I saw the title of the video and passed it by. Then I got to thinking, what I have ain't working. Glad I stopped by. I can always count on you, Josh and the Schill brothers to teach me something new.
Not sure if anyone else mentioned or has tried but I use buck naked by Duluth. They are the most durable synthetic comfortable undies I have ever owned. Great on the trails, dry fast and don’t stink.
I have a snowmobile hack from a friend that might help for cold weather hiring. We cut old synthetic base layer pants into boxer shorts and use as underwear. Make sure it’s not cotton, it must wick and quick dry
I've got a pair of Outdoor Vitals Dragon Wool underwear I really like. But I also got a pair of exofficio last year on Devin's recommendation and I've been really pleased! I'll be doing exofficio for my thru-hike I think. Might bring the Dragon Wool as my sleepers. Good to see another one of your videos Tim. I watched you a ton when I was just getting start on the RUclips journey. } Keep Moving Forward!
I have a dozen pair of the ExOfficio Give-n-go and half of those have lasted me 5 years + with near weekly use. They are my go-to backpacking underwear, but I wear them regularly because they are super comfy. Best part is, my significant other likes the way I look in them, so there is that to consider.
Hey Tim, just wanted to let you know that my custom SWD Frameless 30 arrives Friday! I've been waiting since Nov. 3rd. You were an big influence toward my purchase of the pack. Thank you.
My full-time job I'm a delivery driver, so out in all kinds of weather temperatures precipitation etc. I switched to David Archy Bamboo boxer briefs about 6-7 years ago. I haven't found anything better yet. Bamboo as a fabric feels like cotton, is naturally moisture wicking, and antimicrobial.
I had underwear on the beginning of the PCT. By mile 1000 I just wore running shorts all the time or wore rain pants over running shorts. My running shorts were actually lighter than my ExOfficio boxers so I've been sticking with running shorts.
Everyone needs underwear... has to be talked about. Better to clear the air than have issues on trail. Under Armor and Hanes with a 9" inseam work well and have lasted me a long time. Thanks for the discussion!
Like you I have tried a lot of different brands. Finally I pulled out my old favorites, the original Under Armor boxer-briefs, and looked at how they were made. The closest I found was the Ex-Officio give-n-go (although the new type has a bit stiffer fabric). What is important to me is the placement of the seam between the legs...on the original UA it was set further back so that it wasn't between the thighs...same with the give-n-go. I've found that if the seam is too far forward it tends cause the fabric around it to rub more and pushes the other seams into the edge of the perineum and then the seam begins to cut in. I know this is more information than most people put into underwear, but I like to use boxer-briefs as a liner for marathon distance runs too...so how they are made and perform really matters. I also don't like for them to be to low cut...especially in the back. In the end (pun intended), the Ex-Officio give-n-go is the best I've found in recent years and well worth the money.
The best investment to catch on sale at REI. It dose pill, but the best underware I have ever worn. Two pair of underware, two pair of high end socks, one long and two short sleeve nike sweat wicking tops is all a hiker needs.
So good to have you "back in the saddle", talking about stuff that relates to all of us!! Love ya Brother. Now I gotta go order some more "skivees"!!😎😎
It's NOT a silly topic, I think it's a great topic. I just went on a snow/winter trip this weekend and didn't wear a pair of my synthetic boxer briefs because I was wearing my base layer pants. That was a big mistake. I used to put diaper rash cream to prevent chafing on my inner thighs. I tried synthetic boxer briefs and have never had any issues ever since. I prefer Nike, Reebok, and Adidas... with a 9" inseam. I've been telling "Backpacking with Jason" for a while now. Great topic, it's more important than people know.
are you suppost to wear underwear under thermal pants?? ive always just wore the thermal pants whenever i use them for a cold hike i never put boxers on underneath them and never realy had an issue. butni always wondered if its proper to put boxers on under the thermals 🤣
You should try out the SAXX underwear, I’ve never had any issues with chaffing, and they are by far the most comfortable underwear I’ve ever used. I got some 3 years ago and haven’t purchased anything else since!
I also swear by Exofficio women's underwear, for the same reasons. Have been looking for some good quality merino underwear but no luck yet... Great topic!
YESS. i second this! pair of thieves are an amazing brand 👍 my fiance suprised me with a pair from them one night and i tried em on and instantly had that "woah" factor. instant comfort
I use Adidas and seems to work well and is a balance between cheap and expensive. I do have a pair of ExOficio though that work well... Save that fancy underwear for my big trips lol! Good to see you again man!
I clicked on the link out of curiosity about the price. If my FB feed and YT ads all start to be about mens underwear I'm going to come back and haunt you. LOL
+1 ExOfficio Give-n-go boxer briefs... I typically hate purchasing super trendy elitist hiker gear, however, I saw them on Amazon: 2 pair for $25... liked them so much, I bought another 2 before the price went back up. Pricy, but the quality was well worth it. I will also give a nod to Darn Tough socks. Also pricy, but hard for me to wear anything else now.
I am not much of a hiker myself but I planned on travelling and I wanted fast drying. I bought some men's hiking briefs and they did not provide for a male to exit out the front. I thought, what the heck, did I put them on backwards? Nope. I thought only female underwear were like that. Look real close at the pictures before you buy online, or you may be dropping your drawers to pee.
Honestly if you're at the point of researching what underwear you're going to wear backpacking I assume you've dialed in the rest of your kit to the point of where you need nothing else. And if it's not well I guess everybody has their own set of priorities 😂
HOW MANY YEARS DID IT TAKE TO GET YOU PACK DOWN TO LESS THAN KITCHEN SINK LEVEL? I TRY AND DUMP STUFF BUT.. GET ON THE TRAIL AND YOU HEAR S&(*&(&^&))^%%%% T. WHAT TO DO ? SHOW US HOW TO DO IT RIGHT . THANKS
I’m not a guy, but I buy underware for hubby, and adult sons. SAXX are expensive $40-50 a pair, but I hear the net is totally worth it and they are very durable.
People will laugh this topic off until they get fifteen miles into a hike wearing fruit of the loom boxers. (Early in the hobby mistake) i could have saved weight by not bringing a stove and just putting the pot of water between my thighs to boil though.
Underwear???..Next thing we know you will be doing at entire video on poop shovels,,,,,, exofficio are my favorites too. Prefer boxers to boxer breifs, they seam to breath more.
I saw the title of the video and passed it by. Then I got to thinking, what I have ain't working. Glad I stopped by. I can always count on you, Josh and the Schill brothers to teach me something new.
5:04 - "I have no personal experience with women's underwear."
So you say...
😜
Not sure if anyone else mentioned or has tried but I use buck naked by Duluth. They are the most durable synthetic comfortable undies I have ever owned. Great on the trails, dry fast and don’t stink.
I use Hanes with the elastic band (which in the process of being faded out) and when the sweat starts I douse liberally with corn starch.
With wearing your underwear over your clothes (5:51) and your backpack as a cape, you are my superhero! 😅 Glad to have you back!
EX O is my go to but I've also found that Underarmour hiking tights have worked well as a base layer in cold. Thanks!!!
Great to see your vids again Tim. You do some of the best gear reviews out there. More!
Glad to have you back!
depending on the weather you can also wear running shorts w the built in brief... dries really quickly overnight
I have a snowmobile hack from a friend that might help for cold weather hiring. We cut old synthetic base layer pants into boxer shorts and use as underwear. Make sure it’s not cotton, it must wick and quick dry
Hiking of course not hiring

