@jeevcy The ball becomes dead the moment it hits the helmet. The question is than if the the players already crossed or not the moment the ball hits the helmet. If they did not cross they would get 2 of the bat + 5 penalty runs, if they did cross it would be 3 of the bat + 5 penalty runs. no matter what happens with the ball after it hit the helmet it becomes dead. It also means that at that point no run outs or "boundery overhrows" could happen.
@NeoNeke no it doesnt, if the ball hits the helmet and continue on it course and makes it to the boundary it is still consider 5 + 4 runs, the ball only becomes dead at two stages, once the keeper has caught and realised the ball, or if the ball was not completed properly they are the only two times a ball is consider dead!
@ vimztheman, in the case, the umpire decides whether the bowler had control of the ball after he had stopped it. it he throws the ball after gaining control, it's an overthrow, if he misfields without gaining control of the ball then it;s just four.
@sauzer65 And what about the time a catch is made, what about the time a wicket gets bowled over,... there is a huge list of instances the ball becomes dead. Here is the excerpt from the laws: Law 41.3 ...and the ball while in play strikes it, the ball shall become dead, and 5 penalty runs shall then be awarded to the batting side... Law 23 - Dead Ball even mentions the above rule and and gives a full list of instances the ball becomes dead and that NO further runs can be scored.
hey, if they had run 3 and the misfield resulted in the ball going to the fence in the same direction, it would be counted as a 4 and nothing more, in my opinion, the rule should be changed, once the ball crosses the boundary ropes regardless of how many the batsmen have run, it should count as 4. Thus no overthrow to a boundary should count for more than 4 runs. ICC needs to change this.
@TheQuintin123456; that ball had not crossed boundary first time, i see wht you mean about runs being counted even if ball crossed the rope but this time it is was an overthrow
I see your point but I disagree. The fielding team must take responsibility for their actions upon the return of the ball, otherwise you would have every fielder in the world taking shots at the stumps knowing that the penalty for nobody backing up would result in a small penalty, if any at all.
If they ran another run in the time the over-throw ball reaches the boundary, that run also counts right? So, they could have at least made it 8 by running another single after the over-throw.
@cakes181286 No hoggard threw it to KP, who then went to throw it to Jones behind the stumps, but in his arrogance, threw the ball at the stumps, for no real reason, missed the lot and it went to the ropes. The stumps were not touched
that made my day. not only do you insult people with some pretty mean words, you're completely and utterly wrong, rofl. Yes, actually rofl. The ashes are held in England every four years, and in Australia every four years. So.. 2003 Australia host 2005 England host 2007 Aus 2009 Eng Get me? (Though I suppose not many of us Englishmen give a shit about the Aus ones, we lose them usually)
if you look at it..it probably would've been better if pietersen would've just relaxed and let that one go for a four..instead of running and fielding it!!
i do remember nixon playing the ODIs but im pretty sure jones played all the tests (jones is the keeper in this vid) . ... if only somebody in england liked chris read... sigh...
no you fool, thats so wrong! read the rules again, if the fielder commits the act of returning the ball to the wicket keeper or bowler, and they create an opportunity for more runs, the runs shall be added on top of the runs currently scored at the time the ball reached the wicketkeeper/bowler
what a bad nightmare it was for England fans & supporters to see their team gettin whitewashed like this...after all the glory of 2005! i guess absence of Tres, Vaughny & Simon Jones did them in. Also bad form of Harmy.
Awesome! I love to see lots of runs from one ball! Lots of birds on the pitch!
Hey
i love Flintoff's reaction! Says it all "Aw fuck."
240p, we meet again
that summed up the England's agony in 2007 Ashes!!!!
Look at the faces of Flintoff, Pietersen they are shattered...
RUclips recommend this to me after 16 years later

Got to laugh at freddie's face when it goes over the boundary!
He changed his name from Andrew.
15years old comment

He may be dead now.😢
thats one funny incident!! lol
i didnt think geraint jones was playong that series (correct me if im wrong), i remember that tosser Paul Nixon though
Super
The cameramen are true psychologists here... They knew whom to focus when...
I thought that it only can happened when kamran akmal was keeping...
well done you broke my speakers
gud video..nice attempt

Wowwwwwwwwww it great
@scorpions411 its called overthrows, they get the runs they ran + the boundary.
such brilliant keeping.

