I taught myself when I was like 8-10 because my parents told me I need to learn about my surroundings so they got me a map. I also learned many flags off fifa. I got lucky. Yes I am a big football/soccer fan. However I do not know many capitals and struggle to locate some african countries.

Every source I checked says that Guyana, the country on the northern Atlantic coast of South America just east of Venezuela is pronounced gahy-an-uh. If you learned of it being pronounced differently or spelled differently in another language, that's fine, but you were speaking in English with an English speaker, so gahy-an-uh would be the most appropriate pronunciation.
I would honestly probably go with the Caribbean ones... go name the capital of St. Kitts & Nevis
