*DRacokid247* Yes. I shed my tears for the one who carried the crew since East Blue all the way to Water 7. Long live the memory of the Klabautermann of the Straw Hat Pirates.

I'm pretty well known for slacking off on my work and my thesis guide is basically vexed with me, but nonetheless, I'm definitely interested in writing stories, and just writing in general.
I've been writing and worldbuilding a story that I intend to make into a manga for about a year now. One Piece is my main influence but I've been trying to learn a lot from other stories as well, and from fantasy authors in general. I can't wait to be able to finally show everyone, but I don't want to rush it and have an undeveloped world that I'm not happy with.
I enjoyed writing short stories in high school, but never took it any further haha. How about you? Are we going to be getting a book written by Ohara one day? ;)
I've been brainstorming stories and Developing ideas. There is one story that I'm very passionate about being my Magnum Opus. The main influences are One Piece and Fullmetal Alchemist; mostly FMA cause of the Gothic Horror Themes in the series that I want to utilize. But One Piece definitely sparked So much creativity for me that I'm just researching illusions of world-building, tropes that can be played or deconstructed and just how to keep readers invested.
When I tell my friends that many of OP fans cried tears for the death of a ship called (The going Merry). They still cannot believe it. Yes ladies and gentlemen, Odda is the only author who made his readers cry for a ship. I am one of them :)
When i try to convince my friends of how good One Piece is i always bring up the fact that Oda made me cry about a ship i think thats pretty significant since i dont cry that much but damn seeing the merry burn and knowing we wont see it again it was heartbreaking and in my opinion this just adds up to how good of a story One Piece is and how good of a storyteller Oda is One Piece is by far the best anime ive watched and ive watched a few none come close to One Piece in complexety or world building in my opinion its just that good The part that saddens me is that a lot of people dont even wanna start watching it cause of the ammount of episodes it has but my argument to that is thats not a bad thing its a good one since One Piece is so good u have a lot of good experiences ahead of you.
I like how oda implied that the men just took dumps in the sea. Also, the fact that nami's tangerines always have fruits leaves me to believe that chopper has been doing some advanced fertilizing.
@@Ohara-the-Fox you could also argue that Oda really treats his characters as real people, he knows how their mannerisms work, even the small details about the Merry that never made it into the manga is fully realized. It reminds me of a Brandon Sanderson lecture where he talks about knowing your world and characters. It's like being the creator of a world but at the same time the author is a spectator documenting what is happening in the said world and seeing how the characters react. Now, the author's job is to present that world to the reader in a simple and interesting way.
You forgot to mention that Merry also had expression's. So you knew what Merry felt at times despite her being a ship. I wonder if Merry and Sunny will show up in Wano. Big mom's Soul fruit countered by the ships spirits... I know more than likely not, but it would be awesome if so.
NOT ONE PIECE RELATED BUT My mentor in film making way back in highschool would often tell me to use this technique. He would tell me to use everyday objects as key or center for a plot I'm making given that I'm really into symbolism and the like. And Oda has really succeeded in making good use of that technique and it inspired meh... This review reminds me of those time~
It may not be related, BUT is a great comment of doing what you were taught amazingly in your life. All thanks to a good teacher who KNOWS from experience and mastering the technique.
When I was reading the Ennies Lobby arc I knew it was many people's favourite arc but even after Luffy defeated Lucci I didn't know why. Then a few chapters later I was shedding tears for a boat and I understood.
I'm a guy in my late teens and I'm crying. Im crying every single time I see going merry. This video gave shivers down to the end of my spine. Every time I see the scene where the Straw Hats are burning the ship, I cry, I cry real hard. BEST FRICKEN MOMENT IN ONE PIECE
Well i thought luffys backstory with ace and sabo should've taken place between impel down and marineford. Because we knew next to nothing about ace until he was already dead.
The only thing you forgot to point out is the clever use of "facial expressions" that both Merry and Sunny have from time to time. I also find it interesting how you can notice it becoming more and more frequent the longer they sailed with Merry, as if they were nurturing her spirit enough through their travels, for her to become "alive". I always found her subtle reactions so funny.
