Agent Texes Sampling is perfectly legal and acceptable in the music industry. All lyricists/ composers of any given sampled song are given writing credits and a cut of the royalties, in this case, Stephen Schwartz. Boiling it down to a matter of "stealing" is a very black and white and oversimplified view of a widely practiced and absolutely legal process. Had MIKA simply "stolen" the melody he would have long since seen himself in some deep copyright trouble with Wicked's writers.
