      I love that so many people get so absolutely engrossed that they even forget that BTS is speaking a totally different language than their own even when they are reading subtitles for each and every word. That is when you can really see how entertaining these guys are.

      I mean maybe its because I am used to watching anime so I know things dont always translate but still it should still be obvious... Normally those people are the types to also put on auto generated subtitles in ENGLISH (even though they are speaking KOREAN) and think they are the actual subtitles smh

    I am also a very cynical person myself, so I understand what you mean when you ask how much of it is corporate. Let me just say this, I became a fan in 2015, since then and until now the most insincere I've seen BTS is when RM fake laughs at english interviews when the interviewer makes a very unfunny joke. BTS went on an extended vacation a couple weeks back, like their agency made an official announcement about it, and the first day of the break Jimin logged in on vlive (a live streaming service they use often) to talk to fans.
    When after years of watching literally all their content everything they say still remains consistent it makes you start to believe in them. The corporate influences are definetly there, BTS even openly adresses them. On one livestream Jin talk about how the agency didn't want him to dye his hair, so he treatened to diy it if they wouldn't allow it. The agency came around after that.
    It's the fact that BTS themselves have often and openly stated that fans don't see everything, that there are things they try to hide, the imperfect sides of themselves that they don't want to show the world. They've also talked about it in their music...

      Xdajana I just wanted to thank you for this comment. You're not the only one who said something like this, but I think you said it so well.
      I'm a baby ARMY, myself - this month will be one year - but part of what really sealed me into the fandom was exactly what you described. As I watched so much of their content, filmed over so many years, the consistency of character and thought really became apparent, and I really felt that I was seeing something authentic.
      This is of course their livelihood, and yes, their agency is a business, but as you said as well, they are open about what those realities mean. I know that we don't know or see everything (in fact, I certainly hope we don't) but I feel truly privileged to get to witness what they do share. There's something special about what the 7 of them have created together, and about the fact that they've invited all of us to be a part of it. I'm so thankful for each of them.
      Thank you again for your comment! 💜💜

      There is probably a push from the company to interact more with fans since they know its beneficial to them as a marketing tactic, thats why they invested in things like Weverse and Vapp. But it doesnt mean they're being fake, BTS also genuinely enjoy interacting with fans and I believe they really care. They had no obligation to read all those fan letters they were sent or hand wrap gifts for fans or write about us in their songs. If someone is lying and being fake you will begin to see evidence of it over time. I have been their fan since the start and never once felt that way.

    • @noxfior
      @noxfior 5 лет назад +47

      @@MidnightEkaki A push? nah, I wouldn't say they're pushed to interact. There were periods where there was radio silence from them (more so in 2017-beginning of 2018, and we know what may be the reason for that). Sometimes people like Yoongi and Jungkook disappear for a long while and then come out of nowhere and post something. Right now they're each on vacation and they're more active on social media than ever. All this shows that they interact with us when they feel like it and how they feel like, without BH pushing them. What BH gave them was the freedom to do so and their own spaces.

    • @MidnightEkaki
      @MidnightEkaki 5 лет назад +15

      @@noxfior I said "probably", since I can't know for sure, so maybe there is no push. The reason I say probably is because as someone who has worked in marketing I can see no way that Bighit doesnt see the benefits of using social media for their artist. If BTS suddenly stopped using social media it could mean a decline in fan activity which could lead to loss of profits for the company. Imagine if they invested in Weverse and BTS never bothered to use it. When I say push its probably just them saying "you should continue to interact regularly with fans" but BTS probably enjoy doing it and want to do it so there's no issue.

    BTS even said themselves that sometimes they put on the mask (besides Taehyung, the members said he is the same on and off camera ), and kinda made a point of saying that most humans put on some form of a mask based on the situation they are in. All f them explained how they are different from their stage persona. However I am not BTS and I do put on a mask, society requires it..and honestly basic survival in society requires it(can t say my boss to fuck off when he pisses me off, we have to play nice sometimes), but in a weird way the choice of a mask is kinda also representation of who you are as a person.

