He was signed as an artist and told to bring in friends to act like a band and only halfway through recording the first album did they even realise Brian could sing and adjust the remaining songs to fit Brian's voice explicitly. They considered Mortimer enough of an all rounder on his own to sign and promote before they knew Brian existed. Nobody disputes Brian has a great voice. Mortimer praises that even last week on TV despite Brian constantly attacking him from every perceivable angle
