Not much happening here in south Georgia. Few ⛈️popcorn thunderstorms⛈️ came through. 😃😐
Well Scotty, love your vids, but in this one, you needed to include Toyota as an automaker that is going "down"...they have more recalls than Honda in recent years. Just facts.

I've had a Mazda 3 for 14 years now the basic one with the 4-cylinder engine it's been the best car I've ever had. And I've been driving for 44 years now. 👍😎
That's a nice car. I bought a brand new 1991 Mazda Protege which did 180.000 trouble free miles before I was rear ended by an SUV. No injuries, that little car held up nicely in the collision.
My mom owns a Mazda 6 2010 since 2015 and it's still going strong with over 200k miles. Unfortunately it was in a wreck recently but it was fixed up and she still drives it. She says it's the best car she's ever owned.
You are the man!!
I have an 07' mazda 3, 5speed manual. Great car and peppy!
My 2010 Mazda 3 has 210000 miles on it no got it second hand with 142000 original engine original transmission
I bought a 2019 Mazda3 brand new. As of today, 112000 miles on in and still running like new. I love it.
112k in 5 years!? Hope it's comfy haha
I mean its a new car its not like over a decade old lol
Does that car have cylinder deactivation on it?
@@trucks1451 The 2.0L Mazda 3 (2019) does not have cylinder deactivation, the 2.5L does.
I got a new Mazda 3 in 2022 after my daughter kept raving about her 2016. Toyota was pricing way over the MSRP then. The Mazda was less expensive than a Corolla I had looked at and it was far nicer with a beautiful interior, comfortable seats, more pep, great handling--just a beautiful car. It's great on long road trips. I don't experience driver fatigue or stiffness from sitting for long periods.
I dont care much about aesthetics, but I've heard the plastics are very scratchable... is this true? I'm in the market for a car and I wasn't sure what to get. For the most part Im hearing great things... what do you think?
@@nannetteralphs9042the piano black scratches very easily, as does the plastic over the gauges. Besides that they're isn't too much to complain about with Mazda's unless you're well over 6 ft tall as the interiors aren't very wide for longer legs.
@@tommytufguy3432 I agree with the piano black, although you can buy protectors to cover it, which work very well. My Mazda 3 is good in the front seats for people up to 6'3''. With a front occupant that tall, the back seat behind them then becomes unusable (and is only good for someone up to around 5'11'' in any circumstance, due to headroom).
Just bought my son a Mazda CX-5 after doing a lot of research and he loves it and it's super reliable.
Teach your son to work hard save and buy his own car. Obviously he loves it, he got it scott free.

Welp, if you just bought it, it still better be "super reliable"...
See how it's doing after 100,000
@@chuckfan1the cx-5 will go over 100k milles, they have proven themselves. CX-50, still not, have seen blown engines before 20000km but the other one, solid quality
I'm almost 60 and my Mazda CX-5 is the best vehicle I've ever owned.
I really wish Mazda continued producing sedans with manual transmissions 😭😭😭
I totally agree I don’t like their hatchbacks but love their sedans
@@mitchelldjunaedi2832 Agree, their hatchbacks look chopped off in the back too much
Love my 2016 Mazda6 manual. It will last forever
If they brought back the Mazda 6 as a station wagon with a manual, I'd buy one right now.
I had a Mazdaspeed6. I loved that car even with the little quirks it had. It was smooth and quick. Fun to drive and a beast in the snow.
i have a 2018 mazda 3 and its been great...ive had zero issues just basic maintainence (oil change, fluids, etc) its not a fast car but the best one ive ever had
How many miles ?
My mother has owned her 2015 cx-3 since new.
She even wanted me to change her oil/filters for her when the car was still under warranty 😂.
Who needs a fast car since in the USA you will have the State troopers pulling you over for speeding
Mazda's recent, excellent quality has NOTHING to do with Toyota. Mazda’s quality took off a decade ago when they split from Ford. Only the brand new Mazda CX-50 is jointly made with Toyota in their new plant in Alabama starting in 2021.
