- The car you see here is classified as a ‘Kei Ji Dosha’ translated as ‘light automobile’ or Kei Car in Japan. Meant originally as a class for affordable post war transportation, the size and engine capacity limits have grown to 3400mm length and 1480mm width. Engine capacity is capped at 660cc and 64PS. While most Kei cars in Japan are of the one box tall boy variety like Suzuki Spacia, Honda N-Box and Daihatsu Tanto, once in a while a car maker decides to make a pure sports car in this category. The last Honda Kei sports car was the ‘Beat’. A open Mid Engine rear drive with high revving MITREC NA engine as part of the “ABC” trio.
In 2015, the Beat found a new successor when Honda released the S660. Things are a little complicated here. The name plate makes it technically in the ‘S’ series with the S500-800 and S2000. But it’s the same Mid Engine rear drive this time with a more rigid targa top. The new S07A turbo 3 cylinder engine with VVT still is limited to the regulation 64PS from the factory.
Spoon sports saw a chance to tune the S660 into their idea of an ideal micro super car with this very demo development car that I had the privilege to take for a week and review. Many parts on this car such as the carbon fibre bonnet and engine hood are still prototypes as well as the upgraded turbo and intercooler. What is available for sale are the N1 exhaust, full coil over suspension, 4 pot brake caliper kit, frame reinforcement dampers, steering and under body and sub frame reinforcement plates. The engine is a complete balanced Spoon engine tuned to 95PS (120PS before but it had reliability issues ) combined with its 820kg weight and uprated F: 195/50R16 R: 225/50R16 RE71R tyres, acceleration as fast as a 1.8 litre engine. The light nose and sharp handling is evident on the tight corners of Hakone, making it almost unfair as it effortlessly darts into corners and sticks to the road in a way only formula car can do.

Bonus points for the 6 speed manual. More of this manufacturers!
Bonus points for Captain in having the greatest amount of pockets of any pants
The CVT is faster on track...
"It's not how much power you have, it's how you use it" - well said. Only real car enthusiasts will understand this 😎
Depends what you enjoy. I love cornering and shifting gears like a mad man, but I must admit that being shoved into your seat as you push the throttle is also quite satisfying.
Itasha RX7C at 4:35 xD
“goodness me this is fast” starting to sound a lot like Clarkson himself 🤣
Cap is our new Clarkson. And I love it.
straight up sounds like him ahaaha
"Goodness me this is fast"
Always enjoy the videos and happy to see how much you guys are growing and its well deserved.
I love his reaction to that tho 😂 kinda funny but it amaze me as well since a small car like that capable of doing something unexpected.
7:13 watch the guy in the background, red shirt
Looks some goon sack has been consumed :)
OMG finally some Kei car review, please do more! Btw when you pointed "here" for the other video, it failed :P
Yeah, Cappuccino and Beat would be great! :D
Thank you for showing us!! I really enjoy your knowledge, personality, and content. Imo, you are way more genuine than 3/4 of Automotive RUclipsrs out there.
This got to be my favorite youtube channel !! Thank you so much for the quality of your video !!!!
From Canada.
One Dislike is Probably mistake we Love you Cap!
your content makes me wanna open yt:)) loving your vids cap it's the best!!!
Excellent review, the rear of this car looks really menacing, Spoon really do know what they are doing. 👌🏼😎
I just love how you get carried away with the back stories!😂 mostly why i watch i would love to catch you somewhere for a mega car chat one day
The s660 looks like a modern version of a cappuccino. btw great video
Modern version of Honda beat actully
Suzuki capuchino is front engine rear wheel drive while Honda s660 is mid engine rear wheel drive just like it's dad the Honda beat
Olavo Fernandes yeah Ik that the cappuccino is fr, I’m just saying the looks not the performance or anything
@@jexter2395 no suzuki capuchino looks like a mini dodge srt viper gen 2 of that era or mazda eunos but very sexy in red just like a viper srt
The Honda s660 looks like mini new gen honda/acura nsx
Thank you for telling us all about the cool little car that we can't have. Look it - Like it, you can't touch this. "It for Japanese only".
I really want to import one of these to Ireland, absolutely in love with them!
Sublime and excellence ! A new jewel of power.
Love your style!
Great video and sweet little car! Can you please cover the Spoon FN2 Civic Type R for one of your next videos?
i love this channel
When you live in West-Europe where it's practically Tokyo city you really want a car like this and not some 4cyl+ massive unit. nowadays;
- parking spaces are getting smaller
- high emission cars are banned from cities
- bigger engine makes higher car registry taxes
- more crackdowns on speeding (radar, more police intervention and trajectory speed control)
- roads are purposely getting build narrower with more speed bumps integrated
- generally speed limits are getting slower
i usually drive an hour to get to the winding roads of Wallionia (between Luxembourgh and France) the roads there often have rally history to them
Western Europe is a failed society mate. Better get out of there while u can. The future there is pure dystopia.
