Great breakdown of the 3. Most of us don't feel like buying all 3 just to figure out which one we like. For me heavier is usually better. I tried it when I used to throw around 2012 and I got to admit my knives and spikes stuck a lot more ,didn't get half as many bounce outs.
Yes, I do! Wetting the endgrain helps target longevity-- the fibers will "broom out" rather than splinter and crack. I think logically, a wetter wooden target should help with getting sticks, but I haven't tested it.

I just went on Amazon and searched "no spin throwing knives" and there are a lot of slim designs that I like and at a good price, but I don't know about the quality. Acejet on Amazon has throwing knives recommended by Adam Celadin and they look like good quality knives. Mass produced, cheaper knives that I also like is Cold Steel's 12" Sure Flight. They work well for no spin and traditional throwing. Hope that helps!
Here throw grip teaching plum yok throw that is side trigger under hand grip discard grip that is back handed these methods i use in ninjutsu if have video how make folding shuriken i watch
I think your mixing up your names there, or animes are...as far as I recall hira are the flats with concave edges. Anyway, that was quite informative. I would want to try either sharpening them to a thinner taper, or drilling out a larger centre hole in those heavy ones. Looks fun all around tho.
I call them Hira Shuriken because that's the name Sharp Blades gave them. I think a more accurate name is Yagyu Juji shuriken-- and if I remember what I read correctly, the name comes from the school that uses them. But that's a good point about the heavy ones. I think it would fare better with a thinner taper!
I love your videos I can’t believe I stumbled on them so late do you know any knife makers that are still around I tried looking up flying steel and I guess he doesn’t make anything anymore I wish I could get a kunai 😭 I hope to talk to you one day and I’ll keep watching thanks for sharing so much knowledge
Ah, I didn't know Flying Steel is no longer available! How sad! I haven't bought any custom knives recently, but I did like AceJet's store on Amazon. www.amazon.com/stores/AceJet/AceJet/page/6C145C61-4E47-46B6-8C50-6FEA8925765B. Also if you look up "no spin throwing knives" on Etsy maybe you can find a knife maker in the US. The Iron Tear throwing knives from NobodyKnifeworks look pretty sweet. Hope that helps!
Yeah lol I wish I found you earlier and thanks for responding I’ll definitely check out the link and save up I’d love to find some shuriken and would you happen to know where I can find some kunai too
Is shuriken an easier way to get started into throwing? I have tried with knives and hawks but had little luck. The estwing camp ax I've probably done the best with but distance is critical, at least for me.
Oh, with shuriken you don't need to worry about distance and distance can be critical for traditional spin throwing-- particularly with axes because, depending on the design, it has to hit at the right point for a stick. Some knives, for example have a narrow enough point that it can stick at various angles. That's why I got my daughter started on these. Ninja stars that are bigger and heavier are one of the best tools, I think, for getting beginners into throwing. Maybe when I start getting her into actual knife throwing, I'll post a video on it... we'll see!
@@Xolette I appreciate the reply, I think I'll order some of the medium weight cold steel shuriken and make a good target. I remember the bladed broad did a video on how to make a good target a few years back.
Yes, she did! I filmed myself making the target in this video and I came across a lot of issues I didn't forsee-- mostly with the stand it's on, but I worked through it. I hope to edit it when I have no other knife throwing projects ahead. But, in case you're wondering, one target takes about 2 to 3 2x4's, glued the blocks together, then placed in a frame with a plywood backboard. I don't think the threaded rods are necessary... but you should account for the wood to shrink so the frame might need adjustments down the line. But, you can now purchase end grain targets online. I looked up "knife throwing end grain target" on Amazon and there's "LJ's Log Targets" and "Acejet Wooden Target board" that looks pretty good.
Nice video Xolette. If you ever do another knife-throwing video, can you have your throwing knife pouch attached to your lower back so it'll be like you're pulling knives from behind your back and throwing them? Kind of like how some anime characters pull their throwing weapons out of nowhere by reaching behind their backs. What do you think?
I tried putting that pouch on my back like in Naruto, but it doesn't really make sense ergnomically to have it back there. It just makes it slower when reaching for the shuriken because you can't see and have to go around your back to get them. But having them come out from there would probably look cool!

