I'm not a big hockey fan, but hockey is a big deal in Czechia/Czech Republic, and in Slovakia as well. It's an amazing place to live, mainly because it's mellow. One of the things that didn't get covered in the video here is the Czech sense of humor; Czech humor is very dry and witty with a focus on either irony or amazingly precise, intelligent, multi-level sarcasm. Overall, Czechia/Czech Republic is one of the best places to live. I lived there for a short time, and within minutes of returning to the USA, I'd realized just how big a mistake I'd made.
Czechs usually lose to Canada in hockey. Still, being a counrty of around 10 million people, we are very good at hockey and we are very proud of our team. We constantly end in the top 4. Last year we ended up in third place after beating the US team.

In Poland we find their language hilarious - like toddlers with speach defect (polish sounds same to them), we jokingly call them pepiki (comes from their version of name John and sounds adorable). Three of their most known songs: Helena Vondráčková - Malovaný džbánku (1974; musical/pop/jazz dunno what genre it is) ; Antonín Dvořák: Symphony No. 9 "From the New World" (classical romantic, you probably know it) & Ivan Mládek - Józek z bagien (meme song)
I have a great anecdote about the funny sounding Polish language - I've been hiking in Karkonosze with my 10yo son (both Pepiki) and there was a Polish hiker greeting my son with usual "Dzien dobry" and my little one who never heard the language before went "Whaaaat?" with an utterly suspicious look 😂 the guy was laughing his ass off for the next 10 minutes
Well, the Polish sounds funny to Czechs too. Especially when they say: "Szukam dzieci w sklepie." which in Czech means "I am f**king children it the cellar". The languages are similar, but there is a lot of "false friends"(same sounding words with different meaning). And you know what people from poland are known for? Bolek and Lolek, Four from tank and the dog, technical/road salt in the food, salmonela in the chicken meat, Turow mine stealing underground water from Czech wells and the smog(polluted air) going from polish part of Silesia to most of Moravia thanks to north to south winds (mainly in winter) But overall you are mostly good neighbours, though our farmers hate you (you're underselling them).
The hockey world championship is taking place right now. Perhaps see you in the final, Canada. One of the most memorable matches to me - the 1998 Olympics semi final, CZE x CAN though, as we watched it in school. A few classes huddled together watching a very small tv. :-)
Ice hockey is a big deal here (imagine a big event like your Super Bowl but with ice hockey and Czechs :D my whole family gets together and we watch it), very proud of our team. I used to play ice hockey when I was a little girl after my parent taught me to skate when I was 4, fun, that's how I lost some of my baby teeth and why I have a scar on my chin :D

Americans had low grade copy of our Budvar called Budweiser (original Budvar beer you can buy as Czechwar I think). And our scientist and doctor Jánský even discover blood groups before everyone else. We had our own sence for humor (but is very simillar to british comedy) and terrible traffic in bigger citties... You can ask "Acting Reichs Protector" Reinhard Heydrich he found himself that driving aroud Prague in car is a "ride for life" somedays and it was in 1942! And thats a minimum things I can say so by from South Bohemia from town with two big beer breweries (Budvar and Samson) and come to enjoy our nice land (but not Prague... Pragers are insane :-D )

Hockey is the most popular sport clearly in Canada and Finland. They’re the two countres where it’s a clear number one sport. But I guess Czechia is close there too. Then it’s second or third most popular sport in Russia, Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland. In the US it’s like fifth or sixth most popular, right?
Btw about the hockey Czechia has as the only country in the whole world ( not just America ) gained so called a golden hattric in the end of the Millenium... however in last decade unfortunatelly we slighly suck ....
there is an ice hockey world championships going on right now and you're right Canada is the team with the most medals but russia and the czech republic are closely behind them. in the 1995-2005 era czechia was an ice hockey powerhouse and czechs absolutely dominated ice hockey championships and even the nhl but the quality fell off a little bit in last decade. Slovaks also hold their own and in the year 2000 Czechs and Slovaks played each other in the final taking both silver and gold medal many people here joke about the split of our countries saying the reason was to win more medals at ice hockey championships :D and people in general love ice hockey here when we won the gold medal at the 1998 winter olympics the main square in our capital prague was filled full with people celebrating together.