    • @msl1689
      @msl1689 5 лет назад +54

      That's why I really like Taehyung. You can tell he's just being himself and very candid. I wish I could be like that too but I tell myself it's necessary to put on a mask to survive in this society. But then I see people like Tae and he's always so genuine with everyone he meets and has no trouble making friends everywhere he goes. Makes me wonder if that mask is really necessary.

    • @namjoonismine5865

      Becoming yourself is a difficult job to do dear. I've been putting on different masks for my first 32 years of life. Trying hard to impress various kinds of personalities out there.
      Then I found them. These boys, BTS changes me bit by bit. So much lighter now. I can always be myself everywhere I go. I'm not selfish, I just want to acknowledge things from my perspective also.

    • @potatocat2445
      @potatocat2445 5 лет назад +13

      Having masks is not something bad but it can be hard on oneself bc it's a weight no one sees but you can feel it at the end of the day when you are alone at home.

    • @ruthlessrays9761
      @ruthlessrays9761 5 лет назад +14

      But you got to take into the narrative what Suga said in burn the stage that "THEY ARE GENUINE WITH THEIR THOUGHTS" although they have to act a certain way because they influence people (logic: when u go to a job interview, u gotta act proper and sht but that's not a bad thing). Just watch Burn The Stage.

    • @msl1689
      @msl1689 5 лет назад +18

      @@ruthlessrays9761 Oh yeah I'm sure they're all genuine with their thoughts. Whatever persona they put up, it's all a part of them - Namjoon literally talks about this in his song Persona. But I still really admire people who don't feel the need to put up a facade or persona and can still come off likeable, like Tae. As Namjoon puts it, Tae is "untainted". Tae doesn't really think too deeply about how he comes across to other people or whether he needs to put up a facade to be more presentable to the public. He just seems so comfortable being himself and not at all self-conscious. That's a really rare trait and one I really wish I could have. Not that there's anything wrong with the rest of BTS having a persona - we all do, and that's what makes them so relatable when they openly talk about their different personas.

    Edit:

    Regarding their work ethic, Namjoon even talks about it in that movie documentary they recently showed (Bring The Soul) which showed clips of the inner workings of their recent Love Yourself world tour. Namjoon said that when they're tired after performing non-stop, he doesn't want to think that "there are only x many shows left" since each performance should not be treated less than the others. All of the members think of the people watching the concert as individuals and they often say that "this might be the only time they will be able to see us" and for the fans who have waited for them to visit for so long, they wanted to show the best stage they could. This also reflects on how whenever there's a "hiccup" or whenever someone is injured or falls ill during the concert, or even just whenever they feel that they didn't perform 100%, they feel bad about it (at times to the point of tears). The other members are there to comfort each other of course, but these thoughts show that they are professional not just because they want to be good, but also because to them, their stage and their videos (etc...) are the only ways they can give back to the people who have helped them grow from a small, unknown group often overlooked in korean music shows, to the hugely influential group they are today.
    I am in no way saying that they "have" to always be grateful to the fans and everything they do should be for their fans. But, it's heartwarming to see that their number 1 motivation is love, be it for their fans, or for each other, or in hopes that what they're doing can uplift someone who is going through something difficult.

Most day to day choices really have little significance but these three are key turning points in a person’s life. A manger at Big Hit was given RM’s phone number by a known rapper who so RM rapping in the underground scene when he was 15/16 and thought he was impressive. RM said his first life shaping choice was saying yes to audition when that manager called him seemingly out of the blue.
    ...while saying all this he made eye contact with Jungkook and said the second big moment was when Jungkook decided to join. Other members pretending jealously then asked him his next big choice/moment. And he quickly says “when you five joined!” Que BTS members mocking him for the next few minutes about having used all 3 choices by age of 25 and how he might die soon 😂😂😂 leave it BTS to ruin a serious talk

    Though there are downsides to being as dedicated to their work as they are. You saw how upset Jimin got bc he felt he messed up his performance. There are so many moments where the members have gotten upset bc they felt they did not give a good performance.

