Hello, I'm not a mother tongue student and i'm struggling to understand some parts: at minute 14:00 you say that "behind the counter" is describing the girl so it does function as an Adjective Phrase, but i can't understand why it is so and it's not an Adverb Phrase stating the place where the girl is. Anyway, thanks for the video, it really helped me understand most of it
This is the best video Sir plz upload your next lecture about the brackets diagram. This video is very helpful to me bcz i'm worry about this topic and i don't know about the tree diagrams.
Prof Dr. Ok I will watch n listen your youtube. Iam Rosmina Zuchri from Indonesia Country. Hope I will increse my English after see your the subjects. Thanks
In the end, establishing rules for creating tree diagrams depends on the purpose and objectives of the person or organization that wants the diagrams. If you are a student writing tree diagrams for a course, find out from your professor how detailed they should be. If you are a researcher, determine the level of specificity required and follow that protocol.
Could you please help me understand how a diagram for "the house in the wood near the park" would differ depending on whether or not we're using the DP hypothesis.
Hello, I´m learning English and I have a question. in the example "some people work in the office on the second floor", how can I know that it is an adverb instead of an adjective phrase? because for me "on the second floor" may be describing the office. hope that you or somebody answer my question :)
Can you please explain how to break a complex sentence, mainly with the conjunction "with", into its complements. The sentence is: the ink dried when he had entered the class
Thank you for this video. I'm an English educator who is trying to brush up on some linguistics and I appreciate this kind of content that can help me. I have only one point of contention: Some people work in the office on the second floor. It seems much more logical to me that "on the second floor" is an adjective phrase corresponding to "office" instead of an adverb phrase corresponding to "work." Is there a reason you parsed it as you did?
Hi James, Your interpretation is also valid and would work. Typically adjectives are closer to their agent. SInce work was the close agent, I chose to have that PP modify the verb
The adverb phrase, after lunch, describes when the children went and played. Adverb phrases are typically embedded in the verb phrase. This particular adverb phrase was originally in the verb phrase and was moved to the head of a sentence. My examples that I post on RUclips do not typically described the move rules. So to make it easier, I simply add a verb phrase that is in front of the main subject or main noun phrase. An adverb phrase must be part of the verb phrase (predicate). It is not part of the main verb phrase where the sentence verb is usually stored. Does that answer your question?
Plz differentiate between noun phrase and prepositional phrase bcz in first example "for breakfast" isn't it a noun phrase? And second why can't we make the tree with VP and giving it more branches instead of joining the phrases to main VP part?
Convert the question into a sentence - They should be experienced SOMEHOW. Diagram the sentence and then use a transformation rule to make it a question.
Thanks, disagree about the office on the second floor thougj. This is more likely to be the AdjP branching from the N office, rather than AdvP modifying the verb

why did u draw an adv p in the first sentence(Elizabeth ordered green eggs and ham for breakfast),there is no adv to draw it.Ur driving me crazy
Because 'for breakfast' describes 'ordered'. It describes **why** Elizabeth ordered.
Thank you very much for your highly appreciated efforts
I have a question
Is ok not to mention the function of a pp ?

From iraq big respect ❤️
19:30 there is no verb in the phrase "After lunch" so why is it defined as a VP at the top?
The adverb phrase, after lunch, describes when the children went and played. Adverb phrases are typically embedded in the verb phrase.
