      I'm hearing this from a few people (with different stores). Sounds like, just as with the base game, GW haven't been able to provide enough to their stockists to cover their commitments. At the moment my order with Element Games is ongoing, but I keep waiting for an email!

    The fog room had a problem that I've fixed. For one the fog room generates monsters from the fog that are illusions. Basically the rules say you have to roll a combat dice to determine it you actually hit a monster or instead it becomes fog and disappears. I changed the rule to use the hero's Mind Points in which they roll a number of red dice equal to their Mind Points and if a 6 is rolled the illusion fails and the hero rolls for the attack or they successfully cast their spell upon the monster. If the roll fails the hero's attack or spell automatically fails. The monster then is moved to an adjacent space to where it was last.

      @@Emperor_Atlantis Space Marines need a complete new look, shouldn't be that hard though, there are lots of other games/franchises with soldiers in space (Space Marines), but they usualy aren't named like that.
      Only GW Space Marines look like Knights, with Bolters that fire something like 30mm low explosive rounds. 😅
      Chaos Space Marines & Genestealers need to be changed too, or replaced, again, not that hard, same with the Eldars.
      Everything else, I think, could stay the same, more or less. Pictures on cards, no big problem.

    always glad to hear your views on this stuff, thanks for the video! to me, without "Into the Northlands" or else an extensive list of homebrew clarifications, this is not a very fun quest pack to play. it's way too long and hard for kids to play, even if they mastered the previous expansions. it just wasn't given adequate playtesting back in '92, and a lot of good ideas were left on the cutting room floor (thanks lucapaschi for the notes!). but modern day Zargons, with a little help, can turn it into something playable

If you don't have a barbarian at the moment, run one through the three solo missions to get them up to speed with the rest of the group, and then go for it.

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Lol fair enough. I guess I am not as generous to Frozen Horror as I am to the other Hero Quest expansions since it lacks the nostagia power, never having been part of my childhood. I just bought the Stls of the various minis, so at some point I will build this expansion too. The Warbears look suitably fearsome!

    I think it's interesting that you prefer the female Barbarian sculpt in this box. I think it's a good mini, but I prefer the female sculpt included with the Mythic tier backers for the following reason: while the new sculpt does have a lot of unique parts of it, it also seems like she's from a completely different tribe. Honestly, it seems weird that the male Barbarian is from a Northern region, dressed as he is. The mythic tier sculpt looks like she's from the same group as the male Barbarian, but the new sculpt doesn't have much in common at all.
    I'm also glad you pointed out the bit about the multiple attacks. I hadn't seen that in this rule book, though I had noticed the repeat of the rule in the cards with the Rogue Heir, so good to know it showed up here. Honestly, an official FAQ or collection of rules would be good for this game.
    Those two things said, I really appreciate the Heroquest content you've been doing. It's good to see people having and keeping interest in this new release of the game.

      The barbarian in the Frozen Horror is a homage to the original Frozen Horror barbarian, so although I don't particularly have any nostalgia for this expansion, I do appreciate that homage. Also, as I said, this feels like a different character with her own personality. The female barbarian from the campaign just seemed like the male barbarian using a TikTok filter or something. It's not a bad miniature, I just think they missed an opportunity to make something more distinct.
      Thanks for the kind words regarding the coverage. I love both versions of the game, although my original restored copy from '89 is now serving as expansion material for Advanced Heroquest while I play HeroQuest using the new edition!

    Is it me or do the sculpts look a little better detail wise than the original HQ box? Either that or they are just designing more mindfully around the end quality of the models. Slightly generic mercs aside. They look much better to me.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 года назад +1

      Apparently they have changed their plastic, so it's not quite so bendy and will hold better detail. However, I don't know if that happened before or after they produced The Frozen Horror. The miniatures do seem better, but I can't say I have noticed any real difference in the plastic, so it may down to better sculpts, a better understanding of the production of these plastics, or maybe even the colour of the plastic making it easier to see the details. Regardless, I'm happy!

      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 года назад +1

      I don't know about too many. With four heroes who might all hire mercs, plus mercs showing up in some missions as enemies, it feels like it's not necessarily an excessive amount. I don't think the sculpts are as good as the monster ones, though.

    • @GoldenSunAlex
      @GoldenSunAlex 2 года назад

      I think the mercs are fine. Better than the original ones we got in Wizards of Morcar and Heroquest: Advanced Quest (which were super-fiddly).
      And I think we needed as many as we did, so heroes can hire plenty and also have them as enemies.

    I must admit, I like the monster sculpts of this box compared to the originals. The originals were too cartoonish on the Polar Bears, Yetis, and Frozen Horror. Sort of like the opposite of what I think of the new set compared to the old.

    The minis are certainly better than the original ones. I've always had my doubts that the originals were done by GW and that MB had done them on their own.
    This expac does make Heroquest a slightly better game with more difficulty and better choices. I wish they had done a desert themed set similar to this back in the day. Maybe that's something for the future?

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 года назад +1

      I think by the time you get to this point, if you are using the same heroes, you really need that jump up in difficulty. Also, it's so nice to go into a dungeon and see some new enemies. That was something I think the game really needs by the time you have made it through Kellar's Keep and Return of the Witch Lord.
      I like that this expansion has enough tiles to change the appearance of the board quite a bit (it's a shame they are double-sided though, as it limits which rooms you can put in your homebrew dungeons). A desert theme would definitely be good. Maybe something they could introduce with a new hero class.

    the red dice are blue and called „red dice“ - THATS the horror for me!!!

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  13 дней назад +1

      You know, I don't think I ever paid attention to the fact movement dice are referred to as "red dice" in the core set. I always thought of the dice as "combat dice" and "movement dice." They still use the "red dice" terminology in some places in First Light as well, even though the dice in that set are white with red pips.

    • @phil984
      @phil984 13 дней назад

      @ i dont know about the english version (i play the german version) but „red dice“ is a common terminology in the german version… horrific! I’ve changed the two dices from frozen horror with „real“ red dice🤣

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  12 дней назад

      Yes. It's a holdover from the use of the term "red dice" in the core set because those dice actually are red. I probably don't really think about it because I grew up with the original European edition which (in the UK) used the term "standard dice." So, I never saw the "red dice" terminology until getting the Avalon Hill reissue.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 года назад +1

      It's not THE selling point, but it's definitely A selling point. It's an excellent expansion, and having the female barbarian is a nice addition. It's no more nonsense for them to include a female barbarian here than it is for them to include the male elf in Mage of the Mirror. There will be people who want to be able to choose between a male and female version (my 12 year old daughter is very pleased there is a female barbarian), but also, every new hero like the Rogue Heir comes with a male and female version. During the HeroQuest crowdfunding campaign one of the incentives to back was a set of alt-gender heroes for the core game. Those minis aren't available at retail, so these expansions are currently the only way to get alt versions of those heroes.
