    Love my old Engel 45-pre digital readout- its been running for 19years 24/7 in the back of 4wds and still going.

      Its not uncommon to hear this @Reno, Engels definitely last the distance.

      The old Engels were very reliable . I bought a MTV 80 litre combi and it ran perfectly for 3 years then it died luckily it was under warranty and was fixed and back to me in a little over a week. Although my 30 yr old Engel is still in my vehicle and never missed a beat all these years. I guess they don't make them like they used to

    Does the lid on the MTV and the MT series come complete off (slide off the hinges)? I'm interested to see if this is a feature it has for applications where there isn't enough room to open the lid completely upwards in the intended orientation.

    • @SnowysOutdoors
      @SnowysOutdoors  4 года назад +1

      The old versions used to slide off, Guarav, but the new ones are fixed on.
      However, even though the old ones slid off, it was awkward to get them back on as you had to line the pins up and tap it until it lined up, and you wouldn't want to be doing this all the time.

      Maybe they only produced them for the Australian market, Voltron512. There isn't a lot of upgrades in the new version, the old ones are still an awesome fridge. ~ Ben

    I can pick up the older model on special for 550 less than the newer model. Both new. Which one would you pick? Five years warranty over the older model of three years is good addition, but damn, 550 more. The price of a new Kings 60L

    • @SnowysOutdoors
      @SnowysOutdoors  4 года назад +1

      The old version is a bargain then, Carl, unless you are sold on the upgrades on the new model. Reliability and performance is the same, and most Engels report decades of use making the difference between a 3 and 5 year warranty negligible, so I'd snap that deal up while it's still available. ~ Ben

      @Naessey 4 года назад

      Snowys Outdoors Thanks Ben. I ended up getting a brand new Waeco 50L for 595. It was smaller and lighter and came with cover and extended warranty for five years. Thanks for getting back to me.

    How do these slight changes justify a $450 price increase? (60L)

    • @SnowysOutdoors
      @SnowysOutdoors  5 лет назад +6

      We aren't the manufacturers, so can't comment on the costs involved in these upgrades sorry, Driftf0rlife, we just offer the fridges at the best price we can based on what we buy it for at the time. I also believe that the prices we had recently on the old model were there to clear the stock out, and inevitably, when a new or upgraded model initially hits the market, it is almost always at a higher price. ~ Ben

      @@SnowysOutdoors I understand that but I'm guessing you have some form of contact with a representative from Engel? Surely the question can be asked so you can pass it onto your customers.

      Not so much a matter of 'can't', its just the Engel style - just like your fridge at home.

    PAUSED 28 seconds in. I AM SUPER IMPRESSED with the style and presentation of your video. You ACTUALLY show the fridges and don't waste my time with drivel that I didn't come here to hear; no damn preaching and you got all the fridges right there and showing THEM NOT YOUR MUGSHOTS and poses!!! 2:20 you opened the fridge to show us inside long enough to even get an idea of how deep it is. I know, seems logical and common sense, but damn common sense never was common!

  • @Dwolfson22

    CAn you describe the light on these two models more in detail? Is the light on the platinum model always on? Can you toggle it off? Why on earth would Engel make a light stay on all the time, if that is indeed what you're implying in this video!!

    • @SnowysOutdoors
      @SnowysOutdoors  4 года назад

      I believe the light was always on in the old version of these fridges, Derek. The current draw of a single led light is minuscule though so would have little impact on power draw. The new ones use a reed switch which is switched on and off with a magnet, so somewhere in the body of the new models is a magnet that breaks the light circuit when the lid is closed.
      I hope that makes sense.

      engels make a very quiet hum, not an offensive noise at all. what can make them seem noisy is having something packed inside in a way that rattles, like a bottle on it's side just barely touching another bottle. that sort of rattle is not unique to just engels though.
