- IAR-81C is a premium fighter aircraft in War Thunder. It has two well known to german players weapons: wfr.gr.21 rockets and Minengeschoß shells available to it's two 20mm autocannons.
(Plus the usual 250kg bomb)
The gameplay video shows usage of each of the weapons and tells more about the plane itself.

Have you seen any of those, huh? Instead you listed two fighters with no susps, fighter-bomber with best loadout bar premium being two pathetic 100kg and a line of medium bombers. Heck, 2001 CN with it's 250kg is better then any you've mentioned.

@@ImperialCataphract plane tech tree wont be a problem. Tanks: there are quite enough. I know there was some rimanian tank with the 105 mm gun from the stug 42, that would be fun. Or the panther. And in top tier there are TR 55, TR 75 and TR 85 with multiple versions. And there are also IFVs and armored cars.
I think there should be a central europian tech tree. That would be fun

Such a nice breakdown! I did not know this plane can carry rockets and that those rockets are effective. I was using Re.2001 with 2x100g and 1x250g combo up until 7.7

Sadly you missed to mention the best Plain of the Italian Airforce, the SM.91.
It´s a great Attacker, and due to it´s 6x100kg in combo with the good Airbreakes you are more then able to get Tanks.
Also 6xMG 151 in Central Mountet is just perfect.

You make great content, thanks for sharing! Still feeling the same way about Italian CAS? Looks like they added a 110 since then with wergers, and most the planes carry bombs, and have 151s. I see a lot of people using the sm90 and 91. I do love that IAR though. The G55 serie 0 has been good, been aiming to use the re 2001 Cb (2 100s and 1 250KG) or CN (1 250) as they are better turners than even the G55
the plane excels at low and mid alts, if you fight anything except a Zero or a Spitfire, you'll outmaneuver them if you know what you're doing. also don't do horizontal turns, vertical is the way to go, even if it loses speed fast, it will gain it fast due to the fact that most of the weight of the plane is in the nose, before I used it in Ground RB, I was always having 4-5 kills in air RB per 1 death or no death at all, having a K/D ratio of about 6.25. Of course, I didn't use any secondary payloads since I was using it as a pure fighter. the optimal altitude at which you should be is 2-3km, higher than that will make planes like spitfires outmaneuver you easily. Remember that it's a fighter meant for the Eastern Front so battles there were generally taking place at a lower altitude vs the Western Front (average 3,5km on the EF vs average 5,5km on the WF)

It has rockets now?! When I bought it last year to help boost my Italian air forces progress, the wing hardpoints were 100kg bombs! I'm definitely going to have to start using this in Ground too!
Just got this plane and got an ace game in it. Its manuverable if it has speed. But be warned it does not hold energy well and with its energy gone it loses manuverabillty. Its the type of plane vetran pilots will love and rookie pilots will tear out thier hair over.

pro tip: use tracer in small caliber , you can use them to line up your shots cus you can see them very easily , when lined up fire your 20mm's

A really nice plane, but i rather prefere the "Univeral" Belt for the Cannons because they have a higher amount of AP-I. With that you can even ignite Centurion Mk.3´s (basically every britisch vehicle).
Whats nice is that I don't have a problem turn fighting all until hurricane and spitfire

What most Warthunder youtubers completely miss about this plane, is how much better it does in SIM, vs. RB and arcade. In sim you are confined to the cockpit and don't have that bright red label attached to your plane. At it's battle rating, most fighters have bad bird cage cockpit, with poor visibility. The IAR has this amazing bubble canopy, that allows you to have much better situation awareness. great visibility, plus great weapons allows you to see and attack first and kill quick.
In the IAR. in RB i have about 350kills to around 27 deaths, so I barely break even. In sim I have right now 805 kills to 176 deaths.
I tend to go a while between times taking this plane out in ground RB... and always promptly ram it straight into the ground on my first dive.
The trick to use the rockets in Top Tier is to *not* hit the tank at all, but hit it near, so the explosion and shrapnel pennetrate the tank from the side/bottom.
The bomb cradle thing gets me EVERY FUCKING TIME.

try the Re.2002 early, it's got the 250 kg bomb and a pair of 100 kg bombs. oh and it's WAY more maneuvrable

Have to disagree on the maneuverability part. When not carrying bombs and rockets this thing can turn with almost anything, combat flaps are great on this thing and its defensive flying capability is awesome. I have managed to turn fight even spitfires in air RB. It's tricky to use but just my cup of cake.

The IAR is a great plane, in both Air and Tank RB. It's only downside is that it's quite slow
Its a british bomber camounflaged as a romanian fighter, no armor, no speed but large payload, we might have only made one plane... probably... but God we made a good one

i got this in warbonds shop for 2800 wb i think. Its as you said. the rockets are excellent. I only use the 3.3 strategic bomber in ground RB for fun because this is much better. In fact i have the bomber because i got this and the spitfire with warbonds.
I got this plane when they first added it. Have the nerfed it? I remember dog fighting a spitfire and not having a problem at all, it also has a bomb now?

This was my "goto" workhorse plane both in tank, and specially in naval battles , simply since there was no any other options back then. But i never liked this plane do to its underpowered engine, flight performance, and cuz its romanian, so the Bf 110G was a redemption. Until the attacker reclassification came, so now i'm back to this plane (by force), since again no other option for a fighter-bobmer till 5.0, and I retired all my 110s from every preset.

How do you get your rockets to intersect like that? I usually have to aim to hit with the left or right rockets, yours both hit at the same point.
Its just the layout of these rockets (german wfr.gr21) they fire incredibly straight and close together and are almost a guaranteed kill every shot
Weird, the Romanian IAR 80, was purportedly super nimble, (though slower), & even had a turn radius tighter than the legendary Spitfire. (There is even an account of several of them decimating a squadron of P38s) wonder what made the 81 so different…
The IAR81C Is heavier comparing to the 80C by nearly 300kg
The IAR80C had x4 Browning FNs and x2 20mm Ikaria with 60 rounds each.
While the 81 has less armament, the MG151s are considerably heavier, whilst having more armor for the pilot, shifting the center of gravity.
The IAR80s were lighter and thus more nimble, the 81 being just a stop-gap unthill Romania got Stukas.
So esentialy the IAR81 is just a fat 80, or a skinny Stuka with no gunner and somewhat lighter and faster, but not enough to shake most enemys off its 6

I need some help with the rockets on this plane. I set them for "Impact" and the still explode in the air. After approx 1000 meters. Does anyone know how to fix this? I put in a ticket with WT and am getting the run around. They playing dumb like they don't know what vehicle I am talking about. HELP!!
So after a few weeks of back and forth with Gaijin, they pretty much said that these rockets only go about 800 meters. Unlike EVERY OTHER rocket in game. Consider before purchasing.

This is not fully Romanian plane. The whole tail section was taken from Polish PZL-P24 fighter which Romania was producing on licence.

A couple of things I agree with, a few I don't. I could out turn fight most planes I came up against when I flew on the weekend, especially with combat flaps, so his quote on not being able to turn fight any opposition plane is false. Head on is a big no no due to its huge radial engine as 1 hit to it just kills the motor, so he is wrong again there too. I was flying Arcade and this vid was all as Realistic but I would think the dynamics would be similar in those two points !!
Nope, the 81 is pure garbage in prolonged dogfights
Can only turn in small bursts in horizontal circles but it will lose energy quick
Vertical turns tend to do better because its nose heavy and will tend to bleed and gain energy back relatively quick
