Joe Davis No, you couldn't create this speed with a delay pedal. Early 90s you know... I'm also playing bass guitar (for about 30 years now) and believe me, this wasn't possible at the time. Only using loops. Tony Pettitt never used them. AFAIK. I've always been impressed of him playing this bassline.
@@cpyrex72 It's delay: a single tap on a dotted 8th note. (Also: think Pink Floyd from the 70's). Listen to the 4:46 mark of the song when the bass kicks in again. I've played this myself often in the past. Psychonaut is an amazing piece... stunning atmosphere
In my opinion, one of the most under-rated and over-looked bass musicians in rock history. I can’t think of another “loud” band where the bass is so front and centre an element of the sound. And groovy as get out! Phenomenal.
Wozza59, I am envious that you attended. I live in Sydney, Australia and the tyranny of distance meant that the Nephilim never travelled here. Tell us more about the gig" Had the single Psychonaut been released yet?
In 2005/06, I watched the Revelations DVD practically everyday for a year...Psychonaut, Summerland, Trees Come Down, Dawnrazor, etc all drew me in deeper to mysterious and psychic beauty of this band. I always loved the silhouetted fans standing arms-out on the shoulders of others in the audience. Such a profound experience captured on video that would inspire me to recreate that same euphoric feeling through my own songwriting. The Nephilim will live on through me!!
Ha ha, I see your comment is 7 years old, so does this mean you're in your early 60's now? - i've just turned 50 & I was at this gig too but as a sprightly 18 year old, still remember it too, the Nephilim were utterly entrancing, this gig was incredible!
Wow, this track takes me on a journey to another time and space altogether. It blows me away every time I hear it. It's pure perfection - the guitars, lyrics, the drone throughout the track, the well placed incidental keyboard parts, Carl's voice and of course that bass line is completely insane!
I'll sign that petition!! Absolutely profound...this band completely changed my perspective of the word 'heavy' back in Oct 2005 (I still have to watch the entire video without interruption -ha)
That's the power of John Dee and Edward Kelley and Aleister Crowley, fused together into Carl McCoy the real life Connor MacLeod. Can't get any more legendary off anything musically dark as him and the rest of FOTN.
I honestly think sometimes he and the rest of FOTN managed to successfully replicate and do the magickal experiment attempted by John Dee and Edward Kelley into Czechoslovakia, Europe's most creepy place historically, were they played music to the dead and the dead responded, giving them tips on how to make it sound beyond the firmaments held by the word "talent". These guys in each album produced, each song, each take they do live, sound so distinct and fresh yet so perfect with the atmosphere created and the concepts they put forth with the Nephilim idea, its absurd how much they succeed at the world's greatest hidden gem creepy styled Rock band in the planet. My favorite band, most likely it will continue as such.
Wow ..... undoubtedly my favourite Fields of the Nephilim ( the Nephilim) song. In my opinion, Psychonaut is the BEST ever so-called Goth song. It is vastly superior to the song This Corrosion by the Sisters of Mercy. Psychonaut - simply talk to ANY genuine musician about Psyychonaut. My guitar playing friends who in 1990 were into Steven Vai, Guns'N'Roses, Skid Row AND then Nirvana .. were ALL blown away when they heard Psychonaut. They were stunned at the complexity of the music. Personally, I love the lyrics as they cover man's fall from grace. At the 5'58 mark in the video above, Carl McCoy sings in Enochian .... language of the angels.
stuff electrified by a good feeling , I hear that for the first time on my life ten year ago and seem to be one conscious\meditation kind of music...... like tool of lateralus , absenzia porcupine tree and the first sperimental album of virgin prunes.......very deep music
Well said. I must confess when i first listened this song and in particular that very same part when Carl sings in the Enochian language i thought it was some kind of hindu or Tibetan mantra or a japa, used for meditation. This song has such an intense atmosphere that very few can grasp. 😊😎✌️✌️✌️

Hey there, Toddler McCoy. Could you please help me with the few but very hard to figure out lyrics to DEEPER? I imagine that you receive a number of requests like this but I am confident that you are discerning enough to reply to some of us. xxx
per Nicholas Maidana, you can find the Compact Discs of this excellent Group in the more specialized shops, cearking around and asking to many addicts of these shops, i have found 3 C.D. in Viareggio, Italy, Tuscany, " MondoDisco" shop, but i had to make a commercial order and wait for these for three months, and finally i began satisfied !
in the final part Carl invokes also the name of the Archangel Raphael, besides the name of The Sun elevated as a semi-God, it would be exalting if he would invoke " come down Raphael, come down Jesus , and make Justice through the mankind mistakes " !
Could sound silly at the first thought, and could seem to make less strong the song, but I think there is a necessity to sensibilize some people in at least one strophe, interpreting many Jesus ' words in a different way , compared from the priests' manner .
For example, that the priests say only and always " offer the other cheek" , instead Jeseus said it only to the hypocrites, and He in some times reacts against the unjust ones that not change their mind,, like the money-changers and relics' sellers that were immediately out of that temple and that He made go away . Another aspect it is that He is not autolesionist, like many of some Christian cults are. He tried two times to evitate to presentate in front of the "jury" fo Caifa and Anna , ther is also this in the Gospels, instead some Christians priests seem to notice too much the " via Crucis" ,lke some Catholics monacal orders, and not the Jesus Christ 's predication, or at least they talk about it in a way that make seem that He could forgive everything, and this I think that it's not true, it would destroy the human civilisation.
That bass player (Tony Pettitt) is MAD! This guys is essentially playing psychedelic trance bass lines live for 9 minutes.
digital delay pedal, not as difficult as it sounds actually but definitely a cool bass line with a great sound.

Post-Punk to the next level sir, its what FOTN does. The tribal dirgelike, drone-y rhythms of the 80s mastered to perfection.
In my opinion, one of the most under-rated and over-looked bass musicians in rock history. I can’t think of another “loud” band where the bass is so front and centre an element of the sound. And groovy as get out! Phenomenal.
I just absolutely love the journeys he sends me on. Wish I could thank him.
now I'm in my mid 50s I still remember this gig so well. The emotion it brings listening to it again is awesome.

It was a. ... spiritual experience
I was there too, it was such a visceral performance, ritual ceremony , loved it no-one does it better than the Neph

Quite possibly the greatest live goth-rock performance, ever.

Have you noticed that Carl does not even blink once when singing the intro?... His gaze is mesmerizing!

Gnostic rock. The esoteric resurrection of the soul from the dead, not the esoteric resurrection of the flesh.
