My Grandparents were farmers, pre war, and only had one son who was my father. He wasn’t interested in farming and became an accountant. This meant they had to eventually sell up as there was no one to leave the farm too. I was always interested in farming and used to work part time on one in my teens and early 20,s , but eventually followed another career. You are very lucky to have one son who loves the job.

hi richard. i ve got to say what a great video. I feel almost envious of you, you have Harry interested in the job you do. While i understand Jack s situation absolutely and well done to him and whatever he chooses to do because he will inevitablly do really well in his chosen career and enjoy a much less stress career than farming, i hope. I cann t help myself but to say how lucky you are that Harry enjoys farming and would like it as a career. From my own point of view, i think the best days of my life were working along side my father at home on our farm. I had 400 acres in shropshire and my neighbours were willing for me to farm there s as well. I could now be farming over 1000 acres, but, i have no sons and i couldn t get the backing required to do all this. when my father died in 2010 that was a wake up call for me and having just spent a fortune on a new milking parlour,(which wasn t a massive improvement on my old 1966 parlour), my mother and i decided to sell up, a hard decision for me but with my families best interests in mind i did just that. If i m honest i will always be disappointed about what happened but as i get older, i m the same age as you,the less it bothers me because i have a privalaged lifestyle, thanks mainly to my parents so i m very grateful to them even though neither of them are still with me.All i want to say is ,enjoy Harry s enthusiam and embrace it for the future, lucky lucky you!

none of my uncles lads went into direct farming, two are agri mechanics ,the other a painter, one a methodist priest and another a trucker with his own company . i would have happily done it, but sadly my grandad passed away early and a few years later sadly all three farms were sold off .

Even after an extreme wet fall , an extreme wet winter and now having an extreme wet spring(900liter/m2 in 6 month) and hardly any field work done , our facist flemish gouvernement (who only cares about big industry) has decied that there wil be no temporary exemption on the ban on muck spreading on sundays and hollidays or after sunset.

Your two boys are exactly the same as myself and my brother. I was always on the farm and tractor mad and still am at 49. I spent every spare minute with my dad on the farm. My brother went to uni and never came back. I ended up going into engineering as my dad told me the farm wouldn't support the two of us, and eventually, he had to sell it due to the financial pressures. He kept 5 acres where i now spend all of my spare time with my two children and granddaughter.

Can't beat a bit of well rotted, get it round here when the farm out back does the fields, all the "incomers" moan about the smell, simple answer is if you don't like the sounds and smells of the countryside, don't move to rural or semi rural location. Your boys will do you and Mrs C proud and i'm sure both will be successful in whatever they decide to do in life.
