    I think the Alien chapter is going for an adaptation of the franchise of the whole series. I can’t agree that it’s an adaptation of mostly on Aliens.

    • @BasementDweller_

      We still got the idea of home being violated. The Xenomorph tunnels are all over our familiar maps. Also Face Huggers can’t be used in any balanced way unless you make them unfaithful to the source material. Not even the technology from Alien was advanced enough to safely remove the face hugger. Also I like the DBD original spin off the map. The ship crashed landed and were on an Alien planet. It makes for a cool continuation of the first film.

      @@BasementDweller_ I think you the face huggers could be adapted if they were treated like reverse bear traps / pyramid head’s torment; make it so survivors have to treat themselves to prevent the chestburster from putting them in the dying state and if the survivor has a chest burster in them on death hook then we get a cool animation of them being chest bursted instead of morid

      i couldnt disagree more with pixelbush here. This ENTIRE CHAPTER catches the feeling that made the xenomorph so scary. Its a perfect predator. It doesnt run at you waiting for you to shoot it down, It isnt obeying anything other than PRIMAL INSTINCTS OF HUNTING. Its 8 feet tall. Its impossibly smart. It can and Will maul you apart. You cant hurt it or youll burn up. It hunts using the NOSTROMO'S SPECIFIC ENVIROMENTS (Which i find to be the chapter's coolest detail, This character plays SPECIFICALLY like the alien of ALIEN and ALIEN ISOLATION). And you cant Hide, Anywhere you go theres gonna be a tunnel on close proximity and not only can it know exactly your location with footsteps, But it may crawl out of one of them and ambush you at ANY. GIVEN. TIME. THE KILLER IS LITERALLY THE XENOMORPH FROM THE FIRST MOVIE ACCORDING TO LORE TOO. Everything from basic cosmetic bios to the art they published for the xenomorph on the official channel to the actual trailer. EEEEVERYTHING ABOUT THIS CHAPTER GETS THE FEAR OF THE ALIEN RIGHT. I think that the description of the xenomorph's body cosmetic shows this the best. "It moved quickly and silently through the ship.", This is it. Youre the nostromo's Crew. Youre the one being hunted in an enviroment that this being has lived all of its life on. That has hunted on. The Entity has done all it possibly can to make sure no matter where you are, The alien has home field advantage. This chapter is a THOUSAND TIMES more alien isolation than it is ALIENS, Let alone how much more Alien it is than ALIENS. i love it So much man.

    3:00 i personally prefer that the xenomorph is the one from the first film not just because its iconic and creates a conexion with the film and with ripley, also because this leaves an open window for maybe a tome where the xenomorph has a skin of the way it might look if was born in the entity realms making a new lore and desing for that concrete species.

    Something I thought about the chapter was how to incorporate the facehuggers. I think it would be perfect if when you were hooked it would use the facehuggers.
    (Hooks would be replaced with the nests where the Xenomorph kept the humans waiting to get impregnated from the Facehuggers)
    Hook Stage 1: The Ovonorph egg starts opening revealing a Facehugger about to come out of it.
    Hook Stage 2: The Facehugger latches itself on the survivor and the survivor tries to get it off. Missibg a skill check will make the Facehugger tighten its grip just like in the first movie. Ehen unhooked the Facehugger would die.
    Hook Stage 3: A Chestburster burts out of the survivors chest and then the Entity takes the survivor.
    I feel this would incorporate the Facehuggers in a meaningful and faithful way, while not making them OP or unfaithful being apart of the power.

    • @DownTrodded
      @DownTrodded Год назад +3

      This just feels cosmetic thus being in the grand scheme meaningless and a bunch of work that doesn’t need to be done.
      Ya I don’t think this is it I just think as important as they are they don’t belong in dbd at all.
      Expect maybe as a skin or part of a skin idk. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • @mattp994
    @mattp994 Год назад +6

    Facehuggers would never work as a part of the power. Survivors walking around with a Facehugger attached to them would be goofy as hell, and you can't have Survivors incapacitated for an extended period of time.
    Only way I could see Facehuggers being implemented is as an alternate hook mechanic, like Pyramid Heads cages.
    Stage 1: you're stuck in a cocoon with an egg slowly opening in front of you. The egg hatches and a facehugger flies at you when you go to...
    Stage 2: you're struggling to hold the facehugger away from your face, until it eventually latches on and...
    Stage 3: a chest burster errupts from your ribcage and you die.

