Since doubling 100/200m @Major Meets, has literally never run sub 19.5s in the 200m Final; 9.83/19.52 @'23 Budapest WC, 9.83/19.53 @'24 US OLY Trials & 9.79/19.70* @'24 Paris OLY Covid Final. Would've needed to run well under 19.4s to beat a 19.46 Tebogo who was slapping his chest 10m from the line! Will be interesting to see if this pattern continues in '25!
Noah was simply no longer used to running the 200m, which is why, since he decided to focus on the 100/200, his times have been less impressive than in 2022. For example, in 2023, he never ran the first 100m of his 200m below 10.20, except once, but the wind was favorable at 1.7 during that race. In 2024, Noah ran the first 100m of his 200m in 10.17 and 10.18 during the Olympics and the trials. These times are still slower than his prime, which was between 10.07 and 10.15. We’ll see this year if he can get back to those times, and I think he’s more than capable, as he has never been faster than today. I’m excited to see the rematch between Tebogo and Lyles in the 200m.
He got slower in the 200m because he started focusing on 100m which he wasn’t doing prior to 2023. As for the lack of translation from the 60m to other events, you can just tell by watching him run the 60m that he runs it way differently than he does the 100m and 200m
The thing about the 200m final is that Noah was Noah's first 100m was 10.18 WITH covid, meaning it would've been faster without and his closing split was obviously where covid really affected him. Given his usual 200m close, he was on pace to run high 19.3, low 19.4. Even if you add his 9.26 close from 2023, which he ran in a headwind to 10.18 you still get 19.44. And I think Noah was definitely in better 200m shape in 2024 than in 2023. You can say what you want but I don't think Noah is any worse at the 200 meters now than before.

Based on racing history, health and overall consistency, I believe Lyles will get the win here against Jacobs. He has been getting better and better each year and improving in minor events like the 60m and 150m quite rapidly. Plus, he is very much a top race performer who can perform under pressure and deliver good results. He did declare in his recent livestream with Frederick Flips that he will not be competing at World Indoor Championships this year, so I'm intrigued to see how he races throughout the Indoor season.
No…he’s getting better. His 2021 thing was those shoes, which he lost and got slow after he lost them. BUT, he’s improving on his own with his form, and he’s looking really good to me, honestly. He just needs more strength, because his mechanics and overall execution is amazing, to me, and will be much better if/when he’s merely stronger.
Jacobs went from broken (or still recovering) to 9.85 in an Olympic final in 2024. If you take into account where he was coming from, he's had an outstanding season and trajectory. I don't know if he's going to keep improving this year but I wouldn't be shocked if he dipped below 9.8 again in 2025. As for the 60m, it very much depends on the strategy he's working on at the moment. Could very well do 6.5 or less as well as use them as a stepping stone for the summer season and not care too much about his performance right now
lyles wouldn't be the first because mo greene was in the top ten all time in 60, 100 and 200 at the time he ran his pb's in the late 90's. but in todays world, lyles would be the only one on each of the top 10

Crazy, but Jacobs and Lyles are almost identical in “style”. Jacobs gets out faster, but something about the two of these guys together, I believe they can improve one another tremendously if they were to train together, etc. You always bring up the right topics…great matchup!!!
Many people think Marcel Jackobs isn’t at his best and is far from it. They have a point, but in the Olympics final, Marcel beat everyone to the 30m or 40m mark. His start is still unbelievable and I think that with Lyles focusing on his start for 2025, (not the 200m as much) plus incredible top speed, this will be a race to watch and remember
The race will be very tight and I think Marcell Jacobs will be in great shape for season 25 because he has been training well without any major constraints/injuries. Prime Jacobs is and will always be better than Lyles and therefore I believe he has reached/is reaching his peak fitness and will beat Lyles in 60m at this race or the next (in world champs!)