Thanks , NOW I know what Mazda to buy , a CX-50 ..
@@indycharlie The CX-50 is still 100% Mazda ... doesn't seem to have anything in common with the Corolla Cross made in the same plant.
@@seanthompson8071 they share technology and R&D with each other, that's about it.
And , that is a lot ! This is the same as when GM was doing the same thing with the Prism . @@Ungood-jl5ep
Ford was ruining them
I have been driving Mazdas since 1987. They are great vehicles. I have put 1 million miles on in those years on the 6 Mazda 6 / 626 and MX6 cars that I have owned
If I had to choose between two more cylinders and a turbocharger I would take the cylinders. A turbocharger is a way to get more power out of an undersized engine.
Now if we could get Mazda to make pickups again...
I think their Pickup was really a rebadge Ford Ranger.
They make all kinds of trucks all over the world. The only problem is you have to wait 25 years to import them to the US. The US politics is why they aren't sold here.
@jimmywalters3071 those little guys were wonderful tho
If it wasn't for Mazda,, Ford would not have improvized and reliable engines in their vehicles today...
Their current pickup, not sold in the US, is a reskin of the Isuzu D-Max, which by its own, is an excellent ute.
I recently gave my 2003 Mazda Protégé5 5-speed to my son. It's still running great. My 16 CX-5 has only had oil changes and brakes/rotors. Mom has a 2006 Mazda 3, and it never fails to start and run. Mazda has done right by me.
I completely agree Scotty. I had a 23 Ridgeline and it was terrible. My dad had a 23 Taco and it was terrible. I know have a 23 Frontier and it is amazing. My dad is now looking at a Mazda CX-70. We believe Honda and Toyota are no longer what they used to be.
they are all being cheaply made now lots of plastic. They dont have any domestic competion for cars anymore.
Just saw a 5 year old Nissan titan cummings with a transmission issue, ended up being a small gasket and there are no parts but a replacement pan available aftermarket or dealer, only option is buying the new transmission at $13k.
When Honda released that earth dreams 1.5 turbo GDI oil dilution engine in 2016 (civic's & crv's), I knew that was the end of Honda.
@@mrgarrison3516 yah. We realised when we got our 13 Pilot and it had tons of trouble that Honda was going downhill. Then we got an 18 CRV and it had the oil dilution, then I got the Ridgeline and it was bad. So I think we're done with Honda's 😂
@@JakeJake746
It's a shame caused Honda was awesome in the 90's .....but I guess alot can happen in 20-30 yrs 🤔
Mazda was a good car long before getting together with Toyota! Today I like that they have old fashioned automatics not CVTs or DCTs.
yes its a smart move
My Demio has cvt, it's something they toyed with but went against their zoom zoom philosophy. So they went back to old-fashioned automatic transmission.
@@cave2221 They're smart. Now they're sticking with what's worked for them & consolidating their engine offerings (4 banger with or w/o turbo). They don't just cling to the old either, they keep tweaking & making a better car. Kinda like Scotty CLAIMS Toyota does.
Always good tips, thank you.
I own a 2015 cx5 and a 2017 AWD Sienna and man what a combo.
Just saw the inside of a 2024 CX-90. Spanks any Japanese car and easily can run on par with Benz or BMW. The fit and finish is as high as I’ve seen!
So Wise , Thank you
Hey I bought a 91 F-150 XLT. Had a5 liter (302) . Had a Mazda. Manuel transmission 4 speed and overdrive. Bought it new and kept it till I sold it last year.(2023). 2014 Mazda 6 w/ 390k and still getting 38 MPG
That’s epic! What kind of maintenance beyond normal wear and tear have you done?