There are quite a few scenes that show that Merry was more than just a ship, the ones that I remember from the get-go is when the crew fell from Skypiea and everyone’s eyes, including Merry’s, popped out. Another one was during Usopp and Luffy’s fight where it seemed that Merry was crying. As we say in Greece, it’s the details that make the differences, and given that Oda draws very detailed panels, it’s more than just reading a story, but finding little details here and there is also a kind of weekly adventure for me 😀
I'm surprised you didn't bring out more moments where Merry emoted. Whether sweating or that famous fall from Skypiea where even she freaks out, it's those small moments that not only gave her character but also made her end the more poignant.
I'm so glad someone else pointed that out, this fall is my favourite memory from Merry! I miss these small interactions from Sunny, I think they should also happen now and then.
ngl I always thought those were just visual gags, but seeing this and looking back on them sort of made them hit hard. She was always alive, she was always the going merry, and she was with them every step of the way.
A very similar setup to this would be the black car (Baby), the Winchesters use in the show Supernatural. The car has not been shown to have an actual life, but it's become sort of a main character in the show. The times it's been wrecked or they were forced to put it into hiding, it's definitely been felt or missed by the characters and the fans
Great video. In addition to the points you made, something that I feel like is a part of Merry and her story is the idea of inevitability. It was important that Oda has this character in Merry appear at the start of the series, because in a journey towards becoming the Pirate King, it becomes evident that you couldn't go all the way with Merry. Combine the inevitability factor with the anthropomorphic nature of Merry, you suddenly start cheering for this tiny ship amidst the other, more soulless giant counterparts it meets in the Grand Line. I don't think we are due a similar storyline with the Thousand Sunny. The Thousand Sunny has been written like an advanced tool, that sets the precedent for the Straw Hats entering the New World and surviving there. If it gets broken, Franky can just fix it. The fact that with Merry, the crew had no shipwright and its condition kept becoming worse and worse strengthened her "character" and the idea of inevitability for Merry's role in the journey. I think it was a brilliant choice for Oda to bring the most out of the assets at hand without drifting from the overall axioms/narrative of the story.
Goddammit Ohara, now i got to watch the damm funeral scene and cry again... Love you got more time now to do videos. It helps close the gap between chapters.
Dammit!! I cann’t stop crying!! 😭😭 The Going Merry funeral’s episode is the one that makes me cry the most in One Piece... I cry when I watch it, listen it, talking or listening to talk about it... even remembering it... I can not listen “Dear Friends” without crying... Curse you, Oda... You traumaticed me... 😭😭😭
I think part of her characterization that you omitted is the personality of the Merry. There are many points before Enies Lobby where Merry literally has reactions to what's happening and emotions (seemingly). Take the plunge from Skypeia for example there's a look of shock and horror on her face as they plummet out of the sky. Clear anthropomorphism.
Merry death was the first scene in one piece I cried and i would cry again. She is a part of the straw hats. I really feel like a crew died. But she lives on in Sunny.
I love the Merry scenes just as much as every other adult crying in the comment section, but what I feel the story lacks is that type of relationship with the Sunny. The Sunny is a really cool ship and all, but I wish we got to see more of a Merry-ish personality. It might have something to do with Franky being there to make proper repairs, but even back on Skypia with the Klabautermann fixing the ship itself, you could tell that the spirit was having fun, and really enjoyed being a part of their journey. There's none of that with the Sunny though, almost as if the ship is sturdy enough to not need that kind of compassion from the crew like the Merry did. Luffy ripped off the mast of the Merry, and used it as a weapon, and Usopp did his best to reattach it, but he could only do so much. It's those kind of moments that really made the Merry come alive. To see over the course of time all the damage that the ship took and that it was able to repair itself out of sheer will to be able to keep going for it's family because it just loved to be with them. Obviously, it's better to not over-do the whole "sentient ship" thing, but even with the mini Merry, when it was introduced, it sort of made you feel like although Merry as a ship passed on, that the Klabautermann and Merry herself were still able to come along and continue the journey with us. But we haven't gotten anything like that since Water 7. Just imagine how cool it would be to have like, Nami and Ussop riding the Mini Merry around being chased by a group of enemies, only to have the Merry slightly change direction and the pursuing enemies run into a submerged rock or whirlpool or something. I think something like that would be really cool. It doesn't have to be a big thing, but just a small reminder that the spirit is still there, loving them as much as she ever did. You could even add in a laugh from the Klabautermann, or have it tap Usopp on the shoulder subtly to like warn them of an upcoming obstacle or danger. I just really liked the idea of the ship being one of them, and I don't feel like the Sunny really represents more than a luxury ship, with all the toys and gadgets to be cool. It doesn't ever really make the emotional connection that the Merry did. And Iceberg knew about the Klabautermann! He was a master shipwright and even he was shocked to see that Merry had gained the sentience to love and care for it's crew because that is so rare. Imagine how Franky would feel, knowing that his ship loved them. He's an emotional guy, and he loves the Sunny more than anyone. But even as masterful as he is, even he doesn't have that relationship with the Sunny, or any of the other ships he's created. The Merry was special. A one in a million ship that even the best shipwrights in the world thought couldn't hold out, but she did. Not even Whitebeard or any of the other veteran pirates in the story had that type of relationship with their ships and they rode them for decades. The Whitebeard pirates weeped at the loss of the flagship at Marineford, but it still didn't love them like Merry.
