    learn how to install a loc or line output converter.
    This is a car audio how to tutorial that will explain what a line output converter is and what a loc does. a loc is a device that converts your high level input from the factory audio system and provides a low level output so we can run rca's to our aftermarket amplifiers. in this video I use a 1 channel line output converter and tap into the factory sub wires to get signal for our sub amp.

    JP, buddy you are sooo top notch man. I'm a trained sound/studio engineer and been a backyard mechanic since 14 and tinkering with car audio off and on, since when subs first came out, 57 years old now. Things have changed since the days of radio and cassette players with 2 knobs lol. I stay current though doing installs today. When I need to double check something/reference something new, you are there! So just want to thank you Brother for your vids, the best!
    Lol have you lived through 8-track players to today's gear too? Nutz!

    I want to say...
    It is vastly comforting to notice someone call car speaker mid-range woofers. While generally and usually true, some speaker set ups include tweaters.
    I get annoyed when i am conversating someone over audio stuff, and i point at the speaker in the driver door, aa an example, and remark something about that woofer, only to be cut off by a response like, "thats jot my subwoofer, thats my speaker" like i am the ignorant one.
    Its happened more than i wish.
    So, yes, thank you for referring to them correctly!

    Thank you so much, dude. I got a Cadillac DTS 2009 and just got a kicker hi low converter with a remote wire and battery. My stereo RCA ports don't work so since my car has a factory sub and that does work, ill just unhook the factory sub and splice into that wires. The battery is under the back seat, so I don't have to run any wires into the car, which is super nice.

    • @ketchumthekid3880

      No you gonna need to run the remote wire to a power output that is only on when ignition turned such as the accessories fuse wire behind the fuse box or even the ignition fuse wire itself. The ideal wire would be the radio power wire from the fuse box. I would personally use the ground on the converter it stops the whistle from the speakers when you hit the gas but if it sounds fine than it’s not necessary

    • @jacobwilliams8203

    As most cars now a days have some form of factory amp this is much more complicated then this and you defiantly always use a full range line tap never ever use a factory sub wire tap.. the factory amp is already messing with the frequency’s usually both high and low.. meaning you’ll miss out on most of the reason you’re installing an aftermarket sub in a vehicle with a factory sub.. most factory subs drop out at around 50hrz.. if you tap into that wire you’ll never hit below 50hrz on the aftermarket one..

    • @chrisowens2699
      @chrisowens2699 Год назад +1

      So where would I tap into if not the speakers do I go from the head unit

    • @fishrrelaxing9361
      @fishrrelaxing9361 Год назад +6

      @@chrisowens2699 you missed what I said entirely.. I said to use a full range left and right output not the factory sub output.
      Ideally it’s best to bypass the amp output entirely so yes a head unit output would be preferred as most factory amps restrict all sorts of things and induce all sorts of issues..
      That said most anything made 2010 or later and some premium vehicles since as early as late 90’s the head unit does nothing more then supply a data signal to the amp which then performs most of the function of both head unit, sound processor and amp. There is no way around that other then replacing the head unit and running dedicate wires in which case you’d just use the sub output of the head unit anyways.
      But generally speaking you want to tap into the left rear and right rear channels together.. this gives you better capability if the amps crossovers wo interference from the factory system.. allows better sound staging through balance and fade controls etc..
      Most factory subs off factory amps are a center channel only so fading left right forwards or backwards to properly adjust the staging reduces output to the sub.. it only runs 100% at point 0.
      A handful kid the new systems like the harmons and the premium cue systems actually do well with the factory dsp settings for this..
      It’s never simple anymore and most cars require a lot of work to fix all the crap the factory messed up in poor design prior to altering the system.
      Do your research, look into cars with similar systems.. for example most boss systems of similar generation of automobiles are similar.. so say a 2007 Altima would he similar to say a 2007 Escalade of sorts.. mostly what changed is the location of the items and the wire colors although those mostly remain similar too..
      FYI 9/10 times the rear channels are green/ black and green white/green brown, or pink..
      But almost always are they a combination of green solids and strips which varies a lot from all the other wires in the vehicle with the exception of the rear reverse lights lol..
      Rear reverse lights should be 12-16g wire while speakers would be 16-18. Also if looking for a remote turn on you’re most commonly looking for a solid purple or pink wire usually in the same loom as the speaker wires..

      @@chrisowens2699 you could just use a lci1 same process as what’s shown in the video but the lc1i tries to restore the bass that is lost. That’s if you don’t want to tap into the factory wiring behind the head unit. Like amusing this guy said. You just need to tap into a clean signal. In a car with a premium sound system meaning it has an amp it’s usually the signal coming straight out the head unit and unit the amp. So you want to tap a left and right channel from the wires before they reach the amp that would be a clean signal. I dont know why that dude typed so much

    Hey man thanks for this video! So I have a 21 Lexus IS350 with a factory amp and head unit. I already upgraded all the speakers and upgraded the subwoofer which is placed in the factory location. The subwoofer is underpowered just a little bit. When I wire up the LOC I was going to twist the two positives and two negatives together and use a butt connector to attach to corresponding + and - on the pre-amp subwoofer wires then run remote to the amp and power to the amp from battery and ground to chassis. Do I then need to only connect the RCAs from the LOC to the amp to make the subwoofer be powered from the mono amp I am installing? Or do I need to also run speaker wire from the amp to something? And if so to where? All speakers are already upgraded and work fine with the factory amp, it's just the aftermarket subwoofer that doesnt get enough power from the factory amp. Thanks!

    I’m having trouble finding out how to connect my RCA connections from my amp to my 2015 dodge journey itself. Do I connect them to the radio? If so where? Or do I need some sort of converter? Please help

    Can I get the signal from one speaker or do I have to use both? Meaning if I’d pair the 2 + from the loc and the 2 - from the loc to the negative and a positive on one speaker it would be okay for a svc set up?

    Great video! I have a 2018 Silverado crew cab, what speakers should I tap off of? I bought an lc6i and I’ve heard that the front speakers get a full range signal vs the rears. What do you recommend?

    Is yellow wire positive? I’m assuming since there’s black and yellow and blue for remote in my LOC.
