Born and raised over in Moline, moved to Davenport over six years ago. There's some potential for the QC to grow but not with the elected officials we have in there atm. They are incompetent and do nothing for the city

Silvis is nice. That along with coal valley are the best option in the Illinois side.

I live here. I hate it here. The downtown is run down and beaten to death. West end businesses are failing and I am sure my shop job will not last another 2 years. The people are overall terrible in most cases. Snow isn't that hard to drive in. The sub zero sucks with 30MPH winds. If you drive around you will see several homes that are being lived in but should been torn down. We only got Mediacom, Century Link, Metronet is slowly rolling out they are not in more private areas. Century Link top speed is about 1.5 mbps. There is nothing fun to do here.

It's not the snow. It's the brutal two or three weeks of subzero temps with 30 mph winds. Twenty eight degrees and 12" of snow is easy.

I’m across the river in Rock Island but work in Davenport. Getting close to finally getting to move away from here. It’s not a horrible area but I’m definitely over all of the sameness. It’s been a pretty great place to raise our kids but now that they are grown it’s time to move on.

Born and raised. The quad cities can be nice but gangs and crime are a problem. Weather can be tolerated. I enjoy the river front. Someone else said boring...thats true.

@@jharris3840 the gangs that shot and killed Dominic Chamberlain as he and my sister were walking down sidewalk. Thought he was someone else. They call it little chicago for a reason. Still a decent place to live. Just stating some areas are dangerous. The title is "dont move to davenport unless you can handle"... lad

Here are the reasons I left Davenport after 50 years of living there. 1-The city government doesn't work to improve the infrastructure. The streets are horrible, the sewer pipes haven't been replaced in 50+ years in some areas and the downtown is littered with abandoned or derelict buildings. 2- The disaster of the Davenport Hotel Apartments collapse and how the elected officials refused to acknowledge their failure in preventing it. 3- The violent crimes and the gangs are out of control. The police aren't quick to respond unless the problems are in the nicer areas or at the mall. Areas that are south of Locust Street hear gunshots a lot of the time, but the police rarely respond. 4- Homelessness and panhandling are problems throughout the city. I understand that every city has its share of homeless communities, but I don't see the panhandling in the other cities the way that I see in Davenport. My advice would be to look at the surrounding cities and towns if you're moving to the QCA.

Why do the people of Davenport keep electing and reelecting fiscally irresponsible people? The city is run by a good ole boy program; the city council and mayor are a joke. Taxes and fees are ridiculous. The condition of the streets is disgraceful. The city could be so much more dynamic, too bad the leadership isn't. We prefer living outside of Davenport, a city where we were born and raised. For us, smaller town, rural , is a better deal. Love the baseball in summer and the hockey in the winter.

Sounds like big city problems in a small city, with similar solutions: move to the burbs. But the city then just gets worse.

Like even most larger cities here in Iowa they seem to elect democrats to the higher positions. The police chief most times are Republicans. There is a saying about davenport and it's police force And that is you have to be utterly stupid or speeding while drunk at 3 am to get noticed by them. Here in bettendorf if you are out past 9 pm you might gain the police attention right away.