The thing with this is, while I agree, it would be awesome to see some love for the Sunny, you really only care for this stuff with Merry BECAUSE of what happened. The klabautermann (sp?) was brought up in building up Water 7. Without that arc , the klabautermann wouldnt exist, the feelings for Merry as a crew member wouldnt exist Water 7 MADE people feel for her. Made her part of the crew, because she passed on. Its hard to do that with the Sunny without killing it too. I showed my friend the beginning of Water 7, tryna get him into OP, and hes like...why the fuck do they care about this ship so much? What did I miss by skipping to this part that makes watcher give a fuck? I had to explain that this arc is why. That we are just now seeing the love they have for Merry. Also, mini Merry spirit would be cool. I could see people being like, its not the same ship, and Klabautermann only would show up in extreme situations etc. But Id dig it lol
@@chieffanLJ27 Yeah, you're probably right about it being Water 7 that really drives home the idea that everyone really cares for the Merry, but for me, I did love seeing the damage it took build up and not just magically be repaired next episode like you might see in a different show. You start thinking about it from a story writing perspective, and you know Oda had been foreshadowing this Klabautermann idea for a while, or else he wouldn't have allowed for the Merry to keep taking so much excessive damage. The first scene with the Klabautermann was on Skypia, still relatively early on, and it was fixing the ship then and saying it'll carry on a little longer. The whole idea behind it, is that the spirit will only show itself to people who love and care for the ship when the ship is already doomed. So, Merry should have sunk long before Skypia, but it was maintaining itself, and technically alive already. I suppose it makes sense that the Sunny is never truly in much danger because we have Adam Wood plot armor, like in Wano, when rocks fall on it and it's fine, and then we have Franky who really can just magically fix the Sunny no matter what happens, so it doesn't need a Klabautermann. The lack of a Klabautermann for the Sunny just means that it's in no real danger as of yet, and it probably won't be, because the whole point of Franky's character is that this is the ship that will house the Pirate King's crew and travel around the whole world, but I still really want to see something more from it. I think the Mini Merry should be utilized more and I think fans would love it. It's easy to forget about it with all the parts of the Franky Shogun in the Sunny's hull, but I'd really love to see the Klabautermann again. I think because the Mini Merry is so small, and could easily get swallowed up by a big wave, that it would be cool to have it appear in moments like that and narrowly save their skins from certain death. Lol Yeah, I'm hardcore thumping the idea, but damnit, man. I thought it was a great idea. Lol Imagine after end game One Piece, Usopp returns home on the Mini Merry by himself to see Kaya in Syrup Village. She's asks him where his ship is and he just nods towards the Mini Merry and explains what happened. She could comment that it's a very small vessel, that couldn't navigate open waters all the way back to Syrup Village with no trouble, and Usopp could just be like, "Nah, there's no way Merry would let me die before I made it back home to you." And like imply that it's still looking out for him even now. BAM. The fan base is crying, and my head canon is right. Lol
The "wreck ship up as weapon" part is stupid. Luffy is not a continuous idiot who does not learn. He apologizes to Merry for hurting her repeatedly. He KNEW he was largely the reason why Merry got into her condition. When Sunny comes along, Luffy stopped being reckless and destroying his ship, a nakama. Yes, Franky's presence immediately fix Sunny if she ever got damaged, but it's dumb to wish her to get damaged to raise the stake. Luffy WILL NEVER hurt Sunny after what happened to Merry. Luffy is an idiot, not a fool. He learned from experience and make sure to not make the same dreadful mistake twice.