Just 4 sets of plugs & 1 set of coils. Oil changes every 5 to 7k miles (full synthetic) w/ filter every other change. Trans fluid change every 75k. New CV joints & front struts at 300k. Most of the miles rural & interstate driving.
Your car needs to be on Scotty’s show!
Love your knowledge of Internal Combustion Engines and the auto systems they drive. Your years of experience will continue to benefit many people for years to come.
I do think you're overly skeptical on EV technology, but I do concede the current infrastructure and battery tech is not quite there to fully overtake ICE yet. However, I converted to an EV proponent as soon as I got to drive one. The smooth experience of the drivetrain is simply unparalleled.
Thank You Scotty Kilmer 🙏👍
I gave my daughter my 2013 Mazda 3 with 230000 miles that's still going strong and bought a new CX30.
I was told you hold brake put it in neutral and then apply parking brake and then place it in park. I think this is the right way because even when I do put the parking brake on when in drive I do still get a little roll when putting car into park
Scotty's hand motion is aligned with his happiness index.
Great video! Is there anything you don't know? I'm off work and rather be fixing my truck. But is 90 something outside. Im waiting til near sundown.
I have a 2018 mazda 6 grand touring turbo! Best car I've ever had and I'd recommend it to everyone. Very well made especially the ones from Japan
Had a 2010 Mazda 3 for 13 years with 175k miles with zero major issues. Would've ran that thing into the ground but need more space so I got the CX-50. Love that car! I'll only own a Mazda
I bet the rims and tires where the same for both cars 5 lug pattern 😂
I wish Mazda would start making pickups for North America
they used to in the early 2000's
@@slumy8195they were rebadged ford rangers though
@@2015BLOXXERactually those early 2000's Rangers were one of only a few decent reliable Ford models being produced at the time. Most of the Ford lineup sucked at that time - excluding these little trucks that often ran 300-400k miles.
Love my CX-5, getting an MX5 later this year and likely a Mazda3 for my wife. Awesome cars.
my boss had 2 Mazda pickup trucks they were very small not huge does Mazda still make them? They seemed pretty nice.
This is good to know, I'm currently driving an '07 Ford Escape, sister of the Mazda Tribute, and it's a really nice vehicle to drive, makes me wonder how much of my car is Ford vs how much of it is Mazda. I know the engine is a Ford-designed V6, though they also have an option with a Mazda-designed inline as an option, that's all I know though.
I don't know how much I agree with the whole Kia Hyundai being so bad that it can barely go 100K I guess it totally depends on the specific year and model of the car but one of my co-workers has a 2008 Hyundai Elantra and even though the engine obviously sounds like it, it has 385,000 miles on it and it's still running. Ultimately though obviously, No matter what car, year, make, or model you have It inevitably comes down to How often you have it serviced and checked
I’ve had a KIA since 2012 and it goes like a clock…
I could've sworn Scotty said Hyundai and Kia were really better than before at one point. He did say they can go at least 100k miles trouble free. The older hyundais and kias did have engine problems. Not sure about transmission and electrical problems. I rented a Hyundai Elyntra and Kia K5 last year and they were great cars. I've rented a corolla as well and I'd personally go with the new Elyntra over the corolla due to less road noise
My colleague's 2014 Kia Optima had it's GDI engine seize right on the clock around 130000 km. Car was bought used, if not for the extended engine warranty that Kia was forced to give out by class action lawsuit, that guy would be screwed, simply out of their only car.
Why take a chance on a Kia/Hyundai when you get a Mazda as shown right in this video
@ij6708 I might agree with you but Beggars can't be choosers lol. My next car will probably be a Toyota or Mazda though whenever I have a much better credit score and an actual savings account to purchase a car with, For now, I just have to consider myself lucky I didn't end up getting stuck with something much worse Because while Hyundai and Kia might not be the best brands out there I feel like there are a lot of worse makes and models of cars out there that one could end up getting stuck with
You could have finished your coverage of parking on hills to turn the wheels into the curb as an added safety measure. Looking at Mazda5 myself.
