    It's the end of the 1980s. Television is changing. Kids TV is now big business and entering the beginnings of a renaissance after decades of malaise. We look into the origins of Fox Kids, and it's not as cut and dry as many would have you believe...

    Special thanks to Sammi Brie and Jeff Harris for research help. Thanks to Lexi for giving me a FANTASTIC vector of the 1987 Fox logo to use in the original thumbnail. And finally, very special thanks to Pop Arena ( / poparena ) for providing the inspiration for this series. Please, check out his Nick Knacks series, it's fantastic!

    55:58 I would probably be a little more in the dark with the way WPIX acknowledges its history a bit more, and only went by “The CW 11” for about 2 years and has been PIX 11 again ever since

    I'm honestly in an incredible awe right now as I see people still talking about Fox Kids in 2022!
    Both that and Jetix are vital parts of my childhood since those "channels" (not sure what's the correct terminology would be here) lived a bit longer in European countries and also here in Russia.

    I'm mostly here for Goosebumps but since that's all the way in 1995 I'll watch the rest of this too lol, Fox Kids was before my time so this should be fun. Cool that most of the big stuff is preserved but sad some of it is still not as well known.

    This reminded me when WNEW would have Popeye at 2:15 in 1984! At 2:00 they would have news for 15 minutes. They were the best that year!

    What an interesting time in history. In my childhood, I got into the block during the later years when Digimon was the big thing.
    Looking forward to future episodes of this. :)

    Gotta say, I love how many of the examples of local programming (old & current) are from the Philadelphia area. It's super nostalgic, especially good ol Philly 57.

      I mean, that's where I'm from, so of course I'm biased. I love the shit out of Philly 57, it's probably my gold standard for exciting, fun television station presentation.

    Great job, but you underplayed X-Men a bit, it was an instant #1 hit (Fox Kids was in 4th place before X-Men) and was a shock to the industry. It jolted the rival networks to abruptly launch their own (doomed) action competitors. But X-Men hitting #1 in it's timeslot was huge for FK; yeah, B:TAS had already debuted on weekdays, but XMTAS revolutionized Saturday mornings

    Im sure ive mentioned this on Blusky or whatever but....
    its illegal how you don't have a bajillion subs. Everyone needs to stop playing around and waiting till you get to like Escalfone and Digimon and just watch the videos now!

    Using the novel 4th network, Fox Broadcasting Company arrived in 1987, but it wasn't long until a key war against a splinter group of federal communication commission employees that gave birth to Fox Kids later Fox Family Worldwide after purchasing International Family Entertainment and merging with Saban Entertainment which the first channel would later be succeeded sooner rather than later with Jetix and then after Disney bought Jetix Europe VN it was converted into Disney Extra Dimensional meanwhile Disney Toons premiered in 1998 until 2006 when the European versions of Disney Toons became Disney Cinemagic with 2 blocks 1 on Sky Italy and other on Disney Latin America until shutting down in different ways and being succeeded by different Disney channels from Movistar to being succeeded by Disney Plus Sky then Plus again and eventually Sky New Zealand Saint Television with Sky UK.

    For WNYW in NY, as far as court shows go, it was The People’s Court that would get its slot. Here, Judge Judy only ever moved between (W)CBS and (W)NBC

    • @HulkieD
      @HulkieD  Год назад

      Yeah - it wasn't a one size fits all replacement. (Judy was already the lead-out on Fox 29 Philly, and was simply moved to the 4pm hour when FK left the building.) I think Karn Family Feud moved over from then-co owned WWOR.

    Great job, just a quick side note, the Ch. 39 in question was WDZL-TV (now WSFL-TV)
