This is in my top three favorite bourbons for the price, availability and nose/taste. I actually find the taste very good, like vanilla and strawberries. Very easy drinker, I’m not disappointed with the “thinness” at all. Great video.
It is a solid pour for a solid price. I think there are probably some better whiskeys in that price range though. Check out my distillery was series. I do a side by side of several whiskeys under $30. Good times!
I toured the 1792 distillery in Bardstown in July of 2019. At the end of the tour we went to their tasting room and during the tasting they said that the small batch was designed for the taste to build on itself with each subsequent taste.
Funny how different people's palates are. This guy didn't like it, The Bourbon Junkies said it was the best $30 bourbon out there, and Mash and Drum was mixed, he said if you like rye spiciness then you would love it.
I love the product! I have a couple of bottles of Singal barrel ! The full proof is just little to Hott for my taste! Just scored some Elmer T Lee this week! Getting ready to try it on this cold Kentucky night! CHEERS!!!!
Congrats on the Elmer! I agree that the standard Full Proof can be a bit hot. If you have not tried a store pick of the Full Proof I highly recommend it.
Can't complaint about that price! It's not bad, just a little on the boring side. It got a bit better after the bottle was open for a few months. Cheers and Happy Holidays!
Thanks! It's not bad but I think your money could be better spent elsewhere. Even on the 1792 Full proof store pick. If you are lucky these can be found for under $40.
Great review. I enjoy both full proof and small batch. Small batch price point is hard to beat for the product. I liked the small batch due to a little sweeter and not as harsh as full proof. I generally prefer higher proof whiskeys over their lower proof siblings.
I found a single barrel store pick, that is great stuff. I do believe you are right about the small batch not living up to up its hype. You would think 93 proof would bring some flavor. Elijah Craig small batch brings great flavor at 93 proof!
Nailed the review. I do like this whiskey, but the flavor really isn't that impressive. It's a bit of a "stuffed shirt" as far as bourbons go. Nose is incredible -- the bottle is even impressive (it looks amazing on my shelf). The flavor is a tad boring though.
I haven't. Every time I think about it I realize that I can get the store pick full proof for the same price and I pass on it. If you like 1792 I hear is is good.
Great review Jon, I agree with you description and when comping it to the full proof it's a step down and for good reason. It's one that is just easy to sip on and a nice daily drinker. Cheers buddy
Much like you I'm a barrel proof fan so the full proof is definitely my favorite. I have a have a hand pick from the Oklahoma Bourbon Lovers and it's a great one! I think the Single Barrel is pretty good too but I just really love the extra proof to up that viscosity a little bit. Cheers!
I wish they could figure out a way to ramp up the pallet a bit. It has potential but just doesn't get there for me. Also, sorry it took so long to respond to your comment. RUclips thought you were a robot and put your comment in the spam folder.
Definitely. I've had some that don't smell great but taste amazing. One I remember that smelled so good I didn't think it would match the nose was Al Young. Boy was I wrong!!!
Been quite a while since I had this but remember the nose was the best part of it, the taste was dominated by sweet. It's good just not my favorite flavor profile. To bad one of their aging warehouses collapsed the areal pictures of all those barrels was impressive. Have heard the full proof is better on the palate. Cheers
Full proof is much better. Definitely worth picking you up especially if you can find a store pick. Any guesses on how much they will charge for the "Warehouse Collapse" bottling? Haha
I found this to be very very bland. I won't buy it again. I think that EW Black label has more flavor than this. However, the 1792 full proof is a whole different animal and worth having on the shelf.
Solid review. I agree about that discrepancy between the nose and that palate. Still hoping to see you back here soon. Cheers.
Great review dude!! 👍
Thanks! Appreciate you
I agree with your opinion. I've added a small slice of orange to 3 fingers and it really wakes it up.
Nice! Might have to give that a try. I'm always down for an experiment. Cheers!

it's kinda funny. indeed smells strong; but tastes light. has this apple-ish taste at the start, and some caramel and solvent lingering afterwards.
Pretty good description. If it tasted like it smells I wouldn't drink anything else. The full proof store picks are fantastic though.
I've tried many bourbons and this is my new favorite by far and its not expensive either
It is a solid pour for a solid price. I think there are probably some better whiskeys in that price range though. Check out my distillery was series. I do a side by side of several whiskeys under $30. Good times!
Not my favorite whiskey, but maybe my favorite on the nose.
I agree. Such a good nose. If only the whiskey tasted as good.....