I also think Klabautermann are for extreme ocasions, and I hope we don't need to see Sunny's. But something I still miss are the really small details and messing around with Merry, like getting her "ready" to go up the Knock-up Stream looking like a chicken, or my favourite scene, when they drop off from Skypea and everyone's eyes pop out, including Merry's! In that moment I felt that Merry was a living being, and their nakama. Even without putting Sunny in danger, I wish we saw more of them messing around, and maye some funny faces from the cute Lion
i love the clear effort and passion you put into these videos, it oozes inspiration and ambition. incredible story telling and analysis absolutely beautiful. keep it up
Anyone else kinda bummed the sunny has no characterization? The strawhats haven't all been together since Zou and we never get to see them just hanging out together being themselves post timeskip.
The scene where Merry comes back to save Luffy always gets me. It's just as emotional as the funeral to me, the "call" that Usopp and the rest of the crew can hear as she comes back, the soundtrack, and "Everyone! I came back to get you!" just wrecks me.
I literally thought that Merry was going to go with them all the way to the end. It never crossed my mind that it wouldn’t happen.... I cry every time Merry is mentioned.
You're just pumping content in this quarantine at this point and I'm here for it. Out of everything in this scene, the one thing that *really* pulls my heartstrings, is that goddamn music. This very track, 'Mother Sea', played at the very beginning of the anime too, for shu shu defending his dead master's home.. this track never stops bringing tears to my eyes.
I’d also like to point out that relationships like developing between sailors and their ships are fairly common. It’s one reason why you sometimes see museum ships being run by former crew members, ship crews fighting for days on end to keep their ships from sinking, or even captains refusing to abandon ship even when they can be saved. There are many cases of this in other forms of fiction as well. Captain Jack Sparrow made a deal with Davy Jones himself to raise the Black Pearl after she was burned by Beckett, and in the Master and Commander books Jack Aubrey kept commanding HMS Surprise even long after the Royal Navy solder her.
Jimbe will finally be a crew member that makes it so the SHcrew doesn’t depend on luck getting from island to island. Which will be awesome. I loved how the Going Merry carried “battle scars” going through the grand line. I do wish the Sunny had some of the same battle marks, but once getting a helmsmen not having them anymore. Nami to draw a map of the world. Franky building a ship that can traverse the world, Jinbe completes this. Considering how hard it is to get to notoriously difficult islands. Not to mention escaping marines and naval battles. I love how OP is now, but I do miss the old days. A group of misfits on a small ship. I wish Jinbe got to meet Merry. But it’s fitting him being the helmsman for the Sunny. Imagine the Sunny being protected by Luffy. Zoro & Sanji. Ussop using the cannon. Chopper and Brook carrying Soda. Franky preparing maneuvers, Nami giving directions and creating storms, Jinbe being able to “Surf” and do so much more. ( still hoping he uses WhaleSharks to cross the calm belt)
I admit, it is impressive that from just a ship Oda was able to create a moment of pure heartbreak. They were the first (and so far only, although Whitbeard did show some sadness of losing his own) that truly sees a ship as more as an means to an end. But I have say it was not until its final voyage that everything Merry was became more emotional impact a Past vehichle that started the journey would in the end be the Smile for tommorow that carries the Sun which inherit its dream
I love the symbolism of Merry and the 1000 Sunny means for the Straw Hat's journey. The happy-go-lucky fledgling pirates riding a caravel ship with an innocent lamb mast to a ferocious lion mast fit for a crew seasoned in battle ready to take on the new world.
