Since I was a child I have always loved this song. Only later I realized it is about someone dying. Not a sad thing but into the next journey into space and time.
I was hospitalized with pneumonia two years ago with a 50/50 chance at survival. When I started coming out of a drug induced haze in my hospital room I put on my headphones and turned on my playlist. I don't remember if this was the first song or not because my brain was really fuzzy. I do remember listening to the lyrics deeply and becoming emotional. I was thinking about the moments that I pissed away in life and that my kids were growing. I wasn't a bad person at all but because of this song I made a vow to never take one second for granted. For that reason alone I am a better person. Who knows maybe this will be played during my funeral too!
Don’t we all. I was 16 in 1970 and knew it was a unique time. I want to go back on a one way ticket to 1st Jan,1970 and live the whole fantastic time again, then get to about 1991 and go back,on a fkg loop!
I was 16 years old when I first heard this. It hit me like a ton of bricks....because I had so many relatives that i had relationships with who had passed away...... hearing it again at 57 hits me even harder with even more of those close people who are gone. It is funny though that I don't think of this as a 'downer'.....it is a reminder to get the most out of your time, because once that moment has passed, it is gone.
This is one of 2 songs that are requested for my funeral (when it happens). I want it played at the end of the service. My other choice is Old and Wise also by Alan Parson's Project.
These guys are absolutely brilliant artists. My Daughter put me back in touch with "Time" by the Alan Parsons Project about a year ago. I always shared my music with my kids ,now that I'm older they are reminding me of songs I haven't heard or thought about in a while. It's just so much great music to keep track of.This one is well worth exploring again.Beautiful.
I'm 43 years old and am listening to this right now because my dad loved Alan Parsons when I was little; have been randomly, suddenly recalling songs my folks used to play..I'm gonna send him the link to this song.
Alan Parsons has some of the most technically intricate & evocative music, yet it sounds so smooth & simple. Your reflections on time remind me that it's one of the things we take for granted, along with gravity, which scientists aren't really sure what they are, & how they work. For instance, was there ever a time when there WAS no time? If gravity's not magnetic or centrifugal, how does it work? Anyway, thanks for sending me on this introspective journey, AND for your reaction!
This song is always poignant to me. Back in 1982, I remember dedicating it on the radio to a young boy who was dying of leukemia and our community was raising money for the family
APP is my favorite band. They are so versatile in their sound and their albums are all thematic, they take you on a journey. If you haven't checked out their other stuff already, you need to! Silence and I, Old and Wise, La Sagrada Familia, Some Other Time, The Raven... Just a few of my favorites. Their catalogue is so extensive and you can't go wrong with any of it.
This song is my alarm clock for many years. A reminder every day, that Time never stops. THIS day is the only THIS day there will ever be. Make it count.
I first heard this song while my family was stationed on Guam. It was my foster brother’s graduation song and the words meant so much back then as they do now. We are now 40+ years older but this song now means so much for four reasons. My foster brother, my graduating class and the people I served with in the military and my family.
My cousin did a family video and it had 3 songs on it while family members alive and dead appeared from old tapes. The songs were: In my Life by the Beatles, Time by APP, and Kenny Rogers song Through the Years. That was over 20 years ago and nearly all of the people in those videos are gone. I get more teary eyed every time I watch it. ☹️😥
Live your life as fully as you are able each day! Do the best that you can with the knowledge that you have so that you don't live with regret. I am 70 and can honestly say that I don't have regret. Would I do some things differently if I could? Certainly with the knowledge I have now. But I did the best I could with the knowledge that I had at that time. You do better, when you know better ... so learn each day! I just love watching and listening to you ... you are a good man!
Sooooo excited to see you doing Alan Parsons! I've been patiently waiting. Such a wonderful rabbit hole to explore! This song was one of 4 songs on my brother's memorial video at his funeral.
Harri, very insightful..Songs like this make us all introspective and more sensitive to others. There is no such thing as time. No one can give you a pound of Wednesday. No one can share time. You can't get this second back; because, you never had it in the first place. Einstein didn't believe in time. He called time " a pesky little illusion".
ironic he did a song named time,,,,he was engineer on the floyd dark side of the moon album, and he is responsible for the "clocks chiming at the begining of their song called time
The perception of time changes with maturity. When you're young you take granted that you always have plenty of it and you squander it. Then when you hit middle age thanks for conclusion that you don't know how much time you have left, you gain more appreciation for it, embracing it, and doing everything you can to slow every second down to enjoy it longer.
About every 10 years I purge about a hundred CDs from my collection; APP has survived 3 purges so far without it even being questioned at all and I can’t imagine it not surviving the future ones.
Beautiful sentimental song. Parson also worked under George Martin on the production of "Let It Be" and " Abby Road". So maybe there are some Beatle influences along with Pink Floyd. Thanks Harri. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
As ever, I appreciate your honest and thoughtful comments Harri. As hard as this is for us humans, the ONLY place to be is the present moment. It's all we have, and the past and future are all there too, so embrace age "whatever". The 18 yr old is there with you, and me, still.
The Alan Parsons Project were a Scottish-English rock band from the 70's-90's. They had a lot of hits in that time such as "The Raven", "(The System of) Dr. Tarr & Professor Fether", Games People Play", "Snake Eyes", "Sirius"/"Eye in the Sky", "Old & Wise", "Don't Answer Me" etc.
I keep begging people to listen to the song In the lap of the gods from the Pyramid album. For me, it's one of the best pieces of music I've ever heard. Please try it, it's a masterpiece.
Thanks Daniel ! One of my favorite APP songs! None of us are promised tomorrow. Somber for this Memorial Day, 2022. Thinking of my dad in WWII. Thanks Harri my friend!✌
My pleasure Ginny. I always like your picks. Keep them coming. Yeah my father died 50 yrs. ago and I still miss him tremendously. Sorry for your loss. Sad. 🙃👍🔥
I somehow always end up listening to this song when I'm thinking of friends and family that didn't make it to the stage of life I'm at, and then i end up a teary mess.
If you think that's powerful, try 'Shadow of a Lonely Man' or "Limelight, also by the Project. Deep and poignant. As you can see by my name, I'm all up in this. 10 albums of excellence here, plus 4 Alan Parsons solo albums after the Project broke up, plus Eric Woolfson's Freudiana. Woolfson is the singer on Time, and actually wrote the words and music for most APP pieces. From that album, "Don't let the Moment Pass' and 'There but for the Grace of God' will also hit you. As an instrumental, 'In the Lap of the Gods' from APP Pyramid is intense and dramatic.
I love how much you appreciate all the music that some had the pleasure to experience. I suggest you listen to the song "Mr. Time" off the album Try Anything Once", it will send send shivers to the very tips of your soul!! I think my husband had every album they created. Be Safe & Blessings ❣️

