@@maffieduran but they’re literally right? us black and brown girls have been contouring our lips since forever, even if we didn’t explicitly call it that. they’re calling it the right technical term.

@@Ishouldnthavebeensopublic what? you’re calling it contour because it’s adding depth and shadows to your lip. that’s the definition of contour. even if you took a dark pink lip liner with a light pink lipstick, you’re still adding shadows in that particular tone. it being brown has nothing to do with it being a contouring technique. i personally haven’t seen anybody pretend that this is some new trick because makeup artists of all races know this is like, the basics of makeup. but if there are people pretending they invented it then that’s obviously not right
@@yoshita4140 i mean really the thing is darker skinned people tend to have hyper pigmented lips, so using a pink thats the shade of their lips in the center doesnt work for the entire thing since the outer part is usually darker. contouring is usually to add depth as in like dimension, 3D. On women of color it can be to add depth, but its usually just to match the natural gradient our lips already have.

Buy different matte deep brown lipsticks and use them as liners or to tone down lip colours. The edges of the stick work well enough as an fine edge if you can't find a good enough lip liner. Try gel eyeliners too. Their consistency works quite well. This is more of an option though, when you're in a pickle x
@@kikilee7162There weren’t always a range of colors that looked good on darker skin tones or darker lips (and maybe very pale skin tones and lips??). Decades ago (and probably in more recent years), some people HAD to get creative with tips like these because that’s the only way they could get a good lip shade. People of other complexions did it too because they liked the look, but they didn’t HAVE to do it sinc they had so many other options (for lip shades and lip liner shades). I lived through it, and I lived in a metropolitan area, so access wasn’t the issue. Makeup was made for people in a specific skin tone range, and everyone else just had to make it work or look a little “off” because the shade just wasn’t right for them. The internet wasn’t a thing, so there were no beauty gurus making a ton of free beauty tutorials either. 😂
Ali andrea is a professional makeup artist and she probably knew it before 😄 but she is teaching her fallowers. I personally always had two nude lipliner darker than my lips to adjust lighter lipsticks and a lighter nude one to combine the color with a lipstick that is a bit too brown for me. I always preferred mixing the color of the lipstick and the lipliner and blending it at the end with my fingers.
Mhmm one of the first makeup tricks I ever learned, well that and using a dry q-tip for mascara smudges Anyway brown lip liner really is your bestie, it’s the base of literally all of my lip combos

There are SOOO many women all over the world with pigmented lips! Pinks aren't "natural" for everyone. Of course most colors aren't going to look right on us without that blessed brown liner to bring back our natural lip definition.

Yes I'm brown not black and this is the only reason I didn't impusivly through out all my nude lippes like I used to. Fun fact this is also why the lip trend use whatever yous do for your brown to line ur lips and whatever you use for blusb in the center... works for eyebruone
