When I woke up this morning I had no idea what an Ostracod was or that they even existed. Several hours later, after collecting some water from my rain bin and actually looking at it before watering my terrarium, I now have my first Ostracod culture...endless fascination and mystery in this wonderful world. Thanks for the inspiration.

I found ostracods in a flooded foundation. They are orange and quite large, about 2-3 mm. And this is very strange, but they do not eat vegetables and fruits, but only meat and boiled eggs.

Great video! I have a question, do ostracod cultures last forever?

Yes it will, if there is a steady supply of food and oxygen and water of course. You can feed them about anything other than large amounts of meat. Meat rots quite fast and the whole culture will probably collapse and stink before consuming the meat.

I had a good colony going for about a year. Collected them from a ditch in front of my house. Posted a vid right before new kitty decided she was going to knock them off of the window sill where they sat.....
    Yeah...

I also have a cat named Mike; I always close the door every time I finished working in that room to prevent accidents like that

Does neocaridina shrimp food will do?

I’m pretty sure that will do. These creatures devour everything!

Do they poop and if they do, do you need to clean their poops?

Their poops aren't gonna impact your aquarium much. They are great for fertilising your plants!
