      I think they mean...back in those days there were unwritten rules..such as for blacks to look down when passing by whites or cross the street...basically ostracized as much as possible from society. So they mean it’s pretty progressive to have those behaviors at the time, but at the same time it’s California and they’ve been more progressive than the south even in that time...but still more or less similar mindset for most of the population

      What we did then & what we are continuously doing is that we totally neglect, ignore, abandoned our indigenous teachings, values, moral ethics, Principles......... to that of foregine idealogy & thought analysis, we become imitators & imposters of the conquerors & invadors. From the get going the approach was wrong, one can not degrade, devalue, belittle his/her own home grown to adapot someone's else values, teachings only to be a puppet to colonialists, at least we could use both the home grown & the new at the same time as it fits. A good & perfect examples are the Japanese, Chinese & most Asians, they never ever totally abandoned their own instead they adds on the new, look where they are now.
      If we do not have a self love & respect of our own it will get worst than what we are facing today.
      The bitter truth is that, it is a self hatred & self inflicted psychological warfare on ourselves.

    I wonder what white Americans ( particularly those who didn’t have much contact with continental Africans) think of Ethiopians? They didn’t fit white America’s preconceived notions of how an “African” was supposed to look so I wonder how did they try to box them in?
    Edit: I probably didn’t word this question the best so please don’t be too harsh on me 😅

      I have no doubt the majority will consider them blacks,but from a different culture.Ofcourse not every body is bigot.Forinstance,those who live by the percepts Bible will treat them differently than the average Joe.Any ways it matter little what other may say about an individual. The most important thing is what we believe about our self concept. And we Ethiopians need to be thankful of our ancestors for keeping Ethiopia a free independent nation.

      Ethiopia failed due to force assimilation by one particular ethnic group. Their reckless genocidal tendency sowed enmity through generations and was only manageable by ethnic federalism. Other countries adopted the philosophy for that exact reason.

    • @mekonnenborena9106
      @mekonnenborena9106 3 года назад +1

      @@danielbeyene1403 First your narrative has no merit or factual background at all. If you read history Amharic was made a national language by Ase Yohannes who hailed from Tigray. Secondly, Ethiopia was ruled much of it's modern history by the Shewans(Oromo, Gurage and Amharas). Third, no Government in modern history has used Ethnic-Apartheidism to rule its own people except your evil tplf who is buried alive for good. There is a difference between promoting diversity and funneling ethnic violence. The problem people like you, there is a deep rooted hate toward others who you feel different. Tell me Mengistu and most of his cabnet members the likes of Tesfaye Dinka were Oromos....Haileselaisse was from an Oromo mother-father Gurage/Amhara. When you live in a tribal veil your reasoning is no more than a maggot. Why is Ethiopia is on the verge of disintegration if ethnic federalism is the solution? Your lame ignorance is beyond words..."other counteries adopted ethnic federalism"....coud you mention a single country.

      @@danielbeyene1403 Everything you wrote is a lie. Ethiopia is troubled (not failing) for 50 years because of a few individuals from Eritrea, Tigray , especially Eritrea! who are consumed by jealousy and are suffering from Inferior Complexity Disorder,. No one forced anyone to unity. After WW2, Eritrea begged Emperor Haile Selassie to come back to Ethiopia. Because Eritrea was in danger of being absorbed (as a colony) by the English and because of Eritrea’s inability to survive on her own (with that rocky land and no natural resources whatsoever).
      Your coming here and bad mouthing Ethiopia, specifically Amhara by lying demonstrates what I said above when the truth is the opposite of to what you wrote , as written in history, as shown on historical videos and as found in the testimonies of reliable and credible individuals.
      Wither you are Eritrea or Tigray (the difference that exists between Eritreans and Tigray people is as much as that of between Coke Cola and Pepsi) I strongly advise you and your fellow countrymen (who have the same problem as you do) to seek some kind of professional help about the abnormal jealousy you feel toward Ethiopia/Amhara and the inferiority you feel when you compare yourselves with Ethiopia/Amhara. Ethiopia/Amhara has moved on and barely remembers your existence. As far as Ethiopia/Amhara concerned Eritrea and Tigray were, are and always will be an abomination for Ethiopia (only if you could take Tigray off of our hands! we would send a thank you card , with 🌺, of course)
      By the way, no Ethnic Federalism exists in the world except in Ethiopia (you know, the one that’s created by your country man Isaias Afework and Tigray’s Meles Zenwi to divide Ethiopia (as it is always the case with Eritrea and Tigray who have a shameful history of being Italian Bandas/traitors) because the world is working toward becoming United.