This is one of the songs I want played at my funeral. So much wisdom in this song! It's just so beautiful!
Same

IMO one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
"Old and Wise" is my very favorite Alan Parsons song. Very emotional and introspective. Give it a listen.
@Joe Wegrzyn mine too. It's the best.
Tbat is on my playlist for my funeral along with this song.
@@HRConsultant_Jeff Me too! Along with "Time". They have a great message to give.
"Old and Wise" is my favorite song of any artist, hands down. I can close my eyes and listen to it on repeat forever.
Such haunting vocals. Man your so right about time lost forever. I want to go back to my childhood and stay forever.
That is exactly the way I was thinking.
Don’t we all.
I was 16 in 1970 and knew it was a unique time.
I want to go back on a one way ticket to 1st Jan,1970 and live the whole fantastic time again, then get to about 1991 and go back,on a fkg loop!
Sadly the singer who provided lead vocals Eric Woolfson passed away 14 years ago. RIP
I was 20 when this came out....I was driving down Hwy 90 along the beach in Gulfport, Mississippi. I loved it then and still do. Timeless.
I was 16 years old when I first heard this. It hit me like a ton of bricks....because I had so many relatives that i had relationships with who had passed away...... hearing it again at 57 hits me even harder with even more of those close people who are gone.

My favorite APP song is "Old and Wise". Highly recommended!
Yes!
Yeah that is awesome and "Turn of a friendly Card" aswell.
One of the greatest songs you've done so far.
Alan Parsons Project is a hidden gem
This is one of 2 songs that are requested for my funeral (when it happens). I want it played at the end of the service. My other choice is Old and Wise also by Alan Parson's Project.
I have also chosen those two as my funeral songs.
The last song my wife and I danced to was this song. The next year it played at her funeral.
This was the last song that my wife and I danced to as well. I get it. It means do much to me now.

