Great video K&G, as always! It would be great to see such snapshots of history from other years as well. A small correction for Hungary: the first christian king of Hungary was St. Stephen I (the first), not the second, for obvious reasons, crowned in the year 1000. One of the national holidays of Hungary the upcoming August 20 celebrations commemorate this event. Stephen still had "pagan" name, Vajk. The conversion of Hungary to Christianity was a bloody affair leading to brutal civil wars but it ultimately contributed to the preservation of the kingdom, unlike other steppe-warrior conquerors that didn't make this move, like the Huns or Avars.

      False.
Through mass intermarriages during six generations, the normans nobles were nothing more than french feudals with a very small amount of norse/dane ancestry (you may check William the conqueror ancestral lineage, he had indeed very few actual scandinavian ancestors)
The commonfolk in Normandy had even less "viking" ancestry than their leaders.
As for norman's culture in 1066, at this point in history, they had strictly nothing in common with danes or norses of the "vikings" age (language, religion, architecture, way of life, warfare, social organisation, everything in Normandy was radically different from Scandinavia but common with other french duchies/counties)
Fun fact : Harold Godwinson was far more "viking" than William, through his danish mother (William's mother was simply a local commoner).

And Pavao Šubić, in year 1300, was ban of Croatia and master of Bosna (ban Hrvatske i gospodar Bosne) with its own metall-coined money; he brought new dinasty of Anjou from Napoli (Naples, Napulj) to the Hungarian throne. Croatian Parliament and autonomy was untill the 1918. But, after king Aleksandar Karađorđević was killed in 1934, regent Pavle understood that he had to make an agreement with Croats (Sporazum Cvetković-Maček) in 1939 (banovina Hrvatska within Kingdom of Jugoslavija). 1066 really was the precipice of the modern world. Before it, Anglo Saxons still ruled England, half of Spain and Sicily were Muslim, the Romans were still one of the world’s great powers, and the Turks had not quite broken through.
After, England became England, Spain slowly became Spain, the Latin west established superiority over the orthodox east leading to the rise of Western Europe, the Romans’ terminal decline finally began, the Turks became a world power. A really, really fascinating time. Confusing, but extremely rewarding, to learn about.

I pressed the like button, but as soon as I saw the length of the video I thought it was too short for this huge topic. I believe this could have been a 2-part video. Not saying the video was bad, quite the contrary!

This video was awesome. Just a small little correct. Sunni is pronounced soon-ee, not sunny. Arabic translation to English is always weird

I'm never one to subscribe, like or comment but I did so this time because of how much I liked the video. I'm an eu4 fan but that's not what brings me here. I've enjoyed your content for years but this type of format is the best I've seen so far. Keep it up!

I pick early dates for achievements mainly like in CK2 some achievements have set start dates or 867 for example has an independent Zoroastrian ruler who is not a horde.

@@filipz8831 EU4 has other issues that make 1444 the start to choose, The later start dates aren't in a particularly good state given that they haven't been maintained and updated with all the DLC releases and that's before you get into how busted the game gets when you switch between dates before you've even started the game.

FilipZ A lot of People play 1066 this isn’t EU4 where the other starts are broken and never updated 1066 is the OG Ck2 Start And alongside 769 and 867 the most popular start in Ck2.
