as a 6 speed manual on carjam. All you’re changing is the actuation of the gearbox, not the gearbox itself
If you're keeping your E46 M3 for a long time, the manual is the better option. Especially if the vehicles stands for long periods of time.
Yeah for sure
_busted again🔥Honda🔥 jacket testing a BMW 😁..on the serious side M3 is looking sharp and congrats on the conversion 👏🏼_
Yeah all I have is Honda merch haha
Congratulations on the conversion! I think many autos by default get a lot of hate. I have a late model 97 Toyota Soarer with the 1JZ-VVTI making 250rwkw at the time. I had it previously shift-kitted with the auto, and found it held boost really nicely between gear changes. The only problem was my friends made fun of it for being auto.
I've now fitted a Getrag V160 6 speed from the Supra (a similar box to your M3's or so I'm lead to believe) and while it's more engaging and holds more power, I have no doubt the auto is quicker to shift.
Do you think you can code your shift/tacho lights back, post-conversion?
Thanks man and nice car! Potentially although I don’t know if those shift lights are specific to SMG ones
Lived in Wellington a few years, that little Makara - Karori road is a good one 😂
Yes good road
Another banger
Thanks man!
Wish I could covert my Mitsubishi 380 to a 6 speed, another fantastic combination.😅
Oh strong strong car
Now it's converted, flick it on and revert back to an ISF!
Hahah nooo this is much better
Awesome job!. Time for a valved exhaust?
You make me want to get an 46 BMW. My price range is a 330I or a 320 Auto etc wounder if there still good...
A 330ci will still be excellent
How do you compare driving this to the ISF?
Being that the ISF is faster although I imagine the M3 is more engaging?
ISF isn’t much faster I timed this from 0-100 in 4.8s, ISF was 4.7s. The M3 (especially coz its manual) is definitely a better drive. More rpm, sharper, lighter etc
Does it need a cert now with the conversion? Or can you get away with it since it's technically a 'manual box'?
Yeah I think you can get away with it - it shows as a manual on carjam already
Cl9 accord vs fn2 vs m3 handling, which one is most precise/stiffer/communicable?
Oh definitely the m3 there’s no comparison
Well done, I am sure you will love driving it. Curious on thoughts about the steering. I was reasonably happy with steering on my old 330ci.
These cars at this age often are in need of all new control arm bushes etc, when worn the steering can feel a bit mushy and lack road feel.. all these parts can do with replacement.
@@17t135i My old 330ci had Poly bushes and Ohlins suspension. That may explain things.
@@johnherbert5919 nice, ohlins road and track works nicely on the bmw platforms. Most of the oem parts are rooted by 100,000km compared to how they were new.
@@17t135i The Road and Track suspension was decent alright.
Yeah it handles well just the rack is really slow
Is this the same kind of technology the aventador uses but obviously just lower tech? So kind of like the aventador even though is objectively worse, feel and emotion wise you cant beat it kind of thing? Never really knew much about these SMG cars before DCT was invented and put into production so its a bit of a treat to learn about.
I know what you mean about cost, you go in for something they somewhat vaguely qoute x amount then it comes out being near 2x as much
Same technology as the Aventador, just a 6 speed rather than 7. Single clutch automated manual in essence.
And yes wasn’t cheap but worth doing!
Ownes a 1M F80 and now G80, with a 986 boxster S.
I still want an S54 engined car. Really jealous.
Would recommend!
How is the throttle response compared to the 130i?
Oh heaps better coz ITB’s
Brilliant video.
Just saying, If you change the wheels the car will look even better. 😉
Yeah a lot of people really don’t like the wheels aye
Are you going to keep it or flip it?
Not sure yet will see how well the content does
Nice car. I would have loved to polish that car ( I have been detailing cars for 15 years and can polish ) Also 4:08 my OCD is very triggered by the fact the BMW centre logo is not lined up correctly
Yeah I’ll get onto polishing it at a later stage coz it really needs it. Didn’t have time in this video.
And yes I wondered if someone would get triggered by that haha. Sorry!
I'm a simple man. I see a KCL upload, I like. Even if it is for a euro car lol
Haha thanks man
Can you do a review on a Honda Civic ferio RS ES3.
Absolutely not
@KiwiCarLife why not it's a rare honda and one you haven't reviewed
@@sensei_habibi8925 because they’re a 1.7 CVT it’s not worth it haha
@KiwiCarLife No the RS version is 5spd manual Vtec
@@sensei_habibi8925 still D17 though. All the ones in NZ are CVT so far as I can see
If it doesn’t rev high kiwi doesn’t want it lol
I do love a high revving engine
Car is fast but the steering cant keep up?
It’s just typical old car steering, gotta get used to it
love the bmw m3 howd u get it soo cheap bro
Thanks man, just know the right people
@@KiwiCarLife i wish i could get one
hey
when u wanna sell it
please make me a option
im very keen
and if maybe you have some other cars for sale please notify me im very keen

@@BEAMNGBROTHER what offer did you have in mind?
@@KiwiCarLife why dont i email you for privacy? it thats ok with you.
frsit bro
Well done
CSL intake ✅ but please don’t do an aftermarket exhaust, they sound horrendous ❌
Yes a few people have said to put an exhaust on, absolutely not these cars only suit induction noise
This is like a dirty movie...
HAHAH why?
@@KiwiCarLife The car, the music...the S54...
@@WarHammer1911A1 Oh yes good strong car
Excuse me?!?! $6650 for the gearbox conversion! AITA for expecting it be at least only half that?
It’s quite a lot of work and lots of parts required to do it
SMG = Super Mega Gimpy
lol
Isn't it therapy to wash your car, its not work.😅
Yeah I do enjoy it
There will be other problems you will encounter for sure for a performance car like this. A car like this is a money pit. Spending over 10k for a proper manual? You have too much money .
Every single M3 video you have commented something like this, yes it’s 10k to convert to manual, but now it only owes me 28k and is worth 45. With a broken SMG it’s probably barely worth 20. It might cost 10 to do but it’ll double the value.
there's no such thing as a cheap performance car, it just doesn't work that way, but the S54 is a solid engine and being a MT and N/A limits your liability somewhat..
It’s a no brainer to purchase this immaculate e46 m3. Hope you can keep it for a long period
Thanks man!
$10k!!! OUCH!!!!
Not cheap but worth it