I use Russell undies and those things work great and last for years.
Saxx.... That ending got a LOL.

Nice! I was actually thinking of picking up another for my daughter.
@@TimWatsonOutdoors Their lead time is now 20 weeks!
I have a DCF 35. It's pretty sweet. Next time I'm going to do a custom hardside bottom pocket instead of mesh though.

I’ve seen that recommendation a few times now.

I've been free balling for years. Spent ten years in the army that way and haven't changed.
I never spent more than $15/pair on ExOfficio. I always find some on the sale rack at REI.

I still haven’t found the perfect pair

Adidas all day. I would just like to add that I thought I would miss the 'stache, but the beard is working for you!
Thanks!
Whatever brand you choose; always go with brown.
Hahahaha!
Then how will you know when to wash them?
@@fordhouse8b Hmm, good question. On the trail I suppose whenever you get the chance. Cleanliness is next to godliness.
I tend to use saxx. Seems to ride up less than exofficio
Thanks for the info!
Real men go commando. I don’t mean without underwear I mean with camo underwear LOL
😂😂😂😂😂
I was a little uncomfortable listening to you talk about your underwear and chafing and friction lol! You're the best backpacker in the world Tim!
Lol!!
I swear by smartwool boxer briefs with a 9” inseam. I’m glad I bought three pairs years ago because they discontinued them.
I also swear by Exofficio women's underwear, for the same reasons. Have been looking for some good quality merino underwear but no luck yet... Great topic!
Champion is good but Pair of Thieves superfit last longer 🤣🤣🤣and dries pretty fast. Great Topic Tim! Great to see your back at it..

I like Icebreaker merino wool underwear.

Brandon Sanderson, good author. Loved the Mistborn books.
Yea he is. I’m working on Rhythm of War now. Just finished Oathbringer.
Have you checked out the iBex Merino wool underwear? Now that’s expensive....$35 a pair. Hard to justify $35.
Oof! I have not. Now I will.
@@TimWatsonOutdoors oh and we laughed so hard at the bloopers!!! Love it! And the iBex men’s is like $55.
been happy with Duluth Buck Naked boxera

Doing well! Thanks for asking.
Smartwool :)
Here we go again....🤣🤣🤣
I knew you’d be on this quickly!!!
He's Baaaack! I cant wait to see this incorporated into one of your videos Restless :)
For womens underwear, I like fruit of the loom breathable micro-mesh in bright colors. :)

Duluth Trading Armachillo boxer briefs. You pay more but it's worth the investment.