@@Xolette Whats the thickness of each one? does it say or can you measure them? Looking forward to the next installment
@@8thsinner I did some digging, and websites list the light at 2 mm, medium as 4 mm, and heavy at 6 mm. Hope that helps!
@@Xolette Thanks
the medium are definitely my jam.
Yes! Thank you for your input, by the way!!
Yeah lol I wish I found you earlier and thanks for responding I’ll definitely check out the link and save up I’d love to find some shuriken and would you happen to know where I can find some kunai too
@@Xolette❤
Cool 🙂, thank u 👍🍀
Welcome!
@@Xolette that's good to know, sometimes the cost of materials is more then the finished product.
Great video ❤
Nice video Xolette. If you ever do another knife-throwing video, can you have your throwing knife pouch attached to your lower back so it'll be like you're pulling knives from behind your back and throwing them? Kind of like how some anime characters pull their throwing weapons out of nowhere by reaching behind their backs. What do you think?
I tried putting that pouch on my back like in Naruto, but it doesn't really make sense ergnomically to have it back there. It just makes it slower when reaching for the shuriken because you can't see and have to go around your back to get them. But having them come out from there would probably look cool!
They should hit horizontally . I know ! it's just something that needs to be worked on also 👍👍👍👍
The Old blind Master in Kung Fu is a fun example .
I do like sidearm throws-- reverse side arm is difficult though!
Where have you gone
I'm a busy mom with sick dogs and moving soon! It's hard to have time to edit!
@@XoletteLife Oh no! I hope Charlie’s okay 😢
@@GovtWatchdog Aw, you recognized Charlie! He stopped wanting to eat at the beginning of this year and a few months later died due to an aggressive cancer. It broke my heart. :( But it makes me happy that you remembered him!
We recently adopted a dog that died after 3 weeks because it had distemper. And then adopted another dog shortly after and she seems like she's doing much better health-wise, but isn't 100 percent. But yeah, a lot going on here!
@@XoletteLife I’m so sorry about Charlie and the other dog that died :..( I remember awhile back you told me that you picked up Charlie as a stray at the school you worked at, so I love knowing that he found a good, loving home.
Moving sucks as I’m sure you know by now and so I feel for you and Jon. Try your best to not get overwhelmed and we will all patiently wait for you to post again.
@@GovtWatchdog Aw, thank you for the kind words!
Medium seems better, gonna try those.
Excellent!
I love her videos.
Thank you!
Very nice!
Dearest one are you still active on RUclips? Let us know, thanks....
I recently moved and it's been hard to get any extra time to make videos. But when I am inspired, I will make one!
@@Xolette Thanks for the update... I fully understand, life happens, so I feel ya there... I hope you get inspired soon, I miss your content... Enjoy your Holidays Lovely Lady...

Haven’t seen you for quite awhile….❤️
Looks like you got competition 😂
Haha, definitely!
Did that suriken hit your neighbors house?!? Yikes! I hope I saw that wrong but if not Im glad no one was outside!
The gate behind my target is my front yard gate, and it's more than 10 m away!

To not make mistakes just throw downward 😂

Did you know about this?
ruclips.net/video/7qGF8U6e340/видео.html
I only just came across that tonight, trying to decide between the swiss version and the aliexpress version...
Looks like a good bit of fun, but saw it and thought of your lil munchkin ninja, figured you both might enjoy...
Haha, thanks. It looks super cute! I'd go with the swiss version!
What about throwing just the heavys for like 10 minutes then switch to the lights just to get a resistance feel. I just know your daughter is going to look back on this vid in 10 years and cringe at the foam comment. Lol Her "throwers high" looked like a few of yours in the past and I can tell you saw the resemblance too standing there. 😁
I thought maybe because I was going from heavy to light, is why I missed the target? I'm not sure. :) Haha, she wants foam stars because she wants to throw stars at me and "battle". I did buy some rubber stars online for Christmas, so I might post a video on it!
Yeah, she definitely loves seeing her throws stick. It's almost like magic to her!
They have no point or edge 🤣 just thick arse shurikens
Who needs a special outfit, I’ll just throw in my pretty sweater.
Thanks for the review.
Little Ninja 🥷 is impressive
Haha! I thought about changing, but I liked what I was wearing and refused to change. :D I'll let my daughter know!
