Some additional information since some of you asked: -I shoot 90% of the time handheld. Makes me more agile and direct in movement. I am still moving around a lot - 120fps is making most shakes bearable -I shoot 90% of the time with the 35mm 1.8. Just ideal for portrait work and not cutting out to much environment. Got vintage lenses and will be using them a lot in future (Canon 50mm 1.4/Helios 55mm) -Low shutter transition tutorial coming in 2 weeks! -A tutorial how I color grade my videos: ruclips.net/video/_smapsmaelU/видео.html -How I setup the A7SIII for filmmaking: ruclips.net/video/cbrX8Xj7PhU/видео.html If you want to see a whole behind the scenes of a video portrait shooting let me know :)
aaaw man I was so hoping for techniques!! Like the slow shutter transitions, how you plan in camera transitions, how and when you use a gimbal, which lenses u usually prefer, the color masking and grading etc.. But this video is pretty helpful too, thanks!
Literally got recommended this video, glad it did. I just checked out your “portrait videos” and they’re freaking amazing. Like almost a bts of photo shoot but cinematic and the art itself. Love them and the audios you use!
Stunning work! I've only focussed on doing short video clips sometimes during a portrait shoot (since I focus on photos) but will definitely start doing more of these!
you bring some of the best video portraits we can find here! therefore, seeing you sharing a tutorial about the way you work is the best possible thing
I love watching your model portraits, thank you for making this. I plan to try more of these. The sample model message you shared didn't mention payment, can you help us understand model compensation and release details?
Hey man, I guess it is just collecting music and creating playlists on Spotify for every cinematic mood over the past years. I might make a video on that
Subscribed. Man I really like the video portraits and want to make a few myself. Based on being inspired by your Rachel video portrait. You did a really good job and I love your style/feel. Really good job man.
Hey! Danke dir! ✌🏻
Vielen Dank Max! It's nice to know a general aspect of your workflow on these (I know you aren't giving away all the "secret sauce" going on). Remember you are more than welcome to produce a set of portraits in Puerto Rico!
Hey, I have a question on the light on the face of your models do you use any reflection ? In particular when you’re shooting with the sun behind the model you nailed all these shots
Awesome, thanks. So you are shooting 1080 at 120fps most the time? Ive been a professional portrait shooter for 17 years now and Im looking to start doing more video as thats starting to take over. Im a Canon guy but Im debating between a Sony, Panasonic or a Fuji for video work.
Awesome video man. Really love your portrait videos. I was just wondering do you film all these in 120 then speed ramp to normal speed in some shot? Looking forward to seeing more videos
Love the work. Beautiful and inspiring. I had one question when you mentioned you bring along some music. How do you use that for inspiration when you’re shooting at 120fps? Wont the whole timing be off?
Hi Mabo, tooles Video. Ich brauche deinen Rat: Ist es möglich mit der A7 III 4k in Slow-Motion zu filmen? Sieht bei dir so aus. Beste Grüße aus Dresden Danke :)
Should we be worried about using music that not royalty free? Incase it goes viral and then risk lawsuits? Every time I have a vision of the end result video , it’s always with a song everyone knows and worry about getting sued. Any recommendation?
Awesome video MABO, really loved your insights and your thought process. Really liked how open you were with your approach to meeting models. Wanted to ask, do you keep your IBIS on or off when shooting? Regards, Prahlad
Ich hab dich zufällig gefunden und bin schwer begeistert..blos die Musik...wenn mir musik gefällt, die ich nutzen möchte, hab ich natürlich die Rechte nicht, wie machst Du das?

Hey Mabo, thanks for showing your process. Would love to see a behind the scenes on how you make these. Appreciate it.
Awesome video mate really helpful! Just wondering how much you rely on autofocus? I only shoot manual since AF on the GH5 isn't really that usable
Make it happen!

Hey, I have a question on the light on the face of your models do you use any reflection ? In particular when you’re shooting with the sun behind the model you nailed all these shots
I often raise my midtones in Post to make the face of the models brighter. No reflector used :)

Love the work. Beautiful and inspiring. I had one question when you mentioned you bring along some music. How do you use that for inspiration when you’re shooting at 120fps? Wont the whole timing be off?
Thanks for the video! A lot of your shots look soft and film like..Is that your preset or do you use filters eg. ProMist?
