My dad would build one extension room st a time. For example when building a new bedroom for me. He would tear my room down and put up the frame and insulation floor and wirering and finish it off with new paint.. but i was not allowed to move into my room for at least a month. And he would keep windows open 24/7. This was 50 years ago.
I wish this information was more mainstream. There are so many unnecessary toxins we're exposed to daily and people need to be aware. Thank you SO very much for sharing!!
Thank you so much for being here! I really wish this was more common knowledge too -- it could save so many people from illness down the road. I'll just keep spreading the word in hopes that the right people here about reducing toxins in their homes and life.
Great information. I have been in my house for 5 years and the house is 7 years old. It's still off gassing and I have high level levels of VOC's and formaldehyde HCHO. I suspect my ducts could be leaky and bringing in attic atmosphere to the house
Thank you for the comprehensive review of this topic! How long should you filter dust fibers to remove construction dust before moving into a new home?
There's a general rule of thumb that the first six months of a house are the absolute worst for a new build -- so I might say six months (or until you're noticing less and less dust on everything). ON the other end -- the two year mark is generally when most off gassing has started to slow down.
This is so needed, thnx! To degass pex plumbing, does water need to be running through it those first 30 days? It seems hardly possible it would degass in just 30 days to me. And is their trial data for that? Subed, thumbs up, thnxxxx!
Hi Christina! It's really hard to say -- definitely the MOST off gassing occurs right away and then it usually drops off to just a low level. And while it will likely off gas for the lifetime of the product, you can reduce the effect on your home's environment with natural ventilation, air purifiers and keeping humidity levels low.

What do you do if your remodeled home still smells like a new construction after 4 years? I can't figure out what could be causing the off gassing.

Would you cover new cars as well?
That's a great idea -- definitely something I will be looking into!