Thank you for this video. :') As a Star Trek fan to begin with I always felt as much love for the original U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 the same way as for the Going Merry as characters when I discovered One Piece, because of the reasons you explained briliantly. Mainly reason 1 and 2. However the reboot movies fail to portray her as a character, where the Enterprise is blown up oder damaged several times but you don't have that connection with, because there is no good cennection with the charcters with to the ship and vice versa., while in TOS she is even refered as a beautiful lady/woman by her captain and chief engineer and a cast member by Roddenberry. But Oda takes it to another level with the Merry in regards to storytelling.
Ayee, brooo, thank u soooooo much for making videos like this, using OP as a blueprint is what Goda did for Dragon ball, so aye, plz keep it up and I wish I wasn't so broke so I could support u in more ways than just a bell icon on and comments and likes. Thanks so much bro, oh, I'm writing a book if that wasn't clear from the huge appreciation
I cried so much when I first saw the episodes and now I can't help but tear up. Oda has such a way with storytelling that can make us feel so many emotions.
Hey Ohara - I just came across your channel today. I think you do a really good job of breaking apart how amazing these moments are. Thanks for the amazing content
The Dawn/Sun is a recurring topic in One Piece, and in Enies Lobby is the arc that the Strawhat Crew officially became an enemy to the World Government (which is the responsible for the world "darkness/night"). So the end of this arc marks the point in the story where they stop Going Merry (casually adventuring through the seas) and start bringing the "Sun" to everywhere they go, boarding the Thousand Sunny
Going Merry...she became what a lot of ships become to sailor. She just doesn't stay a ship, she becomes a soul. Even in real life this happens. Sometimes it just seems your ship has become alive somehow. It's a great aspect of the grand tales of sailing and the sea. I think that was what Oda was going for by giving the Going Merry a Klabautermann. Not quite anthropomorphism in it's usual and traditional sense: just a bond these sailor make with their home. And she was home to the Straw Hat Pirates. Now they lost all that came with her, just so they can value and treat Thousand Sunny better.
First scene to ever make me cry In fact it’s the only one to actually make me cry I usually just feel sad for certain scenes but this one had me tearing up
It’s heart touching/breaking when the Merry comes to the rescue of the crew even when she is cast off to die she still was there for them at the very end of her life
Going Merry’s death and White Beard’s death made more cry more than Ace’s death because if you remove Luffy from the scene of White Bear’s and Ace’s death, and had them dying together without Luffy in those scenes White Beard’s death would still be as a sad as the Going Merry’s death.
the most emotional part was that crew was killing her but didn't even realize that. they were slowly and continuously killing her and we as audience also didn't even see it coming.
this maybe the most heart warming anime scene I've ever scene , Oda is one great story teller portraying a ship to having a soul because its crewmates put so much love for her, and the funeral scene Luffy apologizing to merry is one of the saddest moments in One Piece. Luffy did say early in the series that merry isn't just a ship its a member of the straw hats pirates maybe this is the moment that Merry's soul was born, at least its what I think, and most of the time Oda is putting expressions on Merry just look at the scene when they are about to fall back to sea from Skypeia you can clearly see the merry being shock as the nose of the ship arcs down and when Franky rebuild Merry a small steam paddel boat is also one of the happiest scene in the series seeing Ussop and Chopper so happy they can ride Merry again.
You don't want bad things to happen to u like a disease or an unfortunate event and ... that would make u cry , wouldn't it? Yet i find it so fascinating how deep it goes, imagine a person that was bullied, how would he/she feel about the bad treatment of chopper's backstory, sometimes I think to myself that even if it is just a mere show, how can one achieve such .... memorable sad events? Nami had to see her mother die, Luffy had to see his brother die, Sanji was mistreated, Chopper had to endure all that bullying, robin just ; -; and don't get me started on the others. They learn from it but still. I from time to time wondered how Oda could come up with these because I could not believe how much he made all the viewers think. My reaction to deaths, painful experiences and so on is unnatural. Maybe it should be considered as more than a cry. I'm gonna be honest, a show is meant to have these types of events but Oda has his way of making them seem so tragic when one piece is just a mirror of real life problems. I enjoy the show....these sad extreme events make it what it is. I'm human and I feel. if one does not appreciate how thoughtful everything is, what does he/she appreciate. All these characters, each with his or her definition of life.....each different. OOOOOH, i wish i could write for happy events but this is already way too long.