    Korean age vs international age... In Korea, a baby is considered one year old at birth. And everyone there is considered one year older on Jan 1. So Jungkook joined BTS when he was 15 years old (korean age), which means for us, he was 13 or 14.
    Crazy, I know. Most laws/rules/regulations use international age... But Korean age is used in social interactions.
    There are grammatical structures and honorifics that are used when speaking to a person who is older or younger than oneself. Also, there are social customs ... like greetings, drinking (younger people look away from older people when drinking), paying for a meal (older person pays). There are tons more. That's why it was amazing to everyone at first that Jin wasn't the leader, although he is the oldest. And why he doesn't emphasize his age much.

    I used to be cynical, too. But after delving into deeper materials abt them - the live vids they personally broadcast (individual, by pair, as a group) where they open up abt their feelings, their game series, behind the scenes vids, etc - I knew for sure they’re real. That’s why millions of us support them.

    Your analysis at the end was spot on! I think existing in that "no mans land" of neither pop or hip hop really did push them to work twice as hard in their own unique space since they weren't accepted in the early days. I also agree and think that's exactly why they've even broken out of the kpop category imo.

    This is a good video but really goes deeper into them and our fandom more which is a bit odd to see you reacting to but I guess you're already pretty in this now haha. Can't wait to watch :)
    Also its good you did a reaction video to BTS Nobodies to Legends beforehand because that video has now been claimed for copyright (your video probably wont be affected though)
    Edit: Nobodies to Legends video is back up!

    • @MidnightEkaki
      @MidnightEkaki 5 лет назад +1

      Ok I've watched the video now, I enjoyed it! I really like to see people reacting to this video because yeah their back story and chemistry together is really essential to their appeal. If you don't understand that then I think it'd be hard to understand them and their music. I really like what John said about the pop-hip hop conflict, its something that doesn't exist in America in the same way, so it might be hard thing to grasp for those unfamiliar with the music industry in Korea. I also like how you guys appreciated their musicality. Many pop artists and even hip hop artists don't produce their own music in the West (sometimes don't even write their own lyrics) so I think what they do is pretty great.
      Also I know in this day and age you have to be a little cynical about whats real and whats fake online. But speaking as someone who has been a fan from their start, you just have to trust me that they are pretty genuine. They haven't really changed all that much, besides the popularity, $$ and growth as people.

    Great reaction/conversation! It's pretty understandable to see cynicism about BTS's sincerity and the reason fans are devoted considering insanely popular western artists have a really different culture, but just like with reactors and youtubers, the more you see/watch, the easier it is to tell when someone is being genuine or faking shit for clout. There's always a stage persona there but the depth of their thinking and vulnerability becomes very apparent pretty quickly

    Hi guys, love the video. Great mix of levity and sincerity. You bought up a great question in regards to how much if their honesty is "real" and for the cameras. Their most recent album and ones to come seem to be adressing that. Map of the soul Persona. Their most recent festa group video expanded on that. How we all put on a mask/persona when we are with different people, in different situations etc. If that's false or just another side of yourself. I would really recommend delving into that. It's something they're exploring now that they've got so big.

    first of all thank you for the honest reaction! and I know what you mean by "is this their actual personality or just for the camera" question. but I believe, after watching them for almost 5 years, their personalities seem extremely genuine (but obviously im not saying that their entire personality is online lol) but from what other celebrities and staff say about them, they really do seem like decent guys. I don't t think they would have made it this far being fake tbh. that sounds very naïve and optimistic but no one will ever truly know but themselves I guess. RM has often spoken about his "persona" and his "true" self in a lot of his songs. another reason why I think they are this popular is because they started from nothing and, as a fan, watching them grow has made me more attached to them. nice reaction and hope for more to come!