I've been a Mazda owner for 30 years. My mom had an RX3 back in '77 and bought one of the first RX7's in 1983. I've had five 02-03 Proteges, one of the best handling and running little cars, I had a new 323 in 1987 and my son drove a B2000 for a couple of years. I now have an 06 Mazda3 we've had for eight years. But, all of them have been 4 or 5 speed manuals. I wouldn't own another brand car.
Thank you Scotty
I owned a 91 Miata until it got totaled by an older woman who pulled out in front of me in 2020. Never had a problem with it but it only had 110000. Low mileage for 29 years. I’m looking forward to replacing it with the same model Special Edition British Racing Green.
My 1993 Ford Explorer Sport (aka Mazda Navajo) w V6 man was/is my favorite. Never a major prob.
Just got a CX3, suits my needs great.
I’ve had cx90 for a month and its been really nice, except for trouble with CarPlay. It works more often than not so meh.
I love your passion!!! Inspiring message
Scotty, how reliable is the Mazda's latest 2.5 turbo engine?
V-8 in my '66 GTO was great. Now, I'm happy with V6(400 HP) in my '23 Aviator. I guess I have to be happy with what I can buy at 74 years old. ❤
I have a 2013 mazda 6 with diesel skyactiv. Awesome platform and engine if is well maintained.
Stay away from the 3rd Gen Mazda 6 (2008-2013). Rusting cross members, steering knuckle issues, headlight issues, dash melts (really) ,etc ... Do a little research and you'll see what I mean. Can't find aftermarket steering knuckles, and new ones cost anywhere from $350-$550. Headlight and taillight replacement units are over $100 even on eBay.
thanks for the tips
I believe they were still part of Ford at that time so it makes sense that it had problems
Those are Mazda - Fords
As bad as everyone thinks CVT’s are, I’m still keeping my Subaru Impreza going 350 miles per week to jobs with no issue in 7 years. I just change the oil every 4,000 miles and transmission fluid every 50k.
We have Mazda 626 2.5 v6/year 1992, Mazda 2/year 2020.both are great.

I bought a brand new Harley Davidson sportster 2018. I’ve never had a problem with it not one problem. The only problem I had is with the dealership the bike thank God it was good not too many motorcycle companies out there that have bikes running that are 50 years 60 or 70 years old on the highway in my sportster made out of steel. Nothing beats a Ford Mustang with a big V8 engine. Stunning looks, great performance and great sound! Unfortunately, like Scotty says, taxes in Europe make this a very, very expensive car ($90-100K new). It's insane! Importing a second hand Mustang doesn't help much: you have to pay the same taxes, so it still will be a very expensive car. Too bad, because many people would like to buy one (including me 🙂).
I'm actually planning on leaving honda (owned 6, 2 old, 4 brand new, and I've had nothing but problems) for mazda... been hearing nothing but great things.
I have mazda demio 2016 and I like the amt transmission
My brother had a 1986 Ford Mustang SVO Turbo 4cyl
I have a Mazda 3. It’s a great car. The only thing that is annoying with Mazda is that they make it harder for the DIYer to fix and upgrade things. For instance, the one single horn on the Mazda 3 sounds limpid and to install the second horn, you have to take the front bumper off. What a pain in the rear.
Bought a 2012 Mazda 3 iTouring with 100k for $4,600 in 11/23. A similar Civic or Corolla woulda been almost twice that. New plugs, filters, fluids, tires & battery brought it to $6,700. I'm very happy with it.
Scotty what do you think about Subaru? 2006-2010 outback.
Love my 2014 Kia Soul.
It was a mistake to discontinue the V6 Mustang. The Cyclone engine was a solid engine and could hold up because it was NA. Yes, it's still not a V8, but it was a better engine than that EcoCrap.
Bought a Miata aka MX5. Great sports car. Reliable lovely and 40 mpg.