    • @magnolt
      @magnolt Год назад +2

      either that or it'd be another pig/sadako mixed with trapper with stuff you have to do to remove the face huggers with would be very disingenuous to how lethal they are and how they are impossible to remove so there's really no good way for you to implement them since a face hugger latching on to you would just mean the survivor lying on the ground for a while getting up for a minute or two and dying right after to really be accurate the alternative hook would be the only way I'd feel with it maybe working it also would just look like the xenomorphs victory screen in mortal kombat x

    • @kaijuslayer3334
      @kaijuslayer3334 Год назад +1

      I wouldn’t be mad if they made the facehuggers purely a cosmetic reskin of the base hook mechanic even if it offered no real benefit. It would just be aesthetically fitting and I’d be fine with that.

    I'm so glad that we didn't get facehuggers as a xeno power; having a drone lay eggs would be wierd and Im glad that the Nostromo Alien has their own unique power, I think the idea of them crawling through tunnels underground similar to how they did in the vents of the first movie feels in line with it's character.

  • @darthvaderreviews6926
    @darthvaderreviews6926 Год назад +2

    I think your complaints are, to an extent, uncharitable? I don't think there's any reasonable way a Dead By Daylight killer can accurately replicate the themes of maternal body horror in Alien. It's a hard bar to clear for a singleplayer linear horror game, let alone a multiplayer PvP game sometimes starring Nicholas Cage.
    As someone who shares your love for the original film, I'm not really angry Aliens has diluted the ALIEN feel of this chapter. _(which, tbh, is mostly to do with the colour scheme)_ Like it or not, the tone established in Aliens comprises the _overwhelming_ majority of the IP. That being reflected in this chapter is IMO completely fine. This isn't an really an ALIEN chapter, it's just Alien. Much like how the Silent Hill chapter represented Silent Hill 1-3, instead of just being about Silent Hill 2.
    And while I always imagined Xeno using Facehuggers as part of the power, part of me is glad they just didn't do it. Unique death conditions for Killers have often proved very messy in implementation, and Xeno already has enough going on without facehuggers, even if it could've been nice as a Mori animation.
    Remaining critical is valuable, but I think your critique is more a problem _with the Alien IP_ and not with Dead By Daylight. The magic of the first Alien wasn't perfectly translated into any other piece of Alien media, and I don't think the burden should fall on DbD to be what resurrects it.

    I do wish facehuggers had made it in somewhere. Like you said they're a staple of the franchise, I guess the Xenomorph just has so much going on BHVR couldn't find a way to fit it all in without the Xenomorph becoming overcomplicated and/or overpowered

  • @darkpalm1242
    @darkpalm1242 Год назад

    My biggest gripes with the chapter are the runner mode and the flame turrets. The Xenomorph looks so scary and intimidating when he's walking on 2 legs, but unfortunately this mode is useless since you have no power and so you won't be in that mode for very long. Also the flame turrets are unnecessary and make the killer look weak.
    An easy way to fix this imo is to give the m2 ability to the Xenomorph while he's bipedal, but it has to charge its tail strike(remove runner mode) and just get rid of turrets. He can still have the tunnels for traversal and tracking. This would buff him but I don't think it would make him unfair plus he would be a lot scarier and menacing.

    I personally think the exclusion of facehungers was purposeful and the right call as although they're iconic and represent the series horror aspect like you said, it's sorta hard to mske them 'fun'. As if survivors get one on them, it's pretty much just instant death and you cant do anything about it. That's not really fun to go against, especially for something like soloqueue. Theming is only as good as the gameplay it setdresses for.

    I see it more as a similar case to Silent Hill's chapter, which uses a map from the first game, a killer from the second one, and a survivor from the third game, making it more of a chapter involving the whole series instead of just a single entry
    While the chapter overall has a lot of tonal dissonances with the first movie, i genuinely think that making it cover the overall tone of the series is a better decision, specially when trying to see licensed dlc's as homages of an specific horror franchise as a whole.

    So, from your perspective, how could they have implemented facehuggers in the scenario they started with? The Entity only took Ripley and the one Xenomorph- There were no ovomorphs on the ship. I choose to stick with the more pure and earlier Xeno lore in that only a mature queen can lay or birth ovomorphs. I know the Juggernaut can be seen in the distance, but it seems to be just an illusory trick the Entity likes to do outside of the trials' walls.