    Greatest commentary on this video I've watched! Thx guys! Rlly appreciate that u talked abt BTS' artistry. The 3 main rappers (Suga, RM, J-Hope) have written/produced most of their discography since their debut in 2013 (c. 90%+ of their songs are credited to them as writers or producers), & EVERY member belongs to the Korea Music Copyright Association & have self-penned/produced their own solo work including each singer. Rapper Suga was initally only at the label as a writer/producer but later joined the band. RM, the most prolific lyricist in BTS said this: "In a time where the melody is important, as someone who wanted to be a poet/writer, the audible feel of the words & the beauty of the lyrics are way more important. So I hope u pay attention to the LYRICS as u listen to our albums." An industry report credited BTS achievement to their "personally expressive contents as the members are deeply involved in the album-making process & co-write & produce much of their output, unlike many other grps that sing songs handed down by their studios." Plus, cud u react to Jungkooks GCFs?! These are his self-edited vlogs, he learned to edit via RUclips frm two amazing Korean editors, he shouted them out but I forget their names!

    I have been waiting for this reaction ever since you started your BTS journey...! Shout out to Natalie again!! To hear you say you are "endeared" to them now compared to your first few reactions... That human connection is actually one of the main reasons why the fans love them so much. It's also the one aspect you can't explain to other people, they usually won't take you seriously if you try. It's also the reason why journalists and industry people who try to analyse their success usually don't get it. As many fans say: once you actually really understand why the fans love and respect BTS so much, you have become a fan yourself. By the way, I have become 'endeared' to you two through your BTS journey as well...

    I've just marathoned every single BTS reaction video on your channel.. 😂 I really do appreciate how much you put into conveying your thoughts and takes on the MVs/performances during or afterwards with the specific clips you're talking about showing onscreen.. It's very professional looking (for lack of a better word xD), but yeah, not a lot of reaction videos I've seen do that and get most of the 'assumptions' right and to the detail. You also seem to be understanding enough and are respectful of some boundaries or are ware that such materials are prone to misconceptions.. So yeah, because of that I've enjoyed watching your these reactions... And I've been watching them all the way through, because I think you guys raise some really good points after watching the video.. And it makes me happy that it seems like you're understanding them as much as we do as well, cause I know it's tough learning about new things, I'm not sure why but I get worried about that stuff.. 😂
    Oh and my favourite BTS thing has got to be their sincerity.. They're not afraid to show and express their weakness and limits, transforming them into strengths via lyrics and performance.. If they see something needs improving about their performances, or they're having trouble with singing lessons and composing, they will often say them via livestreams and Bangtan log videos.
    Bang Shihyuk PD (their company's CEO) even said to them before their debut that he wanted BTS to sing of their experiences or stories and thoughts, and to someday be able to produce and write they're own stuff themselves, and I believe that's partly why they try to be as transparent as they can, connecting to us fans via social media and thanking us just whenever they want or can. Like they're on break, and have been for about a month now, yet Jin has been replying to people's posts on the fan app 'weverse' pretty much every single day, and just now finished an 'Eat Jin' livestream where he just drank soda and answered our questions for about 25 minutes..little things like that 😅💜

    The school JK went to was a famous art school that a lot of idols go to so even though he was known, he went to school with other known people. Also important to note that when it says he came to them at 13/14, that means he moved into a one bedroom apartment to live with them at that age. They've lived together ever since.

Finally, someone knows who he his...the thing is, I really got to love BTS and now I'm a huge fan, but I'm originally (and forever will be) a LINKIN PARK fan and somehow I can see the strong connection between both groups...I feel like they are sort of the Ying and Yang, both with great messages and connecting with people all over the world with their music, combining different styles, and encouraging people to be kind to others. Plus, BTS fans are the Army and us LINKIN PARK fans are Soldiers...😉
    THANK YOU for recognizing Chester ❤️ and thank you for being open to listening to groups like BTS and being open to new kind of music 💜

    I was amazed at how quickly they grasped the vibe of BTS.. Its what happens when you watch videos made by true army who get BTS..
