  • Hi! My name is Jim Parker and I'm a singer/songwriter, music producer. From 1983 to 1997 I worked as a writer, musical guest and puppeteer on the iconic, Canadian children's television show, MR. DRESSUP. In February 1993 I brought my video camera (picture a camera the size of a small suitcase) to CBC Studio 4 in Toronto and shot this "home" video of the making of an episode and a look behind the scenes. You'll see the set, Green Room where a rehearsal meeting was taking place, control room (in a trailer no less) and a puppet's eye view of Ernie Coombs (Mr. Dressup) doing his thing from behind the counter. If you enjoy it or have a question leave a comment below. Thanks for watching!

Thank you Mr. Parker for the home video of nostalgia, one of my favorite childhood television programs. My dad was a coal miner and his nick name was Mr. Dressup or Dress up for short. Dad had a lot of similarities to Mr. Coombs, heck we even had 2 chests in our basement...lol. God bless their souls... ❤❤❤

@@RobMcCallum99 You have no idea how much Mr. Dressup means to me as a person I was fortunate enough to see him in the 90s on CBC along with my favourite animated show of all time the Raccoons

That’s what I was hoping. Your Dad was a great guy. I really liked him. He and I had the odd drink together while we were waiting for the train after taping all day. All the best!

This is incredible to see! Thank you for sharing this. I watched Mr Dressup when I was young - before your time, I fear - but I remember seeing you when my mom used to tape the shows for my kids to watch (we had very little TV reception where we lived). You always radiated such joy when you played the guitar! And my kids loved all the puppets. Thank you! ❤

Thank you for posting. LOL at that old boob that works for the CBC asking you what is this for. You said for home video. There was no RUclips in 1993! Great to see behind the scenes of Mr Dressup. Seeing him be real and the funny at heart man that he was. He was a Grandfather to many people. I love the set. The show is great. I show what I can find on RUclips to my kids. Now My son and daughters watches Blippi who I think is great. Mr Dressup was the best show that ever came out of the CBC.

Hi. Yeah, we've been working on digitizing all five of Ernie's records. It's taken longer than I'd hoped but we're getting close now. Can't say for sure but hopefully by the end of June. There may be some kind of announcement, not sure. I'll try to remember to let you know. There's a Dressup FB page and an announcement will be on there for sure. Thanks for asking!