@@shogunero3.6 wouldn't go that far since we still have the best healthcare worldwide. but regarding car ownership it sure does suck here
If only this thing saw an international release with a small four cylinder turbo and around 150hp.
Sweet! Was wondering if you would review this little beasty.
Pretty sure Spoon use the HKS GT100R turbo upgrade on this. Best part is you can smash it around b roads and still get 50mpg (UK) or 18km/litre.
Wait wouldn’t that make it 106 hp ?
Why wouldn’t they doa full tune
Please review your Honda Civic EK9 and Japonic's Nissan GT-R R35
He sold it
japonic sold his r35
660 looks fun I would love to take that driving on a mountain downhill.😁😁
These would literally be sold out for years in 🇺🇸 sorry Captain, can we get more of the assistant ?
Yes. Need more of that lovely assistant
You need to test all them cars on the track, its fun and and im pretty sure it is going to increase the number of views
Love these s660s. It's a shame Honda didn't bring a couple over to the west. They would've sold particularly well in slightly affluent "side-cities" in the south where industry thrives due to friendly tax incentives. I would save and buy one as my daily once I finish college.
Excellent work, JDM Masters. Your commitment to quality in these videos is impressive.
Well there is owner who owns daihatsu copen and suzuki capuchino where I live in Swindon UK
SPOON SPORTS ❣️❣️❣️
Can you do a DC5 spoon review? I’m thinking of doing a spoon refresh on mine...
4:35 that fc 🤤
4:35 white FC 😍
The RedSuns are in town.
Looks nice. But the price is high 😂 rare to find here in Malaysia too. I found only 6 (period)
You guys buy these cars are they imported in Malaysia?
@@ThexXxXxOLOxXxXx I don't know how it exactly reached to Malaysia but what I know is that the car is available for sale as recond or secondhand car in a random car dealer (not at official Honda dealer)
@@Raven-uu7lb I actually tested this car before, brought by an dealer and they said most of the S660 were brought into Malaysia by them. Price around RM110k by then. Really nice car.
@@_w205.ervinnn_ Owh 🤔 thanks for the info 👍🏻👍🏻
@@Raven-uu7lb I remember I tested this car at Jaya Wawasan dealer @ OKR AutoCity and they said the other few S660 in Sungai Besi Autocity were also imported by them, even though I'm not sure if it's true, but yeah good to see dealers importing these fun nice JDM cars into Malaysia for sure.
Oh man now I want one, thanks great review (y)
Dude Japan has the quirkiest adorable cars.
@@ThexXxXxOLOxXxXx Bro I want to emigrate to Japan just to own a JDM car
@@hamzadiouba Japan is an amazing place would love to travel there and rent amazing cars.
But id probably need an international licence.
@@ThexXxXxOLOxXxXx its not hard to get international licence you just need to pay extra money for it
Why would anyone downvote this guy is the the Captain
Hey, do you mind to upload pdf vrrsion from the spoon brochure? Its very eye candy for me.... thank you👍🏻👍🏻
We need this in the states 👍
this is like a tuned beat but better, I want both for fun cruising
I wonder how much faster this could go if we swap it with a CBR1000RR-R engine.
Capt. looks good with short hair!!!
I want to see the review of the red Honda Civic Sedan/FC that had been tuned by Spoon
Because the general spec, I think, is similar with one that comes to Indonesia
Do a review on honda nsx next or your ek9
I'd love to see a nasty N/A B 16 or K 20 built and swapped into this thing. It'd be a rocket. I'd keep it at 260 HP or under, that way reliability will always be on your side as well as insane acceleration and speed, lol.
I was waiting japanese language. Tks for speaking english 🥰
Beatiful
I knew you are at Hakone as soon as i saw the fog ^^
Hope japan would export more of those cute compact vehicles ( all variants !). Todays engines are more efficient than ever bevor, but why not make cars light as modern materials and technology could go - instead they are getting just heavier and in most cases even bigger....how is this eco-logical?
From this standpoint, the S660 is the direction how sportscars should have been developed in my opinion.
Look at the trees from 16:19 !!! It's quite windy there :D
weird statement there, manuals are actually quite efficient power wise...
better than any auto box. it will shift faster and better sure, but theres no making up the extra power you lose to friction.
in a car this low powered, you either have a manual or perhaps even a sequential (least loss)
if anyone knows of an auto or dual clutch set up thats somehow more efficient, dont tell anyone, only me ;).
wait a minute, how many "lovely assistants" do you have? you player lol
😒
Could u do a review and comparison with the GR Copen 🙏🏻
I love it....