    Gotta say I’m a bit disappointed by this video, I really don’t get why you have to be so negative all the time not just about this chapter. You say it’s a good adaptation of Aliens, but a bad adaptation of Alien, so the adaptation overall fails, but that seems so defeatist to me. Like you wanted your cake and eat it too, you got a good adaptation of the alien series but because it didn’t 100% match up with your expectations it’s another fail in your book that “isn’t for you”. You end the video saying that if you get Predator then you would consider it a win, but you said the same thing about Alien, so what if they don’t live up to your ever increasing expectations there as well.
    Just a disappointing video overall man, makes me really sad that this seems to be the way your content has evolved into. Because this is really just every video now. It’s genuinely hard to continue to watch videos from a man who clearly doesn’t like the games talking about anymore. You don’t like the lore anymore, you don’t like the killers they’re producing, and even when you get your dream license you’re disappointed. What do you honestly want

    You're selling it short by saying it's based on the second movie. It's based on the quadrilogy, sure the Alien is from the first movie (it's obsessed with Ripley after all), but the gameplay is designed with all 4 movies in mind.
    I fully disagree with you about the eggs, i was worried they would force the face huggers into the chapter. I do agree about the map though, but I wish we'd just gotten the full ship as an indoor map.
    The face huggers are terrifying, for sure, but it's not a queen. THERE IS ONLY ONE FACE HUGGER IN THE FIRST MOVIE!!! Add to that what the effect should be, it's just another condemn effect. A chestburster is obviously a mori, so they would have to figure out how to balance the character with STUNNING TRAPS and A CONDEMN MORI, just by including face huggers. I honestly have NO IDEA how they could have included the face hugger.
    As an adaption of an Alien drone, in isolation, it's perfect. It's not a queen, it's a warrior. Just that distinction is enough justification to NOT include facehuggers. It's the Alien's personal powers, not the races or hives.
    They even included the ONLY face hugger in the first movie as an Easter egg, even though it should be dead by the time the android is beheaded.
    The Nostromo not being an indoor map is such a huge lost opportunity. It's a ship ffs, it's perfect for a Gideon style indoor map. The fact that they crashed the ship after it exploded is annoying, lore wise it would have been way cooler if the entity grabbed the whole ship right before Ripley escaped in the shuttle.
    Good video, I get where you're coming from. I just think your take on the face hugger is too short sighted, it ignores the how and the why of implementation. I do agree with you about the map though, it's like they tried to combine the nostromo and the crash sight from the prison planet and i'm not a fan

    I don't disagree with you, but with how long I've played the game now I've started to value lore a little less and gameplay more, and even though I much prefer alien to aliens, this is probably the best case scenario gameplay wise when bringing in a xenomorph powerset.

    I respect your opinion, but I do sort of have 2 counterpoints for some of the elements you have addressed:
    1: I just realised that the flame turrets are actually a combination of the movement detector and the flame thrower used in the first movie.
    2: The tunnels, although heavily compromised to accommodate every map, does still visually retain the elements of the cocoon scene.
    However, some things like the lack of violation and the inaccurate (yet personally still awesome) map, I completely agree on. I feel fairly 50/50 on this excellent chapter's accuracy of the first movie.
    10 days late to the party, but I still appreciate your honest opinion. Thank you.

    As someone who's been a huge Alien fan for most of their life, I think Facehuggers would be impossible to make both balanced and true to the source material, without only putting them in the mori, which would be considered a "hollow" usage of Facehuggers. In my personal opinion, excluding them from the gameplay of this killer was the right decision, and this is coming from a guy who kept a Facehugger plushie hanging above his bed as a kid. I was going to mention that if I recall correctly the description of that skin summed up to “demo dog here long enough to adapt” which in the context of alien still kind of works. Hell being technical (feel free to correct me I’m no expert) the Xenomorph we got could get a whole host of skins from different ranks like warrior and queen. Obviously downsized though because even if it’s crawling a 14ft tall queen would not be as stealthy nor fit in the tunnels. So the idea of a entity xeno makes sense one that’s adapted to the world of fog maybe having the organic tubes on its back produce fog to try and hide it or other little details like that to show such a thing. We do know we’re getting a skin on release according to dbd leaks it could be something like this however a better bet would be a xeno we’ve seen on the big screen like the one that got hit in the head with a net in one of the AvPs I think called grid. But we still can hope for the day our Xeno becomes a little more spidery.