Scotty, thoughts on the Ct5 blackwing?
I had a used Mazda years ago. It was awesome.
It looks like you are right Scotty. There are a bunch of 2024 Toyota Tundras with the 6cyl turbos, with spun engine bearings at 40 or 50k miles. These engines supposedly cost 36K to replace because of the way they are put in where they cut the truck in half, take the engine apart, put the new one in, and put the thing back together and test it. Some people are on their 3rd engine (cause toyota is replacing them with the same engines!) at under 70k miles! After they started chopping off parts like the transmission cooler in 2019 their reliability has been going down the tubes. The worst part is I need a new car and wanted to get a truck but not with this situation and at these prices.
It might be that the USA Hyundai and KIA models have problems but they are very well regarded over here in the UK, my KIA Ceed, has over 193K miles on it. Way back when I lived in the USA we had a Hyundai Entourage van and it was fantastic. My ex replaced with a KIA Sedona and now a Carnival. I've bought nothing but Korean cars since 2008. I still have the outlook that Japanese cars are superior but there's not much in it these days.
Scotty, one of your biggest complaints is turbos in small engines. Mazda CX 9 has just that.
Scotty, what bike brand would you say is the best for reliability and fuel price if your going to ride very fast everyday for long distances?
Scotty my neighbor has a 2020ish silverado with around 40,000 miles and he say it misfires under a load or when he kicks it, my opinion says sell it and buy a Toyota, but what do you think might be wrong?
I bought a new Mazda MX6 coupe twin to the Ford Probe....mine had a trunk etc in 1989. I drove the wheels off that car and never let me down. Mine was a 2.2 engine, 5 speed. I loved that car and ran it over 240,000 miles... 14 years. same engine and same clutch. I would have kept it as I loved it but got a 4x4 in which I needed.. so couldn't keep 2 cars. When I donated it , it was still running good , beautiful paint, no rust .. it was my Black Beauty. I think highly of Mazda.
Had a 94 MX6 V6 and manual. Great car, but I traded it for a Dodge Dakota because my wife couldn't drive a manual. That truck was brand new, but it was one of the worst vehicles I've ever had.
@@tangois The car or the truck was bad ? you confused me.

Scatty Scatty my son has a 1991 lexus ls400 and he first started rpms are normal put when it gets to temperature rpms go high. You have any idea what could be wrong.?
2015 Mazda6 here which has been reliable and steady after 160k miles. Hope to get 200k miles out of it. My only gripe is the battery only lasts three to 4 years before needing to be replaced.
Did you try the enclosed gel cell battery? Sometimes those last longer.
They have cylinder deactivation on some of the non turbo motors and just direct injection
If we are ever forced into buying EVs, I'd probably go for a Mazda or Toyota. Mazdas still have some decent styling and the Mazda red is really nice 👌.
Strange accounts copying my comments again.
Sure, I always like to buy products from companies that have done essentially zero R&D...
@@ThomasKing19933 it's pretty common all across YT.
@aussie2uGA is that why Mazda has come out with a inline 6 cylinder engine and 3 new model SUV's?

3:19 very true, very wise advice
I bought a nissan X-trail e-force, a car with electric motors, which is feed with a battery, which is charged by an 3-cylinder-gasoline-engine with 158HP. The 2 electric engines has together 310HP, but with computer-regulation only 213HP on 4 wheels. Nice car, nice concept, nice driving. How long it will last, I think, it is not a bad car, but the convenience to drive an electric car with gasoline motor is overwhelming. Perhaps, it will consume 1-2 litre per 100 km more than a toyota RAV4, but this is not a problem for me.

Range extending generators should be a thing. BMW had one for the i3rex, and it worked ok, it was a 2cyl and not pulled off or communicated particularly well. Ford and Rivian previously said that there would be an option for their trucks but have not delievered and in my opinion they won't. Because they don't want EVs.