Nice intro haha
spoon improvements and ideas are really good, reasonable and correct, body and chassis rigid and stiffness need a lot of work, that why evo feel nice and good, honestly Mitsubishi done good job in chassis stiffness, something wrong with 6 speed transmission not as good as old 5 speed, this will not satisfy some people mind set, all in the gear and engine in the end, my suspension made in Taiwan one side front other side made in Korea not even same, that why spoon parts price high not really kind of cheap made, it's all in the engine and the engine run the gear and gear to the tires and tires to the street, i have one box beside my bedroom with engine oil gear oil some seals rear and front brake pads not really original but made in japan pads, anything i get made in japan i purchased if i can get.
this in america would get a civic engine and be super fast lol just wait 25 years
I love JDM
Can you review seeker's / backyard special s660? Or even HKS?
Those Spoon parts are overkill for that beast of a car 😁
Shame that in my side of Europe is very hard to get one of those :/
Just import it from Japan. Any good importer can get one, but the question is if it is worth it economically. They are holding their value even in Japan.
@@seanm.collins9888 Portuguese laws make it very had to register a car that is outside the EU, maybe sometime i will get around that and source true jdm car
There's a Beat for sale locally Pedro
@@joaosilva7114 yes there is!!
Thanks
Hey JDM Masters!
Can you do an episode on the Mitsubishi GTO Twin Turbo 1996 - 199 and the Mitsubishi FTO Version R in Manual 1997 - 2000?
Thanks!
nice!
Would you mind doing a review on the suzuki alto works as a kei car?
Is Honda still planning on bringing the S660 as an S1000 (basically a 1.0L 3cyl in the S660) off shore?
i want a LHD version of this🥺
Again...still waiting for your ek9
hey master jdm, i was wondering if you have the smart roadster in japan, its a really similar car to this, and if so, can you make a comparison video it will be funa nd fair comparison in my opinion
Pls make a touge drive video with this s660
i want one so bad!
Cool
Nice haircut!
If this vehicle excited you, I would love to see you review a K-Sight.
You absolutely can use it to do the shopping, you just put the groceries in the passenger seat. That's the way we do it with the Lambo.
In the not so distant future, some shop (or someone) will swap in a 1.0L Vtec engine.
She had a older sibling in usa with a hyabusa motor. A couple of youtubes on her 600 honda with hyabusa.
Please do the nd Miata mx5!
I wonder where I
can find s Honda Jacket like that.
8:57 *profusely sweats in 182cm*
This might be the future of sport car. With all the ecological laws the car world suffer this might the future of course this thing didn't replace a S2000 and would never. We need this car in Europe
Spoon Type R FK8, please.
Wish there's a lefthand version haha
💯
Adam sanki bu yıllara ait değil Faruk abi nostalji bir havası var
i would swap the 1000cc 3cyl engine from the civic to that little car and make it a real weapon !
I wonder if its actually legal in Japan to increase the horsepower of a kei car from 64hp to 95hp. Do you have to register that kind of tuning into your registration papers of the car?
Its most likely not a Kei Car on paper anymore if the power exceeds 64hp
@@alouisschafer7212 Thats no answer of the question. I think nobody cares about the horsepower output of the car after the manufacturer homologates the car in Japan...
Where can i buy one of those Jackets?
Can anyone explain why kei cars have this limit on engine displacement and power? It seems that the thing that matters most is the size of the car, so why not let the manufacters sort out what kind of engine they can put inside the engine bay's tiny dimensions, right?
This class of cars are exclusive to Japanese Market but some of these are imported mostly UK due to their year and size of the car
i want this so muycgh
If only that came in the U.S.
I love cars like that
American like everything big lol
When it comes to Cars, USA is always cursed. Like they never get some of the very great stuffs outside their country.
If they sold the S660 in America I’d buy one. I fit in a Beat (1.7M/5’7”) and I could afford to buy one new.
Elyse definitely making some stiff chassis’s 👍🌊🔥💨💨💨🤣⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️👀
I wish they have LHD
Damn I want one but for how much they cost to import or already imported you can just buy so much more 'car'. I'd still love a little mid engined turbocharged tara top car though... If there was one at a dealer in my state with easy finance it'd be hard to resist making a terrible financial decision
This car big brother ı think crx and crz, now say some people coming soon honda crz typer 2021 320hp
The only thing i wonder is. why a review in the rain ??? 😲
Pretty much a modern-day, better Lotus Elan.
That is the 1997 Toyota mr2 sw20 gts that is the rival for the lotous elise
Damn is it raining out there or cloudy?
It is raining
summer is the rainy season in japan. no pushing the cars until fall when supposedly it rains less.
This is pretty much the same size as an EG6 and EF hatch Si.
I want to see a 2Jz swap
これこそ J D M
Why does it still use the yellow plates?
I’ve noticed Spoon CF engine hood on the back leaks rain through the engine bay. Most parts like air filter box, valve cover, and N1 exhaust are all wet.
Wasn't the NSX the last mid-engined Honda?