Sounds good in theory but that hasn't been my experience with the small batch. The full proof on the other hand!
It reminds me a bit of gentleman jack. Considering it's about the same price and higher proof, it's pretty nice to me. It does burn the tongue though!
This one has such a great nose and just goes a bit flat on the palate. I would rather pick up a bottle of KC for the same price personally.

1792 was underwhelming. I love me some Elmer T!
You and me both! But I love Elmer at the regular price of $30. I have not seen a bottle in CA for less than $80 I'm quite a while.
I just bought a bottle on clearance for $17.99 so I had to buy. Still developing my palate, so I'm happy to add this to my shelf
Can't complaint about that price! It's not bad, just a little on the boring side. It got a bit better after the bottle was open for a few months. Cheers and Happy Holidays!
Nice review! Been considering this one for a little bit and it’s nice to hear some feedback on it
Thanks! It's not bad but I think your money could be better spent elsewhere. Even on the 1792 Full proof store pick. If you are lucky these can be found for under $40.

For me the standard Full Proof is a bit harsh. But every Full Proof store pick I have had has been great! Cheers!
I found a single barrel store pick, that is great stuff. I do believe you are right about the small batch not living up to up its hype. You would think 93 proof would bring some flavor. Elijah Craig small batch brings great flavor at 93 proof!
EC is way better to me as well. The Full Proof Single Barrel store picks are where it's at with 1792. Cheers!

No arguments out of me! 😂
The Full Proof is one of my favorites.
Definitely! And a great value.
Have you had 1792 Bottled in Bond? I’m debating on getting one since it’s limited release
I haven't. Every time I think about it I realize that I can get the store pick full proof for the same price and I pass on it. If you like 1792 I hear is is good.
I have not brought home a bottle. However, I've had two drams in the last year and each time I am underwhelmed. I guess we agree!
At least I'm not the only one! Cheers Jon!
I like the shape of your head.
Thank you?!?!
@@BlindWhiskeyReviews You're welcome.
Great review Jon, I agree with you description and when comping it to the full proof it's a step down and for good reason. It's one that is just easy to sip on and a nice daily drinker. Cheers buddy
Thanks buddy! I just can't get over the difference between the nose and the pallette.
Cheers!
Definitely! I would love to try a barrel pick and see what this whiskey is capable of.
I feel the same way. Nose and the actual taste dont match up. But for 26$ at Costco still great value
Definitely a good deal! But for me there are better whiskeys around the same price so I would probably pass. Cheers!
You nailed this one from my perspective. This is the only 1792 I've had. I found it ok. Like you said, drinkable but nothing special.
I wish they could figure out a way to ramp up the pallet a bit. It has potential but just doesn't get there for me. Also, sorry it took so long to respond to your comment. RUclips thought you were a robot and put your comment in the spam folder.
I had the same reaction! Great nose. Just a little thin on the palate, especially after that awesome nose
I know! Nothing is more heartbreaking......well almost nothing. Haha
Have you found any that taste as good as they nose?
Definitely. I've had some that don't smell great but taste amazing. One I remember that smelled so good I didn't think it would match the nose was Al Young. Boy was I wrong!!!
It has a fruity smell, strong taste however ok but not great taste
Definitely agree! Great nose but a bit weak on the palate.
Been quite a while since I had this but remember the nose was the best part of it, the taste was dominated by sweet. It's good just not my favorite flavor profile. To bad one of their aging warehouses collapsed the areal pictures of all those barrels was impressive. Have heard the full proof is better on the palate. Cheers

I now the felling of being disappointed -all bark and no bite
Exactly!!!
I found this to be very very bland. I won't buy it again. I think that EW Black label has more flavor than this. However, the 1792 full proof is a whole different animal and worth having on the shelf.
Haha don't know about EW black label having more flavor but I definitely agree that it is lacking in that Dept.
I could buy it but it would cost as much as a Knob Creek. So I stay away.
Then keep staying away my friend. Knob Creek wins against this one every time!
I've had better tasting bourbons, but this is by far the smoothest under $100 battle I've ever had
It's smooth for sure. I think it tastes a bit thin though. The Full Proof picks are fantastic though!