    The thing is, I feel like the Nostromo feeling "wrong" in DBD fits perfectly. Your arguments for it feeling off ARE valid, and I agree with them, however I would like to say it makes *sense* for DBD. This is because it should be remembered this *isn't* familiar territory for Ripley OR the Xenomorph. Not entirely anyway. This is the Entity's Realm, where familiar settings become twisted and distorted JUST enough to where those who know the places will find that sense of familiarity, but also uneasy-ness and discomfort. In my opinion it's just that that makes this. Seeing what the Entity was able to mimic in it's creation, but also what it failed to do. What the Entity was able to create and make happen on maps is one of my favourite parts of the map designs in DBD, and it's kinda why I dislike maps that are TOO faithful (R.P.D. being one for example.). I like what they've done here, having the Nostromo crashland on what feels like the Alien homeworld but not *quite*.

      I'd argue that Freddy's case is very different; 'violation' being a central theme of Alien is vague enough to incorporate into the game in a variety of ways, whereas there isn't exactly a way to portray Freddy as a child predator without him... predating children (who don't exist in the Entity's realm as far as we know). I do agree that some themes are uncomfortable in a distinctly un-horror way, but the aspect of unreality introduced by Alien being a fictional creature in a sci-fi setting, as opposed to any number of slasher villains who *could* be real people in a real setting, makes it totally possible to introduce facehuggers into DBD without it feeling too uncomfortable.

