      I need a partner to practice with. I just can’t get myself to train by myself, since I need to hone my reaction times and reflexes for better defense.
      I ended up making homemade karpatka instead, lol.

      Well done miss F,. I enjoyed watching your blog today well done that looks like a heavy sword, I just now tried it with my rapier. As for practicing with a mirror I will be in front of one all day tomorrow as NZ is now out of lock down sort of . I’m a NZ Christchurch x Mayfair Nicky Clark international hairdresser and colourist your hair colour is in some need of attention but at the end of day you have beautiful hair. Try curling with a tong or GHD once it’s in a high pony tail to hide re growth
      Or I’m guessing from experience colouring other European woman that most times I you can achieve your level of blonde very easily without bleach as your natural colour is often a level 7/0 , you can simply apply a 9/0 natural colour to the roots after 45 minutes, always go that long as the lift is achieved in the final 10 to 15 sit close to a heater, appeal heavy to rootS, apply left overs in bowl in the last 5 to 8 minutes to ends an massage then jump in the shower, Keep up the blogs 🇳🇿🇳🇿

      @@stefanleslie2908 Hi, I'm glad you enjoyed my video :) Hair wise when I did the ponytail it was supposed to be hidden under the fencing mask, but the plan changed on the go :) As for the colour, thank you for your advice, but I'm not adventurous enough to do hair colouring myself I have my favourite hairdresser who does the job for me (but of course not during the lockdown :) But I'll keep it in mind in case I change my mind!

    With my 5 parries I always teach bringing the blade up across the body to catch any feints or thrusts. I find bringing the blade directly up to the parry misses thrusts to the head.

    • @missfencing
      @missfencing  4 года назад +3

      Well, it strongly depends on the distance, when the attack to the head is very 'flat' I advise using the 1'st 'flying' parry to avoid the situation you are talking about. I will gladly do once an episode covering this. Cheers! :)

    Thank you for the lesson. In return, a little vocabulary: sharp part = "true edge", not-sharp part = "false edge".

    • @missfencing
      @missfencing  4 года назад +16

      Ha, thank you! In Polish, a true edge is called 'ostrze', and a false edge is called 'płaz', funny useless thing is that 'płaz' is also an amphibian. And clearly parrying with an amphibian is not only wrong but also cruel. Cheers! :)

    • @Druid_Ignacy
      @Druid_Ignacy 4 года назад +4

      @@missfencing Well, there is misunderstanding here: ,,płaz" means ,,flat [part of the blade]". False edge is ,,backedge" or ,,shortedge" - and for example in polish sabers part of false edges are sharp (the feather of saber; pióro), so one can perform balls-cutting hellish polish quart ;) Also in longsword there is true and false edge, or long and short (no difference here, just different names) despite that both side of the edge are exactly the same. However this terminology helps to describe actions, as false edge descending or asceding cut is completely different than similar cut with true edge.

    Stumbled upon your channel a couple weeks ago and enjoy the content! It's an interesting look into the classical foundation and background of the sport of fencing, one that I don't often visit when coaching and training myself, but the historian in me is extremely fascinated. Your tournament coverage and interviews are also a pleasant glimpse into this aspect of fencing. HEMA appears to have more exposure than MCF here in Canada and I'm curious to know what you find different between these two groups? On another note, it's nice to see the sabre parries of modern Olympic fencing still align with MCF. Good job on the engaging content and greetings from one fencer to another!

    • @missfencing
      @missfencing  4 года назад +1

      I hope you will stay, and continue to enjoy my content. MCF is quite different than HEMA, has more in common with Olympic fencing, though rules allow more, as close combat, and there is a huge difference in double hit ruling. Thanks to that a fight resembles a sharp weapon duel. There are some more differences, but hard to cover shortly, I will make an episode about it one day. Cheers :P

    • @osmfencing
      @osmfencing 4 года назад

      @@missfencing Thanks for clarifying, that makes sense and I would imagine there is certainly a more detailed discussion on that. I've never tried either HEMA or MCF, though viewing your videos I can certainly see a closer relationship between MCF and Olympic fencing than with HEMA - I had a student who transferred in from HEMA and it took a lot of work to correct his technique and concept surrounding the sport. I look forward to a video examining it in the future :)

  • @KatuzaR
    @KatuzaR 4 года назад +1

    I have question about 5'th parry. A lot of peoples do the slower version with little round in front of them because they think the simple way to do 5th can swipe enemy sabre like wipers into head or if enemy hit too low then "normal 5th" can miss. So, can I please some advantages and disadventages another kinds of 5th parry?
    Best regards!

    • @missfencing
      @missfencing  4 года назад +1

      Well, if you are on time with the slower version you will be definitely on time with faster. If the enemy hits that low, you should do the 1'st parry. 'Flying' 5th - (piąta lotna - in Polish), is a different case and I will come back to it another video:). Cheers! :D

    This is a good and interesting video. But if fighting with real weapons you would not do the thrust the way its shown in this video if using a saber although it would be perfect for a rapier. but with saber (actual saber not Olympic saber) you would not have any leverage this way. you can pull it off but you would be much better off if you turn your wrist the other way with knuckles pointing up. either that or with your wrist pointing side ways. I don't have any fencing experience but I do know that thrust you showed is a very good one for a rapier but not so if done with real saber.