Silence and I is absolutely magical,as is the whole of Turn of a Friendly Card,a major music landmark album,I wore it out in 1980 and beyond.
I love this very under appreciated band. This is a gem that I haven’t heard for many years. Great pick Daniel 🌺✌️
Thanks Debbie. I always like your picks. Just saying. 🙃👍🔥
This song used to almost put me in a trance, it was so, so peaceful, almost eerie, loved it.
This song is my alarm clock for many years. A reminder every day, that Time never stops. THIS day is the only THIS day there will ever be. Make it count.
Harri, their "Games People Play" and "Sirius"/"Eye In The Sky" are next for you!!
Yes, on both song choices!!
One of the most beautiful songs ever! Alan Parsons is amazing!
Many people I knew had this song played at their funerals-haunting and makes you think about how life is spent.
OMG! This song is so beautiful and heartbreaking! I can't listen to it without bawling my eyes out! 😭😭💔💔❤️❤️
Your life will literally flash before your eyes if you immerse yourself in this song.
One of the most best songs ever recorded and beautifully sung. This song brings chills down my spine
Yes!!! Daniel, I guess we had Alan Parsons on our minds in May. Beautiful song.
Yes sir.. We were on some cosmic wavelength. 😉
This song still brings tears to my eyes it's beautiful and Alan Parsons is a genius thank God I got to see him once
Eric Wolfson's vocals. Simply perfect.
My all time favorite song lines.... Time...keeps flowing like a river.....to the sea, to the sea... where it's gone forever
"Who knows when we shall meet again, If ever?" is another really fantastic line.
The older i get the more i get this song... (im 53 now)
A unique and brilliant song by a unique and brilliant band. Thanks for the reaction and for your insights on the passage of Time.
There’s so many great APP songs, definitely Old and Wise. Also you may want to check out Breakdown or The Voice!
My favorite song of all time!😥😍😇😉
Such a beautiful song ❤
Great reaction 🙏

First comment - GOOD CHOICE!! Thanks Daniel!

The marching drums of time.
I want this played at my wake. Remind the living of how precious our time is.

As a huge Alan Parsonsfan - Games People Play, Don't Answer Me and Turn of a Friendly Card are my pick.

one of my favorites from this group.
Love your analysis of life and time..Thank you
My sweet Aunt's favorite song, she passed in her 20's, I was only 9 but miss her still today. She was a kind soul.
Such a moving song to listen to as I grow old.

Moody Blues influence obviously too
Bought the album when it first came out and still enjoy it from time to time.

I would add Don't Answer Me along with this tune as my fave Alan Parsons Project tunes...
Maybe you can hear a little bit of Pink Floyd in this song, Alan Parsons was the producer of their masterpiece Dark Side of the Moon
Definitely a bit of “Us and Them”
No,he engineered the master,Pink Floyd produced the album technically speaking, although AP had a great deal to do with the whole recording process.
One of their best another great song is old and wise
Another beautiful ballad by APP is Don't Let It Show
This was a song that really affected me. I was 13 and It really made me think about mortality, for better or worse. Probably worse.

So good

Days are Numbers, one of there many unknown songs.

Alan Parsons engineered the Pink Floyd album Dark Side Of The Moon.
Such a depressing song, and beautifully written!
Alan Parsons , as far as I'm concerned is the modern day Mozart. This song will be the last song played at my memorial !😉😥
best a p p song

I Robot
My favorite album
It is a favorite, but I think the song itself is also a kind of over intellectualizing of things in general. Time is important, but ultimately it's a manifestation of the physical world, and sometimes we get tied up in trying to make sense of things that just are. So ... good song, but I'm not sure it's as insightful as maybe people think it is, so much as it reinforces what we value.
Is it just me as I hear so many similarities with ELO? Or are my ears deceiving me? Anyone? Anyone?
Is it a copy of a Pink floyd song?
No. Alan Parsons (Project) did 10 albums, that I have, and probably a few "Greatest Hits" type albums. Alan Parsons was associated with Pink Floyd during the recording of some of their albums though.
@@billkant849 ruclips.net/video/nDbeqj-1XOo/видео.html
Alan Parsons helped produce Dark Side of the Moon. So you're probably hearing a lot of Floyd influences.
Not the best song by Alan Parsons kind of a boring track, IMO....but it is poignant to some for a myriad of reasons, so that is fine.
I suggest Psychobabble
there was very good English poet that said it best and I quote ; Time IS THE FIRE IN WHICH WE BURN"
"Miss the beat, you lose the rhythm
And nothing falls into place,
Only missed by a fraction
Slipped a little off your pace,"
Van Halen, Right Now.