I agree. We should give up cricket. That way you'll never get the Ashes back.
lol.
in an overthrow you get the runs you ran before the throw passed the pitch as well.
Incredible

@jeevcy wrong sir, if the ball hits the helmet, its a dead ball.
Shows that Kevin Pietersen was a hot head. wonder if captancy has mellowed him out a little?
I remember that - Ashes 2006/2007
Shit man, even if I was playing my village side and that happened, I would be pretty fucking outraged!
I see your point but I disagree. The fielding team must take responsibility for their actions upon the return of the ball, otherwise you would have every fielder in the world taking shots at the stumps knowing that the penalty for nobody backing up would result in a small penalty, if any at all.
your the culprit! the cost your team the game
:)
first time I saw that :O
How are you so sure it ACTUALLY HIT THE HELMET?
No, the next Ashes series is end of 2010/11 (18 months) in Austrailia then 2013 in England!!
that's why we are great - we are indians
If they ran another run in the time the over-throw ball reaches the boundary, that run also counts right? So, they could have at least made it 8 by running another single after the over-throw.
No only 4 will be considered...that single will not be counted
come and live in Australia... it's not too late!
Poms at their best, throwing the ball somewhere irrelevant
@cakes181286 No hoggard threw it to KP, who then went to throw it to Jones behind the stumps, but in his arrogance, threw the ball at the stumps, for no real reason, missed the lot and it went to the ropes. The stumps were not touched
@nospeedlimHN you cant get rid of the birds. they just come back
Wrong, the batsmen gets the entire 7 runs added to his name. Not sundries
it is one of the amazing things of cricket
We spanked those Aussies last year though didn't we :D
2-1.
That's a series win.
That's a spanking in my book.
End of.
yeah the throw didn't help from pietersen did it?
a nice half volley is always good.. :P
ahh
oke got that
@abyz1256 LOL, I guess technically England lasted longer than Australia.
Why are there birds on the field??
@19raghu Good point.. just... well. I can't really explain it's just... Really disappointing. Nothing really gives me any confidence that we'll do ok.
@TheQuintin123456 only on overthrows, If a batter hits a 4, any running doesn't count
@utkarshverma013 he gets 7 because the 3 runs ran b4 the overthrow are added onto the 4
does anyone know, if they had run 3 and then it was thrown in and hit the helmet, would it have been 8?
Only it wasn't Pietersen.
Only England could do that. I'm losing faith in everything to do with my country.
@bridgie1991 umm... why are u saying this when all those guys apart from Ponting have retired
Good old England.
Why there's no recent comment... everything is atleast a decade old
Let me just put a comment on it before it goes viral
that made my day. not only do you insult people with some pretty mean words, you're completely and utterly wrong, rofl.
Yes, actually rofl.
The ashes are held in England every four years, and in Australia every four years.
So..
2003 Australia host
2005 England host
2007 Aus
2009 Eng
Get me?
(Though I suppose not many of us Englishmen give a shit about the Aus ones, we lose them usually)
all runs go towards batsman
that is, against flintoff
if you look at it..it probably would've been better if pietersen would've just relaxed and let that one go for a four..instead of running and fielding it!!
@jeevcy THAT would be hilarious
its every 2 summers and cus aussies summer is our winter its year and half
Don't they need to get rid of all the birds?
sorry you had to win the final test to take top spot. and we are the only ones that can win it now. :D get your facts right
That's kind of the point.
Andrew Symonds got an 8 against NZ at the GABBA, 4 all run then 4 over throws, go kiwi
what the fu*k are birds doing there?
i thougt the runs dont count if the ball pass the boundery
So Ricky can wait,
Shane Warne is too late and there's no Glenn McGrath,
Gilchrist's had his day,
And don't look back to Langer,
He cannot play.
Well it is England playing against Australia, what do you expect? Lol
38 people who liked jeevcy dont know simple mathematics calculation!!
Ohh ohhh so sad bad time
MY ONLY EVER 6 SO FAR was a 2 then 4 over throws :D hahha
it can happen to anyone.....its wot the game is all about
Well, atleast were now no.1
NO. Thats 7. Overthrow+ runs ran will be counted.
🤣😂
unlucky Flinoff.
he held it in well as a captain should do.
professional bowler.
@jeevcy : no they would get 5 runs instead of 4... making it 8 runs in 1 ball
mate they ran the first three
@brittanymaywelsh1 then y did we win ashes and it not odi
how about a 5-0 whitewash of an ashes series instead?
technically thats only 4 runs ??? how come?
i do remember nixon playing the ODIs but im pretty sure jones played all the tests (jones is the keeper in this vid) . ... if only somebody in england liked chris read... sigh...
@coolkieran ran 3, 4 overthrows = 7 runs one ball
GOTTA LOVE ENGLAND Hahhaahahahahahahahahahahahahah
yes the birds did the trick
Koi v bhai y batey ki over throw p batsman ko run milta h ya nhi
yes milta ha
itttt
could have been 8 .. had that hit the helmet
no you fool, thats so wrong!
read the rules again, if the fielder commits the act of returning the ball to the wicket keeper or bowler, and they create an opportunity for more runs, the runs shall be added on top of the runs currently scored at the time the ball reached the wicketkeeper/bowler
it happens all the time, so? Its called OVERTHROWS. Go look it up.
what a bad nightmare it was for England fans & supporters to see their team gettin whitewashed like this...after all the glory of 2005!
i guess absence of Tres, Vaughny & Simon Jones did them in. Also bad form of Harmy.
his technicality is messed up i guess. :)
Hahahahahhahahaa
ha ha ha
E9 ? E6 ? Way to many errors---> Back to the minor leagues !! ☻
unlucky
@utkarshverma013 you get 7 runs for that...
