I used to go on holiday to Llandudno several times a year with my mother and grandparents and I've been on these trams several times. This has made me feel all nostalgic. There have been a couple of fairly recent incidents, one in 2000 where 17 people were injured and one in 2009 where fortunately only one person was slightly hurt. The last was found to be down to worn out points and lack of regular checks on the system for faults.
The overhead cables are for communication only, trams are cable hauled (similar to San Francisco). The track sharing is because there are only two trams on each section (top and bottom).Passengers have to change at the halfway point.
The trams have overhead pickup, not in use. Are there sections that use overhead wires? There seems to be disused catenary around too. In places there is double track, but the trams seem to be sharing a track, and can't pass each other. Why this arrangement?