    You are wrong about themes of violation. They were never really prevalent in the first Alien movie, they were there, but they weren't in the main focus. The horror from facehugger and chestburster stemmed not from the idea of being violated like that, but from the unknown that protagonists dealt with. It was going like a silver lining throughout the whole movie from the very first we hear or see of the alien ship and eggs in it.
    The themes of violation emerged from the background only when you already knew what you are seeing which was later on exploited countless times in the following movies, but was never put in the spotlight in the first movie on the first watch because the main emphasis was on the fear of unknown, fear of something completely alien to human and anything known to them.
    You had no idea what these Alien eggs were and even though you, as a viewer, KNEW that that's where the Alien comes from, you couldn't possibly suspect what would happen next. If you weren't spoiled, you would suspect that Kane simply takes one of the eggs on board of the ship where it hatches. Then, you see one of it open and you think that Kane would take the Alien while its newborn and still weak on board of the ship and it looks perfectly reasonable plot progression, because you know Kane is protected by the suit and right now nothing is threatening him. Until you get jumpscared by the facehugger which attacks Kane and, as it turns out, melts through the helmet.
    Then, you're seeing this obviously hostile Alien and figure out the movie would be about this spider-like creature. It's horrifying, repulsive, it looks like stuff directly out of nightmares, something eerily familiar, yet completely Alien. You, as a first time viewer, know that Kane is dead and soon this creature would attack others. The movie keeps creating tension by showing creatures abilities which only progress your fear of the unknown because all your predictions fall apart. Is it trying to kill Kane? No, because it supplies him with oxygen, but why? In the hindsight, you know the reason, but first time you are just clueless and that makes you scared. You don't know. You have zero idea what is going on, just like the characters.
    Then, facehugger detaches and you get simultaneously relieved and scared. You were right all along, it IS the alien and it will attack the crewmembers after it dealt with Kane, but now you anticipate the attack and it quickly happens. Only for you to discover that spider-thing is dead already. All your predictions are yet again shattered and Kane's awakening only further confuses you. You know something is not right, something is very wrong but you don't know what. He seems mostly fine and then the crescendo of the horror strikes.
    Kane dies suddenly and dies a horrible death and even the way it's orchestrated is supposed to highlight the fear of the unknown because for the first dozen of seconds we don't see blood or anything. We just see seizures and him screaming in pain which just distresses us and makes us wonder what is going on. AND THEN the blood comes, everything freezes for a moment just to let that sink in and the horror begins its crescendo because that's what the build up was leading to. All your fears of the unknown are finally materialized by this scene of violent birth and it would never be as scary without that fear of the unknown before it.
    Alien's horror of violation is important part of it, but it was never truly the main part of the first movie or the facehugger/chestburster part of the Alien. It is a background that doesn't get too old because it can't be spoiled. Knowing what is going to happen only enhances the horror and it is very obvious by the way facehuggers / chestbursters are shown in all further products of the Alien franchise. They had only one shot with the fear of the unknown aspect in the first movie and they nailed it.
    Then, fear of the unknown emerged in the way Alien could've been everywhere as it was moving in the vents. It could also be interpreted as a fear of "violation", but I personally think Nostromo stopped feeling like a safe space long before Alien emerged. It is still present, but in the background. It's a looming and subtle feeling that is overshadowed by a different fear produced by knowledge the creature could be anywhere.
    Alien's fear of violation, fear of biological violation was put in the spotlight and heavily exploited in the following movies to the point of it getting almost fetishized, pinnacling in AvP Requiem (I won't describe that, thank you, it wasn't scary, it was shocking and gross). It was a unique kind of horror, but it could only be used a limited amount of times before it became less scary and more shocking and disgusting. You can really see the switch in the focus of what kind of horror directors wanted to show by watching the ways facehuggers and chestbursters were shown in the following movies compared to the first one. The first one focused on the "alien" and "unexpected" side of the facehugger and chestburster. Following ones focused on the biological details and gore, trying to show us as much unnecessary details in the most intimate angles as only allowed.
    In some way, you can see that change in dynamics with the monster's name change. Alien to Xenomorph. From a general word describing something unknown and different to a biological term. Because the creature stopped being scary due to being unknown, it had to be made scary by showing off its horrifying biology. Which is why I personally don't understand why they called new killer The Xenomorph instead of The Alien, but I guess they don't find that name difference have as much significance as I do or they simply thought that the killer shouldn't have the same name as the chapter which doesn't contain just the killer.
    Fear of violation is extremely prevalent and highlighted in all following Alien movies, games, etc because writers couldn't possibly replicate the fear of the unknown. It isn't necessarily a bad thing, but since this chapter was focused mainly on the first movie, not focusing on the violation themes was certainly the best decision devs could've made. They kept xenomorph scary and unpredictable as much as they could without hurting the gameplay.
    They have confirmed facehuggers were discarded at early stages of development and the only way we did see them in the new chapter was an easter egg jumpscare and empty ovomorphs that sometimes spawn in the Alien's tunnels. It was a good decision both in gameplay and visuals&overall vibe of the chapter. Gameplay wise, that would've inevitably switched focus from Alien being a stealthy killer moving just somewhere near, but completely out of sight (which was perfectly translated into gameplay by addition of tunnels) to a propagating bug with another instakill power that is never meant to truly kill somebody because it would be designed to be a slowdown. As for visuals, I don't think it would take much for facehuggers / chestbursters to simply become annoying and lose all of their flavour to both killer and survivor. Alien's ability is perfectly immersive and replayable.
    I would really also like to emphasise that facehugger would have NEVER properly worked in the gameplay exactly because of their supposed inevitability. There's no really proper way to make it work and keep its main horror factor without becoming a second boring beartrap or Sadako's curse that, by design, is meant to be always avoidable. It is absolutely the best decision to keep facehuggers away from the gameplay.
    Overall, this chapter seems to be taking the best from both worlds. It takes the theme of stealthy insidious predator that lurks near you from the first film, it takes the visual themes from the second movie to complete the picture and it generally manages to perfectly capture the main feeling of what it is like to be locked with a xenomorph or the Alien and having to escape it.

