I am a middle school computer teacher. In my classroom I have a corner of vintage technology that I use to display my plants. Yes, I’m a computer and a plant nerd! I have a retired overhead projector acting as a vining plant stand, and the head/neck works well as a climbing plant support. Old PC towers (vertical and horizontal) display various plants. I even have a stack of old informative VHS tapes about how computers work acting as a plant riser. This has been a fun/evolving area of my classroom that colleagues and students have contributed to. I’ve even been sharing my plant cuttings with students!
I love the stacked terracotta planters. I absolutely love when they get the patina on the outside! I've used wooden risers, wooden dowels hung from hooks in the ceiling in front of the window, I've also glued bowls end to end to get a cute stand/cover pot situation as well as height for those further back plants. I also love finding cute/weird stands/candle sticks to hold plants. I found a brass one with duck feet that was so randomly weird that I instantly bought it!
I know this is an older video of yours, but I did a creative thrifting project a few yrs ago. I took the base of a Futon. Then bought older candle holders and mismatched sheves and screwed them onto the wooden base. Stood it up like a door and filled with plants. It was awexome.
Cake stands work well, I also used a toilet paper dispenser, the kind that sits on the floor and holds like 3 rolls of TP stacked vertically, I just put a terracotta pot resting in the top circle and it's cute :)
Thank you for more display ideas! Yay! I live in a 12th floor small studio apartment (400 sqft w/47 plants) My absolute favorite is to display them on the top of a 3x3 (48”x48”) cubbie I use as a room divider. sticky pad screws on my windows (I removed all window coverings) to hold clear acrylic shelves, I propagate & grow small plants in the window shelves (4” & 6”). Galvanized pipes are crisscrossed all over just below the ceiling, plants are hanging all over. Instead of wood bookcases with backs I use metal mesh cubical grates and create shelves with zip ties, the plants appear to be floating. 2 of my windows have tension rods for my plants. Plants make me smile and it’s green and lush in here. 😊 Now, if I can figure out where to put a braided trunk Money Tree that’s 40” high w/a 40” round canopy I’ll be golden🌳🌴🌿🌱🌳🪴
@@yvonneuriarte2429 thank you Yvonne. I think my channel is up, I’ll try to upload this weekend or next. For some reason my plants keep outgrowing their pots. And I need to repot again.
I use a wide mouth solid colour vase, I just place a 4" nursery pot in it to give height. I also use short pillar candle stick holders to set a pot on.... Love your crate idea!
Hi Harli, I love all of your ideas!! I use the stacking clay pots a lot. I also stack the clay pots and use thrifted trays on top to sit several plants. And books, always put my favorite plants on top of my favorite plant books!!
Great video! I believe great minds think alike😝. I have used all your tricks except for the lamp display. I recently thrifted a small exoterra and had two single grow lights you stick into the soil. Didn’t have the built in shelf on the light so I drilled a hole near the back of a piece of wood as a base and it looks amazing. I also like to use candle pillars and clear glass candle jars as risers. I slather hot glue on the bottom of the glass and let it dry then place pot on top. This keeps it from moving around and it can be reused individually. I also use an old clothing rack for hanging plants. Old stools and benches are also used for a corner of floor plants and to allow my big viney babies to hang down and take center stage. A little off subject but I am not the biggest terracotta person but found several on a thrift and couldn’t resist the neutral brown color. I made self watering pots out of 2 of the 4 and love the look. I used the dollar store tall clear glass cylinders and a piece of macrame cord in the one with hole. The other without the hole I am just hoping the terra-cotta will wick enough water. Great little experiment and it fits my aesthetic ❤️. Your videos have made me brave enough to try new things. Thanks!
One idea I’ve run with is using old delivery boxes as risers for my plant shelves, I just cover them in dollar store contact paper to make them look a little more fun The box from one of my grow lights has been particularly helpful as it’s kind of long and slim - three plants sit on it at the back of a shelf 🙌🏾
Aawww...now i feel bad about all the boxes ive tossed out when i did spring cleaning. My husband does a lot of shopping online for his car parts and would keep all the boxes and one day I just had it and got rid of all of them to get back space...then decided I decorate the house with plants. There i was wondering how to level up my plants in the house. Thank you for sharing this idea, definitely will try this and recycle upcoming delivery boxes.
Love those ideas! 😁🥰 I have a coat rack that I painted copper(im addicted to copper. I think it's just so pretty.) and I have plants hanging from that with a coffee table underneath it for, yes, more plants 🤓😁🥰
Oh my gosh, this is my problem. I need a billion videos like this. I have a ton of plants but they are just kind of wherever around the house. I don’t get much sunlight and everything needs to be high in my house because of pets. I’d love to see a video specifically for ideas on how to keep plants and pets separate!
Absolutely amazing, sooo true I have got all these ideas done too. Everyone in my neighbourhood gets so amazed to see so much plants and flowers inside and outside of our house. Growing plants have great benefits especially on metal health and they do teach you patience as you see them growing just like your baby. Thanks Harli for sharing. ❤️🙏🏼
I never thought about the lamp and yeah i dont use 2 of them and you just gave me an idea where to put my pothos. The hanging plants by the window I just might do in our guestroom. I love all your suggestions!❤❤❤
Ciao from Italy 🇮🇹 👋🏼 Thanks for all the various options- love the lighting on s ingle beautiful plant and all the hanging options with the platter and curtain rod. Grazie 😊
I bought acrylic display stand on amazon to add different height for my smaller plant :) and another tips i use is to buy soap holder and towel holder at ikea that can stick on glass, so i can put it in my window!
@ home I love using a multi-tiered rolling cart this way I can reposition my plants according to the sun @ different times of the year (we have a lot of glass sliders) I also find it convenient in taking my plants in and out with ease and moving them to perfect locations on our deck.

Harli you fill me with so much joy! I loved this video! I especially needed it because I’ve run out of ways to display my plants and I just bought quite a few more last week because it’s my birthday in two days 😂
The cupboard grip roll stuff when cut down to size could be an easy noncommittal way to add stability! Learned that one because I absolutely had to put my water prop Orchid on a candle holder, promptly dropped the glass container; it shattered. But I'm stubborn so I remembered I had some left over somewhere in the house. The second time was the charm on that one!
Love these ideas! I did something similar to the stacking pots by repurposing some ceramic canisters I wasn’t using any longer. Took the lids off, flipped them upside down and put plants with length on them.

Run some solar fairy lights looping over your railing in the window as well, you get to enjoy the silhouette of your plants when the sun goes down.

I love tiered chunky candle holders and cake stands❤️
