If you have any questions, check here first.
✏Where can I get the update files for PS4?
    www.playstation.com/en-us/support/hardware/ps4/system-software/
    ✏What SSD did you use?
www.sandisk.com/home/ssd/ssd-plus We used the 1TB variant
✏What is the spec of the SSD?
SATA 3.0; sequential read up to 535 MB/s; sequential write up to 450 MB/s
✏Did you see a big improvement?
There will be a follow up video where performance is covered. Subscribe to be updated on when its posted.
✏Will this work on (other version of PS4)?
We have yet to do so, but according to our sources, this process should work the same on all versions of the Playstation 4
✏The PS4 uses SATA II . . . or is it SATA III
What we know on the subject . . . ruclips.net/video/bp5oMOboMzI/видео.html
✏Is there an SSD size limit?
Yes. Though we haven't tested it, some sources suggest the internal limit is 8TB. For external, the PS4 user guide officially states up to 8TB.
    ✏Can I use a (name brand) drive?
As far as we understand, any SATA SSD that is within known size limits should work.
✏What if I put something other than the PS files on the drive (Windows OS, random files, blank etc.)?
Probably nothing? Let us know if you try and we'll do the same.
    ✏(External/Internal) is better because (X)
A valid argument can be made for both methods. It's really a matter of preference.
Of course, if you have a question not listed above, we will still do our best to answer them.

Well this video shows him going for the smaller 480MB update file and not the full system restore update which is 1GB. It's odd that he goes for that when it doesn't work. The one that worked for me is the full one at 1GB, but it makes sense that you'd need that on a new drive. So why does it show him going and getting the smaller one? Just weird.

I just set 2nd SSD as external storage and copied 1.2TB to it.. after a few swaps, ALL my PS4 1TB and 512GB USB were on the 2nd SSD.. Fitted a Samsung 3.84TB into PS4 Pro but HAD to use the FULL version of Firmware - Update version would NOT work. 10.01.
Drive up and running so 2nd SSD copied everything back over. just had to pop onto PSN to restore licences but it saved downloading over 1TB again..

It's worth doing.. Speed loading games/apps is much faster.. The only games that don't really benefit are the online RPG's that need a network connection.. You load up fast but have to wait for the slowest connection to load theirs in.. Single player like Witcher 3, Dragon's Dogma, Skyrim, etc load faster and look better as textures are the proper ones and NOT the preview like with a stock HDD..

I know this video is irrelevant now, since ps4 is old .. but if by the off chance you are looking to upgrade your ps4's ssd, do not follow this guy and put in a DRAM-less SSD inside your ps4.. DRAM less SATA ssds are fine for storage, but they are terrible for running an OS... even though in THEORY they should still beat out a hard drive, in the real world tests this is NOT the case. On PS4 for some reason these drives cause random issues in certain games, (example stuttering in spiderman), it really doesn't matter which one (sandisk ssd plus, crucial bx500, wd green, patriot p210, kingston a400, silicon power a58, team group Vulcan/whatever....etc),
they all will exhibit these random stuttering and texture issues for certain games... However the good news is that you can use the drives externally on PS4 and on PS5, (through an exclosure ot sata to usb adapter), and because it doesn't need to run the OS or record gameplay in the background, the issues not appear. But on ps4/pro for the fastest possible load times you would still want to install a dram sata ssd (samsung evo, crucial mx, wd blue, sandisk ultra... etc) internally inside the console.

I am using this . SSD is fast AF . But after 1 year, the SSD started to lag and is causing fps stutter ingame ( not all games ) . The loading times are still the best , but since PS4 games are not optimized for SSD , there are games that makes your fps stutter.
Try to never rebuild database using an SSD because that means defragmentation , and ssd does NOT need that .

We did a follow up on that you con find here ruclips.net/video/mQreJAOR_2U/видео.html
But basically, if you're just wanting faster load times in games, external USB works fine and internal installation shows no appreciable improvement.

There may be a way. But if there is, we don't know about it. Will follow up on it if we find something out.
