Sounds delicious.
Jeni hello. Going in for another batch of this soup. So many recipes i watched you can are so good. I should triple them while I'm at it cuz I end up having to make more in a couple months.
I watched this video, your taste test one and Linda’s Pantry for Aztec soup. Love both your channels. I didn’t use an exact recipe but payed attention to all of the recommendations - a wonderful soup. With the leftovers not canned, I added a pint of (home) canned Great Northern beans, a chopped zucchini, and a bit of cream. So good! Thank you! 🧡
Wonderful! 😊
another winner! Thanks
Yw! 😊
I love your channel. Thanks.
Yw! 😊
I canned up a batch of this soup last year(?) Whenever.... Tenny rate it's gone. All of it. Watching for some good tomatillos. So I can refill that gap in my larder. Love that stuff. Sometimes I crumble up some corn chips in it
I will buy that Ball book. I bought another Ball book, but wasn't keen, so I bought the basic Ball Blue book and really love it. Since then, I have seen a lot of people use the book that you have and it seems much better. I bought a corn shucker, but admit I wasn't a natural at it, it will take me some practise. Thank you.
The New Ball book has some recipes, but the advice I will give you is, add your own seasonings. Some of the recipes are great starts but need more flavor. 😊 I love ball blue book too!
@@Jeni_Gough My first attempt was embarrassing, I will have to try again. My pre-roasted veg turned into a pile of seeds and the lime taste (I used the amount in the recipe) was so strong that it burnt our taste buds - I couldn't taste anything else for a day. I used pure lime as opposed to from concentrate - but I use so much lime generally that I thought it would be fine. My son has banned me from making it for him again, so I will try and perfect the balance to suit us. I am determined to try again as it sounds amazing.
@@voxintenebris6367 the recipe calls for too much lime. I love this but I cut the lime way back when I make it now. 😊
Making this one for sur
Sure
Make corn stock
Oh man you gotta hear my canning story today. Was canning leftover pork butt and a few minutes before the processing time was up, I lost power! I stood in front of my stove praying to the canning Gods to hold my 11 lbs pressure for those last few minutes. I'm so relieved it did. Even got an additional minute. I'm so glad I checked the time to know cause I used the timer on my microwave but since I knew when it was supposed to go off, I knew when I lost power at 1:40 that they were gonna be done at 1:43. I got so lucky. I would've cried if I lost all that meat over a couple minutes!
Anyway this soup looks amazing! I'm guessing the Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving is different than the Canning one? Welp, better go buy that one, lol. Don't tell my husband. 😬
I'm so glad you didn't lose your pork!!! I would have cried for you! It's a great book! 🙂
Unless the power was out for a very long time, you could have reprocessed the batch. I had two jars of pork butt that failed to seal so I ran them through again with the next batch.
I want to make this. Question do peppers get hotter after being canned. Thank you
Some peppers, yes but not jalapeños, they get more mild after canning. 😊
Hi just found this what you think about a quick char on the corn ? More flavor?
Hi and welcome! 😊 Absolutely, that would be great!
I’ve never had tomatillos before. Isn’t that what salsa verde is made from? If so, can salsa verde be used? I wouldn’t know where to get tomatillos or what to do with them.
You can use salsa verde. 😊
That is a really cool towel/hot pad scarf you have. How clever!
Thank you! Stay tuned, these are something I'm going to be offering for sale on my website!! Coming soon!!
That really looks good. Might have to try this one. Thanks for the video and God bless
Yw! 😊
You could take those cobs, and boil them and make corn stock rather than jelly. I saw Thrifty Chic housewife do this. I will never do fresh corn again without making stock from them
I love that chicken broth. This looks really good
Thanks! 😊
I love soups so thanks for the idea.
You are so welcome! 🙂
Thanks for the soup recipe. I've seen people use bundt pans to cut corn off the cob.
You bet! I have seen that too, but I never want to go dig it out of the laundry room, I'm lazy!! 😜
That's how I do it.
I was hoping you were going to follow the Ball recipe rather than doing your own thing. I made this soup exactly as listed and it was wonderful. I wanted to see what others thought.
I tried, but it was too much corn for us, we will not eat it like that, we need more heat and flavor. When cooking and canning, change the flavor to your liking, it isn't worth canning, if you won't eat it. 😊
I just love your channel. I always find myself chuckling out loud, with your little comments. 'I don't wanna sound corny, but...' lol. You are so funny with your comments and sounds and antics. Great entertainment and instruction. You make learning fun!