    I think actually the fact that the map is a conjunction of Hadley's hope and Nostromo is a good thing. Lore implies that Entity recreates places of great tragedies, but in so doing it is not a replicator, but a sculptor and artist, making imperfect amalgamations of someone's memories, events and so on, making survivor within feel all the more as if they are in a fever dream. Ripley, or the version of Ripley that got pulled into the Fog (and we obviously have to assume there are multiverse versions of her, as we did assume with Haddie after the archives), never stood on LV-426's terrain, she only have seen it up to the point of her being brought into the Fog, through windows and computer screens, which is why the landscape is as it is (albeit, it lacks the winds, to my personal peril, but of course, it could not be done in a way that would not be obnoxius for most of the players and not affecting gameplay and performance of the game).
    Also, on themes of violation, I have to ponder, that the way map is constructed unfolds, quite well in my opinion, psychological demolition in which events of the Alien left Ripley, which is also a violation, albeit, not physical one. It is also supported by the beginning of the second movie, that the damage to her psyche was done, and in no small amount, with her waking at nights in screams of fear and agony, drenched in cold sweat, with only the most stinging imagery present in fractured pictures that her mind drew to her in her nightmares: barren landscape, the medbay where she first time ever came in direct contact with the creature and where the first act of violation concluded, the dining table where Kane and Ash met their demise, the spacesuits lockers which were the last layer that physically separated her from something that murdered her entire crew, the keycard, found on a body in a spacesuit, ambigious to who it might be, since only Kane, Lambert, Dallas and Ripley herself would qualify, the all-too-familiar password in terminal, and pristine room of the Mother with the only green line on the only still operational monitor, spelling eternal condemnation for Ripley to writhe in agony: "Crew is expendable."

      @@PixelBush It’s not a lie to say “I wish there was more influences with Alien rather than Aliens, but all in all is still a great chapter” or “I think the killer should’ve utilized facehuggers.” But you’re making it out that the faithfulness of the chapter is worse because it references more the second movie than the first
      I get it, you love the first movie, I do too. You want more references to that because of the impact that film had. But it’s not the end of the world just because the DLC has heavy influences of the second movie. In honesty it only strengthens the chapter since it has even more to work with.
      There’s no reason a licensed DbD chapter should limit itself from pulling from just one part of a franchise. Imagine if the Silent Hill chapter focused on just Silent Hill 2. No Midwich, no Cheryl. Sure it would still be a good chapter and would be very faithful to the source material but it wouldn’t have been as special as it was with what we got, pulling from all different facets of Silent Hill instead of just from 2.
      This is a video game, so it doesn’t always need to be 100% accurate to the IP it’s pulling from. So long as it doesn’t go Full Freddy™️ it’s fine. If it means a better DLC by deviating from source material, then by all means.

  • @ELPMCFlashFrame
    @ELPMCFlashFrame Год назад +3

    While I appreciate your takes, and I do agree with many aspects of your breakdown here, a lot of your arguments hinge on ignoring ALIEN and ALIENS director cuts, which have superseded the Theatrical versions of both films. While an argument can be made that ALIEN theatrical stands stronger than ALIEN D.C... the same cannot be said for ALIENS D.C. which addresses some aspects that you point out about ALIENS missing the "Violation" aspect, especially in regards to the face hugger as we get to see Newt's father's fate quite front and center as she sees him infected.
    You also seem to have forgotten[or simply ignored] that, while in the Entity's realm, the Entity will violate an existing location to it's own ends, meaning that while yes, the map does feel more like it SHOULD be ALIENS focused, and really should have been Hadley's Hope... given that our chapter jumps us off from the end of ALIEN lore wise, is it not correct to assume that part of the reason the crashed Nostromo map feels a bit off, a bit like an amalgamation of being both on LV-426's surface while also combining key aspects of the Nostromo, could have been drawn from Ripley's subconscious and recreated by the Entity in it's recreation of "home."
    Also the tunnel system drawing more from ALIENS only really holds water if you entirely ignore ALIEN director's cut and the ovimorph hive scene.
    Again, I FEEL you on the misses with this chapter not utilizing the face hugger as part of gameplay [hell... they could have even taken a page from Alien vs Predator 2010 for the Mori and had the Xeno position the survivor being mori'd for a face hugging like the stealth kills for the xeno in that game] And the feeling of the map being more reminiscent of Hadley's than the Nostromo... but again, I feel a lot of that can be rectified by remembering that the Entity corrupts every location it pulls into it's realm [just look at Haddonfield, or Springwood, or hell even back at Hawkins lab.] because it's recreating these locations from bits and pieces from the survivor's and killers subconscious memories of these locations and twisting it in it's own way.
    Now, ignoring all that, I do feel that BHVR tried to walk a bit of a line to bring this chapter to people in a way that would draw in franchise fans no matter which film you enjoy in the franchise, and that's why we get a bit of an amalgamation of the first three films, the grater emphasis on the hive tunnels as you said DOES feel more ALIENS than ALIEN, but again did exist in both films if you utilize the directors cuts, the runner mode very much feels like ALIEN3 or even ALIENS to some degree more than ALIEN, but I do feel that the overwhelming dread the tunnel system brings to playing the Xeno is more in line with the horror found in ALIEN... that feeling, especially in a cramped map, of always watching over your shoulder because the Perfect Organism could pop out and take you at any time...
    Is it a perfect adaptation of ALIEN, or any of the franchise films to DbD? no... but is it a decent adaptation that tries to ride a line to appeal to many fans of the franchise to get them to maybe give DbD a go, yeah, I think it does, there's enough for fans to sink their teeth into without DbD ruining ALIEN, or ALIEN forcing it's identity on DbD... it get's across some of the more standard concepts, without really harming anything around it, and really, that's one of the best things we can ask for from a licensed chapter, it does the property relative justice while keeping the identity of "it's this... but inside the framework of DbD."
    Anyway keep up the great work, don't think I disliked this video or anything, you did great work, I just... really felt you overlooked this aspect in the discussion. Take care of yourself Pixel, and keep being awesome.