Great video. It's GOda at his finest. It's amazing how if we trace back were the origin for all the Water 7 and Enies Lobby arc is, it is in the not so popular Skypea arc. If the strawhats would have not gone to the Sky, Merry would have not been heavily damaged, and then everything that happened next would have not existed. How can Oda be that good?
This was great. We got to see them get Merry, see it go up reverse mountian , see it being beaten up and fixed up, and fly into the sky. The crew would call it by name most of the time. I was not sad when they decided to leave the ship at first as it was the obvious outcome. When it saved them and broke down midway I was stunned. Then when Luffy set it on fire was when, I knew it was time to truly say good bye to the Going Merry.
Almost nothing in One Piece has made me like, *cry*, even though every strawhat's backstory has some real emotional impact, I'm just not really a crier. But EVERY time I see Merry sailing away after iceberg fixes her, or when I see her saving the crew at enies lobby, heck even writing this, I immediately tear up. I love that sheep ship
I just seen it yesterday and aw man I guessed who that was in Skypia and when Franky said it was her I cried and when she went up in flames I cried so much more

When i try to convince my friends of how good One Piece is i always bring up the fact that Oda made me cry about a ship i think thats pretty significant since i dont cry that much but damn seeing the merry burn and knowing we wont see it again it was heartbreaking and in my opinion this just adds up to how good of a story One Piece is and how good of a storyteller Oda is One Piece is by far the best anime ive watched and ive watched a few none come close to One Piece in complexety or world building in my opinion its just that good
The part that saddens me is that a lot of people dont even wanna start watching it cause of the ammount of episodes it has but my argument to that is thats not a bad thing its a good one since One Piece is so good u have a lot of good experiences ahead of you.
Yeah. I hate when people hate one piece for being so long. You cant say something is bad if you're just lazy.
It doesn't even feel that long yo
Well it’s their loss
@@joshuaformalejo5259 True bro naruto fans dont realize that naruto ,shipuden and boruto is longer then one piece haha
@@saltations_ yup thats why ive seen it twice and im for sure going for a 3rd someday its just too good :D

I like how oda implied that the men just took dumps in the sea. Also, the fact that nami's tangerines always have fruits leaves me to believe that chopper has been doing some advanced fertilizing.
Not the intended takeaway of this video, but appreciated nonetheless
@@Ohara-the-Fox you could also argue that Oda really treats his characters as real people, he knows how their mannerisms work, even the small details about the Merry that never made it into the manga is fully realized. It reminds me of a Brandon Sanderson lecture where he talks about knowing your world and characters. It's like being the creator of a world but at the same time the author is a spectator documenting what is happening in the said world and seeing how the characters react. Now, the author's job is to present that world to the reader in a simple and interesting way.
Well, a Live Action series is on the way, so I'm definitely gonna see if they're going to include those never seen details!
Sunny just blow up by Orochi's bandits
@@francisdedumo3323 Back when I saw this scene in the manga I doubted that very much because of the big deal that Merrys death was.
NOT ONE PIECE RELATED BUT
My mentor in film making way back in highschool would often tell me to use this technique.
I'm 24 weeping watching this video
"Is filled to the brim with symbolism" missed a golden opportunity to say it has a boatload of symbolism.
Merry's funeral is worse than Ace's death, change my mind.
Jawad Assaher you cant change the truth smh
No need to change your mind bro
@@whoknows4039 there are people who claim to have felt nothing during the funeral
Well i thought luffys backstory with ace and sabo should've taken place between impel down and marineford. Because we knew next to nothing about ace until he was already dead.
@@pokekiller787x I cried regardless.
Why am I crying again😭😭
Cause you're reminded,a crew of the Straw hats died
Right there with you, Oda did a tremendous job!
The Going Merry funeral’s episode is the one that makes me cry the most in One Piece...
One more thing that help with the anrthropomorphism is how the straw hats always refer to it as if it were a person and treated it like one.
Without that arc , the klabautermann wouldnt exist, the feelings for Merry as a crew member wouldnt exist
Water 7 MADE people feel for her.
