    I think that the C9 E/ES is the best Sony Betamax built for Sony.

      They are quite a machine. Some do say the electronic back tension isn't good for tapes but I personally think these are great and Sony did use this deck in the professional SLO1700 too and they certainly know what they are doing! 😊

    Just got 2 c9s relatively good condition not plugged in since back than. Thank god, no leaking caps I'll change all absolutely all psu caps first and than test it. One has the old version off the dcdc converter. Best way to open them is just to rip them apart, never gonna use that stupid can again anyway lol.
    I'ma report back when capacitors have arrived and I tested it.

      Sounds great and good luck. Those cans are a pain and really only any good for the clock side of things these days.

      @@MrBetaByteyeah I've uploaded a video where i show how i open those cans way easier than heating it up and desoldering it and so on

      @@TechnicFreakJulian Very useful video. I have opened these this way but sometimes the solder is just too strong so revert back to the 100w soldering iron method.

      @MrBetaByte alright so I've recapped the first psu, dcdc had a shot q2, replaced it clock now works, the silver Recorder seems to be working fine haven't plugged it into the tv yet, but the PSU is horribly squealing, dependent on load what could that be? It's very annoying. But working fine.
      On the black beta the tape mechanism just blinks eject, doesn't take a Cassette

      Really do like the black ones but they are quite rare. (there is also a very rare red one too from what I understand)

    I had no video output on my C9 for years but somehow the aerial output worked fine. After watching this fix last night I checked to see if there was a break in the track to the line out.... and there was, in exactly the same position! I quick bridge soldered and now I have a lovely video signal at last. My only problem now is no audio al all. I wonder if that is such an easy fix?

    • @MrBetaByte
      @MrBetaByte  9 месяцев назад

      That's great you got the video out working. With the audio, is there any sound at all? If you put an audio source on the line in, does that work?

    hi i had a teac 44 of ebay note it had bad rust on the front panel lucky the 8o-8 front panel could be jazzed to fit the deck
    note i have worked on alot of gear over the years time to time you get a money pit and the deck you picked up can't be used any where
    note it's some time better to posted a video on here it may help to find parts or the side of it you are getting alot try to sell you juck decks
    i am making a tascam 38 of many decks all the left over parts just one part left the main pcb i have it it's bad i dropped out all the parts
    to use again some where there £30 in high power ic's on the pcb i tryed to buy them
    finding parts for betamax decks cost big money now

      I totally agree - it can become way too uneconomical to repair devices that have so many issues. Luckily I have a lot of parts for this machine so I hope it'll all be OK. I do sit on machines (not literally!) in the hope I'll come across a donor machine or parts but as you say, it can be a real money pit and sometimes it's just knowing when to give up or even not start at all!

    That is the worst head drum bearing I've ever heard. It almost sounds like those MFM hard drives from the 80s! My Panasonic NV-7500 had a noisy drum as well but not as bad as this. I pulled it all apart, put a couple of drops of oil into the bearing and it's still working 2 years later.

      @MrBetaByte  11 месяцев назад

      Totally agree - really amazingingly loud bearings. I think the coils could might be bad too but we'll see. Great on your NV-7500 - it's 50/50 on whether they can be brought back once they go noisey but ultimately it's wear that'll make them noisey again so yours sound like they're very good.