    I honestly don’t think that the face hugger/ chest burster mechanic would work that well in-game based on what I know, face huggers wrap completely around the victim’s face making them unable to see while it’s attached and they stay attached for while. The idea of a survivor running around perfectly doing gens and looping the killer while blind is more ridiculous than any flashlight blind on a killer without viable eyes could ever be. But let’s just say the face hugger attaches immediately plants the baby Xeno and then dies and detaches, I still don’t think this would work for a couple of reasons, one I don’t honestly believe a Xenomorph would attack a host of a chest burster because of the risk of damaging the baby inside and plus if it did then the host would possibly suffer from a lethal case of acid reflux. Aside from that a baby Xeno doesn’t work like Pig’s traps or Sadokos curse it’s not so easily removed without surgery. I personally think the face huggers would just be better as a mori

    I think adding a face hugger would be a bit too much, Xeno has an anti-loop and a map traversing ability, so i guess adding another thing would make it feel like he can do everything.
    Maybe, if dbd changed, Xeno can have his time to shine again, but overall, i give the chapter a solid 9/10, tbh, i don't mind the map that much, and i think any map would fit Alien very well, but i can see why they chose the Nostromo

Now the xenomorph is used to make you feel out of your element, like you stumbled into the killer's hunting ground, not like you are the violator of his home but as if you are so out of your element you have no way out of this.

In the first teasers it even showed rooms like it was going to be an indoor map. Really feels like they took the easy way out and decided to just play it safe crashing the ship for another outdoor map instead of going for something truly unique.
    Edit: another thing i see a lot of people want is facehuggers in the power. Personally i disagree though since we aren't playing as a queen xenomorph. If we did get a queen xenomorph THEN i wouldn't mind it in the power, but for a regular xenomorph like what we got, it just doesn't fit imo.

While it is a big part of the franchise, there is no way that it can be conceivably added faithfully without cheapening it or ruining gameplay. Either you have face huggers that paralyze a survivor and then give them an unavoidable death timer which is just unbalanced and unfun, or you do something unfaithful to the movie like letting them somehow remove the embryo. I'm just hoping that with the leaks about a queen skin for xeno, and the proposal about there being new mori's tied to skins that bhvr said, we can get a queen mori where she puts a face hugger on the survivors face and leaves them there with it for the rest of the trial.

    I think another way to look at this is explicitly from the view of the lore given for the Alien in the Fog, it seems to suggest the one in the first film was plucked from Space and the Nostromo crashed rather than get recovered and Ripley saved by Weiland-Utani, meaning the mindset of Ripley, the Alien itself, the map, all corelate to being a "prequel" or "alternate timeline" of the events in the films, meaning Ripley has already dealt with this thing before as she has in Aliens. As much as I would've loved the facehuggers and chest bursters to be the power set I think based on the time they plucked both characters from its very clear the idea was to homage the first film but use the elements from Aliens that would be more conducive to DBD's gameplay.
    I mean if you really think about it if the Alien had the facehuggers it would either be A. exactly like Victor from the Twins but worse if the facehugger doesn't sit around like him or B. exactly like the Pig's reveres bear traps that impregnate the survivor with a chest burster. While the tail attack is similar to Neme's tentacle, that's just it, it's similar. If you used the facehuggers you run the risk of copying someone's power set pretty closely which they have done with Billy and Bubba but since then they've tried to keep most of em pretty distinct.
