    Jeni hello. Going in for another batch of this soup. So many recipes i watched you can are so good. I should triple them while I'm at it cuz I end up having to make more in a couple months.

    I watched this video, your taste test one and Linda’s Pantry for Aztec soup. Love both your channels. I didn’t use an exact recipe but payed attention to all of the recommendations - a wonderful soup. With the leftovers not canned, I added a pint of (home) canned Great Northern beans, a chopped zucchini, and a bit of cream. So good! Thank you! 🧡

    I canned up a batch of this soup last year(?) Whenever.... Tenny rate it's gone. All of it. Watching for some good tomatillos. So I can refill that gap in my larder. Love that stuff. Sometimes I crumble up some corn chips in it

    I will buy that Ball book. I bought another Ball book, but wasn't keen, so I bought the basic Ball Blue book and really love it. Since then, I have seen a lot of people use the book that you have and it seems much better. I bought a corn shucker, but admit I wasn't a natural at it, it will take me some practise. Thank you.

      The New Ball book has some recipes, but the advice I will give you is, add your own seasonings. Some of the recipes are great starts but need more flavor. 😊 I love ball blue book too!

      @@Jeni_Gough My first attempt was embarrassing, I will have to try again. My pre-roasted veg turned into a pile of seeds and the lime taste (I used the amount in the recipe) was so strong that it burnt our taste buds - I couldn't taste anything else for a day. I used pure lime as opposed to from concentrate - but I use so much lime generally that I thought it would be fine. My son has banned me from making it for him again, so I will try and perfect the balance to suit us. I am determined to try again as it sounds amazing.

      @@voxintenebris6367 the recipe calls for too much lime. I love this but I cut the lime way back when I make it now. 😊

    Oh man you gotta hear my canning story today. Was canning leftover pork butt and a few minutes before the processing time was up, I lost power! I stood in front of my stove praying to the canning Gods to hold my 11 lbs pressure for those last few minutes. I'm so relieved it did. Even got an additional minute. I'm so glad I checked the time to know cause I used the timer on my microwave but since I knew when it was supposed to go off, I knew when I lost power at 1:40 that they were gonna be done at 1:43. I got so lucky. I would've cried if I lost all that meat over a couple minutes!
    Anyway this soup looks amazing! I'm guessing the Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving is different than the Canning one? Welp, better go buy that one, lol. Don't tell my husband. 😬

      Unless the power was out for a very long time, you could have reprocessed the batch. I had two jars of pork butt that failed to seal so I ran them through again with the next batch.

    I want to make this. Question do peppers get hotter after being canned. Thank you

    • @Jeni_Gough
      @Jeni_Gough  2 года назад +1

      Some peppers, yes but not jalapeños, they get more mild after canning. 😊

    You could take those cobs, and boil them and make corn stock rather than jelly. I saw Thrifty Chic housewife do this. I will never do fresh corn again without making stock from them

    • @Jeni_Gough

      I tried, but it was too much corn for us, we will not eat it like that, we need more heat and flavor. When cooking and canning, change the flavor to your liking, it isn't worth canning, if you won't eat it. 😊

    Hello Jeni I am so excited to find out I won the giveaway that you and Linda had. I want to thank you so much. I commented on Linda's video and left my email address. When she emails me back I will give her my address. I will be sure to do a video when I receive the beautiful gifts.
    I use a bunting pan to cut the corn off the cob, it doesn't slide around.

    I just started a soup that I don’t even know where I found it. It’s called unstuffed bell pepper soup. I’ll can it tomorrow. I got a notification from you on this soup and it looks so good. I think I can smell it 😁😉. My only concern is I’ve never had those things that look like green tomatoes lol and I can’t eat hot peppers cause it makes me sick 😕 I can eat Anaheim just fine. Any suggestions?

    • @Jeni_Gough
      @Jeni_Gough  4 года назад +3

      You could add cream! That would be excellent! You could add whatever you want after you crack it open, beans, extra veg, pasta, cream, more broth. cheese, tortilla strips, cilantro, more lime, sour cream, crema........ It really makes a great base soup. 🙂
