Manny's character creation is perfection. Rio's as a character is the epitome of "less is more". He only moves or speaks out of necessity, which creates an aura of power and confidence.
He doesn't have to be overly aggressive because he knows and expects to be obeyed. He gives the character charm with his head tilt, subtle smirk and penetrating gaze. It is a magnetic performance every time and he steals every scene he is in. Completely understandable why they kept writing him more into the show. It's also understandable why some members of the cast got so jealous they had to bad mouth him.

Best gangster character in any show. Although it IS lighter and his character is really charming, he's also damn scary/intimidating. I didn't know who he was while I was watching it, but during every episode I'd say "that guy is one of the best actors I've ever seen". Perfect balance between charming and intimidating.

Man I started this show for Mae Whitman because I adore her and all of the girls do an amazing job but Manny really shines on good girls. he has this electric energy about him when he plays rio that makes it impossible to wait for his next scene. rio is always so smooth and calm and intimidating and just incredible in his scenes with christina/beth. they could have really had rio be just another antagonist/obstacle for the girls to get by but manny plays him in a way that draws you in and makes you want more of him on your screen. easily my favorite character, the show would lose some serious charm and style if they lose rio

Manny is very right about minorities in Hollywood - for example the guy who played Aladdin hasn't gotten a single audition since his role although it was so big but he is very niche and movies just don't cast minorities for mainstream roles when the role doesn't have to do with their ethnicity or race. So Manny is very realistic about that, shows his work ethic is very strong.