Lol
Yeah, I'm hardcore thumping the idea, but damnit, man.
I would have cried if this was a character Analysis video
i love the clear effort and passion you put into these videos, it oozes inspiration and ambition. incredible story telling and analysis absolutely beautiful. keep it up
Anyone else kinda bummed the sunny has no characterization? The strawhats haven't all been together since Zou and we never get to see them just hanging out together being themselves post timeskip.
My head-canon is that the sunny is almost just another extension of Franky, yet a being by itself taken care of by merry.
They had some moments with the sunny post wano but i prefer the slice of pirate life. Comedy and character driven drama lies at the heart of the show.
I cry every time Merry is mentioned.
sometimes i still watch reactions about the death of Mary and every time i still cry, it is that good
You're just pumping content in this quarantine at this point and I'm here for it.
Out of everything in this scene, the one thing that *really* pulls my heartstrings, is that goddamn music. This very track, 'Mother Sea', played at the very beginning of the anime too, for shu shu defending his dead master's home.. this track never stops bringing tears to my eyes.
Especially with the reprise of "We Are" in the background
@@connorthornberg Yeah, *especially* the slowed down, more solemn version of *we are* 😢
I’d also like to point out that relationships like developing between sailors and their ships are fairly common.
I nearly began crying watching this video. So many memories.
Whenever I feel like having a good cry, I'll just watch Merry's funeral. I even teared up watching the clips from this video :'(
I am not ashamed to admit that this video made me cry. Rest in peace, Mary, you are missed.
Your such a great youtuber. Love watching your analysis videos.
This was a most informative video you've done here friend, I've learned so much just by watching this. Thanks for your hard work and sharing it
Jimbe will finally be a crew member that makes it so the SHcrew doesn’t depend on luck getting from island to island.
But I have say it was not until its final voyage that everything Merry was became more emotional impact
a Past vehichle that started the journey would in the end be the Smile for tommorow that carries the Sun which inherit its dream
As a Star Trek fan to begin with I always felt as much love for the original U.S.S.
Till THIS DAY, I cry whenever I watch the full Viking Funeral for the Going Merry.

I appreciate your kind words! 🧡
finally had the time to check it out thx for letting me know that it exists. :D
You really did justice to this great ship.
Damn onions! Popping up every time I see the merry funeral scene.
How could you be able to make me cry again?
Oh man, I cry everytime i remember this scene...
I am so glad you made this video!!
I remember When I first saw Marry's funeral I was home alone because my sister was in the hospital and I cried like a bitch
Keep making videos, you make amazing content, your amazing person. Love videos like this.
Great video!! Watching this video reminded me of how much I love the Going Merry and much it hurt when she past on!! MERRRYY!!!
First scene to ever make me cry
In fact it’s the only one to actually make me cry I usually just feel sad for certain scenes but this one had me tearing up
It’s heart touching/breaking when the Merry comes to the rescue of the crew even when she is cast off to die she still was there for them at the very end of her life
I cried way more when they bid farewell to the Going Merry than Ace's death.
This video is so well done. In every way. Thank youuu. Pls make more! 🙏❤
i cried more during merry's funeral than ace's death. felt that merry didn't deserve to die so early.
this maybe the most heart warming anime scene I've ever scene , Oda is one great story teller portraying a ship to having a soul because its crewmates put so much love for her, and the funeral scene Luffy apologizing to merry is one of the saddest moments in One Piece.
Ohara after seeing all ur analysis i want see ur own story in future
The Going Merry is the one thing in fiction that if I begin to think about, I begin to cry
this is the only scene(among all other anime) I wasn't able to hold my tears, I mean literally crying and choking damn
It is physically impossible for me not to cry when thinking about The Going Merry
Merry’s farewell makes me cry every time I watch and read it😭❤️
I’d love to see you analyze Bellamy. I know dresrosa is behind us but his development was something to behold
As usual, another amazing vid
"Anthropomorphism is popular these days"
These days? Lafontaine's fables and the epic of gilgamesh would say it always has been.
Just watching this made me cry again

Skipped up to Enies Lobby recently to reread One peice and even without re reading everything. Merry's death is a fucking tearjerker