He explains in a video that all the oil is sourced from the same place. For example, Toyota may buy their oil from Castrol. They just say to use Toyota brand oil because they make more money. Just go to your local autoparts store and buy whatever is on sale.
Oil is oil. they all come from the same place but different brands likely use different additives so go with the cheapeast or whatever you can buy
Only buy a Toyota when the vin decoder starts with the letter J.
Our 2008 Camry, made in Japan, did not have the runaway, unable-to-stop problem, but it had the common problem of that generation of excessive oil consumption and then we figured out a defective ABS module started causing all kinds of problems, some very dangerous. (Some signs were evident when brand new, but concerns were dismissed with a very stupid, insulting explanation.) Trying to get a diagnosis was very difficult; some mechanics were dismissive, doubting what my daughter told them, or just incredulous that so many things were going haywire. One place brought in a specialist who finally figured it out. What a nightmare. My daughter once had the brakes lock up when entering a freeway ramp and spun out on dry pavement. It was frightening and there was no apparent explanation at the time. The car was always well maintained. Then the radiator. Thousands to fix everything that was wrong. She barely made it to the car dealer where she traded it for the 2016 Mazda 3. (That was 2 years ago.) The salesman saw the Camry and asked, are you sure it's not worth something, it looks so beautiful. He opened the hood and steam was pouring out! Nope, take it off my hands! Mileage unknown as the speedometer and odometer didn't work half the time. But definitely over 150,000 miles. She lived with some of the problems for quite a while and got good at driving without ABS at least half the time, and adjusting as needed. We bought this car new and cared for it, passed it down to our daughter, expecting it would last for a long time. We figured it would do better than our previous Chrysler minivan that made it to 180,000.
My Civic, bought new in 2005, has 52k kilometres. It still runs great. :-) I think some people buy an EV because they are subsidized by the taxpayer.
Yon no what is funny, you are older and like new technology, derrick on vice grip garage, he is younger and likes older technology. and if you watch both of them, you learn everything about cars. You need know all about cars. love you both.
Mazda made a mistake with their new straight 6 Cylinder engine in the C90 by putting the timing chain in the back of the engine.
The chain is made by Toyota group aka the stronger timing chain in the world. That's why Toyota are so reliable.
I have a 2014 mazda 6 with 120k miles. Runs like a champ. Love the car. Compared to my 2004 mazda 6 with the Ford Engine, the 2014 is clearly superior.
Fellow mazda6, mine is 2015 gt, no turbo but still fun to drive, 150k miles almost 10 years old and still running not a single problem
I'm in Thailand and see a lot of mazda 2's on the road here.
I always thought Mazda was a good car brand. I bought a 1994 Miata 5SPD Manual brand new, and it's still going strong with zero issues after all these years.
Has anyone ever tried a system that using counter rotation flywheel's and a small motor/engine that could utilize the inertia of the flywheel's. Possible as many as 6 sets?
you have my like
Remember the old bicycles that had a light that was powered by a generator attached to the wheel, so you can get something for nothing
Not quite. It was harder to cycle to generate the electricity for the lamp.....especially for long distances.

I have a made in Japan 2014 Mazda 3 I bought new, it now has 143,000 miles on it and haven't had to do a thing to it other than regular maintenance. It gets over 40 MPG. I'd keep it forever, but have been thinking of getting a new made in Japan CX-5 (easier to get in and out of in my old age). All the safety/nanny/climate change crap on new vehicles is the only reason I haven't bought one, not sure I could stand to put up with all that government mandated stupidity in a vehicle every day.
I’ve put 150k on my CX-5 and never had it in the shop for anything except the brakes, which is going to need upkeep with any vehicle.
Cylinder deactivation is "going up"? I don't think so.
Idk how my Mazda 3 is still going, but it is.
Scotty what could be wrong with Honda if dash lights don’t work your in put please