Thank you so much!! 🥰
That soup looks so yummy. I was looking at it in my canning book wondering...shall I try this one? Well, since watching your video, my answer is absolutely! Great idea on adding extra veg when serving. Thanks also, for the black pepper gets hotter tip!
You are so welcome! Happy canning! 😊
Great tip to use the cup to set the corn on!!..I agree with you, where there is cumin there needs to be Mexican oregano😎
I have wanted to try this recipe, now that I have seen it made I think I will try it. I have the large Rada veggie peeler, I had no idea it would cut corn off the cob! I love this idea!,
Wonderful! Let me know what you think of the soup when you make it. 🙂 I need to get the Rada large peeler again! I love their products.
And the poblanos and corn would have made it more maybe
It would have been about half corn had I added the amount Ball has listed. I really like this one as a base. I add veg to it when I het it up. So good! 🙂
I boy have a water canner, but your recipes are amazing. Might have to dive in and get a pressure canner. Thanks for the delicious recipes
I love this book. Have not made this particular recipe yet. I enjoy hanging out through the prep work. Like being with my friends or family in the kitchen. Thanks friend!
Wonderful! Being in the kitchen with loved ones is the best!! 🙂
Love watching you can. I love canning meat and your recipes intrigue me and I’ve tried some and am anxious to do more. Keep up all your good work!,
Thank you so much! 😊
I have made this without the lime juice before, for toppings I added queso fresco(small cubes), fresh bacon bits, chopped onions, cilantro and added fresh squeezed lime juice to taste :)
Sounds great! 🙂
Lovely. I am not a hot pepper person but I can think of substitutes with this for my home easily. Cant wait to see the taste testing! I like how you make the recipe your own. I fully do that also! And why not???? Lol.
I completely agree!! It doesn't change your processing time!! 🙂
I bet that would be good with black, pinto or white beans added to it when you go to use it.
Do you have a link or brand name for your cutting board? I like the knife info on it & would like to try to find one. Thanks
Yes! My boars and knife are Pampered Chef. I no longer sell the product but I absolutely love it! I will include a link in the description box for a PC consultant website to purchase products if you like. I have been buying them myself for close to 30 years!!🙂
Hello Jeni I am so excited to find out I won the giveaway that you and Linda had. I want to thank you so much. I commented on Linda's video and left my email address. When she emails me back I will give her my address. I will be sure to do a video when I receive the beautiful gifts.
I use a bunting pan to cut the corn off the cob, it doesn't slide around.
This recipe looks so yummy. I will be sure to try it.
Thank you again for the beautiful apron
You are so welcome! I'm happy for you!!! As soon as she gives me your info I will get this apron out to you!! Congrats! 🙂
LIFE OF A MIL-WIFE can you drop your email here please?? I just want to make sure this gets to you soon!! Ty 😊

LIFE OF A MIL-WIFE thank you! 😊
Sounds great! I'm going to order the new book
Wow yummy... stay connected
🙂
I just started a soup that I don’t even know where I found it. It’s called unstuffed bell pepper soup. I’ll can it tomorrow. I got a notification from you on this soup and it looks so good. I think I can smell it 😁😉. My only concern is I’ve never had those things that look like green tomatoes lol and I can’t eat hot peppers cause it makes me sick 😕 I can eat Anaheim just fine. Any suggestions?
Are those green tomatoes hot?
Just leave out the jalapeno and use a mild pepper. 🙂
Nope, not hot. They are tomatillos. Tangy and delicious. 🙂
Jeni Gough woohoo thank you 😊
I won’t have to cook at all this winter except for the holidays. I love it.
Would you personally add heavy cream when you heat it up? I'm not good with corn either does not like me
You could add cream! That would be excellent! You could add whatever you want after you crack it open, beans, extra veg, pasta, cream, more broth. cheese, tortilla strips, cilantro, more lime, sour cream, crema........ It really makes a great base soup. 🙂
What are you using around your neck to close your canner? Did you make that?
YES!! And soon they will be available on my channel for purchase!! I will be introducing them in the next month! 🙂
Oh yeah, the extra corn that you left out would have given you more volume. That’s why not much left over.♥️👍😎🌶
