I'll never forget the sight of a 90-something year-old-man moving from a pool of REALLY REALLY HOT water to another one of cold water like he was just changing his shirt. And all the children know how to fish and climb and build stuff and are emancipated, really.
I do not live in Iceland at this point, but have lived there for 16 years and keep on coming as soon as I manage. I am in Iceland right now and it is a happy moment. Lerarning the language was pretty tough, as it is a pure Germanic laanguage with no Latin vocabulary and tons of flexions and grammar. On the other hand, as anywhere in the world, if you keep eyes and ears open and appreciate any lessons the native give you you will manage pretty well.

Icelandic and Dutch share some words and even without knowing ICelandic, DUtch people should be able to recognize SOME stuff in the Icelandic language. I'm bilingual and was raised both english and dutch. I speak German and a bit of French :)

It also depends on what you native language is (is it Duch?), how remote it is from Icelandic, how many other languages you speak and what language skills oyu have up yr sleeve..
Did you live there? Do you speak the language? I am very interested in learning the language and looking for possibilities to combine my study with a stay in Iceland. Could you maybe give me an indication on how hard it was for you to learn the language and how long it took you? Thanks a lot!
