    The fire alarm community is more helpful than the Fire-Lite folks themselves!

    Clip is a legacy protocol that would never be used in a new system deployment. Clip would only be selected on an older system where the control panel is being upgraded but the initiating devices are remaining where the initiating devices are not compatible with lite speed due to their age. Some of the new system sensor made addressable devices are not compatible with clip such as the combination smoke and CO detectors.
    While using Clip mode devices addresses can not be set above 99 whereas on the newer protocols addresses through 159 can be used on certain panels.
    If legacy addressable devices and newer addressable devices are mixed on the same loop then Clip mode must be used.
    The protocol known as LiteSpeed on Fire-Lite panels is know as Flashscan on Notifier panels and Velocity on Gamewell-FCI panels.
    On a Gamewell-FCI panel you can identify Velocity mode compatible devices as they have a “F” in the part number. For example a AMM-2 vs an AMM-2F.
    Thanks for the videos keep it up!!!

    If you are adding new smoke SD365 detectors to a system that is using CLIP mode, make sure you get the "IVORY" model as they work with either protocol. The SD365W models only work in LITESPEED mode.

    Wow. This is something I did not know. You learn something new every day! Nice video!

    0:51 this is where you’re wrong. The Lite speed protocol was meant to be newer technology. It’s really meant for new installs and entire replacements. Clip is still shipped with panels due to backwards compatibility with devices that can’t run LiteSpeed (like the SD-350s and the BG-10LXs). The newer SD-365s are not compatible with clip. You have to used the SD-365-IV. The Notifier Inspire panels (which hasn’t fully replaced yet but there are some distributors who are installing it) are making CLIP protocol behind a paywall (under the name licenses) so Honeywell can push the newer technology like FlashScan and LiteSpeed.

    It’s not only once a second, it takes longer to poll each device depending on how many devices are on the SLC, this doesn’t matter on Litespeed

    Illinois: LIGHTSPEED
    Every other state: LITESPEED

    I changed over a 9600 to a 9600udls it only gives me lite speed settings will it work with the detectors that were set for clip?

    does the blinking led on each initiating device remain a constant glow when it is tripped or goes out?

    Switch a firelite 9200 to a 9600 today old panel was defective... spend 3hrs trying to figure out why 4 module wasnt working until i read this in the manual god dammit...

    Does the LS on the panel model number denote whether it is compatible with litespeed or not?

    • @Loganetics1
      @Loganetics1 8 месяцев назад

      Yes, it does. The 9200UDLS, the 9600LS, and 9600UDLS all support LiteSpeed. The ES-Series also supports LiteSpeed, but it is not shown in the model number. Even though the MS-9050UD came out alongside the 9200UDLS, it only runs CLIP because it is such a small panel to the point where CLIP would run fast enough polling 25 pulls and 25 detectors.

    No matter how big the building is, or how big the system is, I would use the LS, or LiteSpeed, because CLIP is not very good.

  • @Georninja
    @Georninja 6 лет назад

    Why not just leave it on Litespeed if all of the modules are capable of this feature?

      I think it has something to do with power consumption. The litespeed setting, I believe, uses a little bit more power than the clip setting because the polling cycle time decreases dramatically.

    • @ironmatic1
      @ironmatic1 5 лет назад

      Power consumption would be such a tiny difference... The panels include the CLIP protocol for retrofits where the devices are legacy and do not support the Litespeed protocol.
