Sadly ‽ The 60s were not a “good time”, Cuban Missile Crisis & Vietnam caused a huge amount of life & death worry for many people and a major upheaval in the US. The Soviet Union was at its worst with the Cuban Missile Crisis that came close to ending the world. The US had a president that lied about Vietnam and killed more Americans than died in Europe during WWII. Yeah, those were good times with forced drafts and people that you knew being killed in Vietnam for very bad reasons. The 60s were grim and ugly. Well Debbie, saw both bands back in the day, Spirit at Fillmore East and TYA outdoors at the Wollman Skating Rink in Central Park, NYC. Alvin and Randy California were both great guitarists, The same summer I saw TYA, I saw Led Zeppelin again at Wollman, All these shows were in the 3-4 dollar range if my memory is correct. Chew on that for a bit LOL. Best.
Alvin Lee was a great guitar player and a good singer. I believe that he was very underrated as a songwriter. The lyrics in this song, while very relevant when it first came out, are even more pertinent today. In my mind, he was a visionary.
It's funny how alot of lyrics written in the 70-80's ring true today. Maybe today's generation should spend more time doing drugs and less social media. We've become stagnant with our imagination.

Ten Years After was one of my father's two favorite bands--the other being Pink Floyd. Today would have been his 65th birthday, ten years after he committed suicide. I listen to Ten Years After and Pink Floyd quite often--I always have because of him. But today, it's a little bit darker outside, and nobody around me knows why I am listening.
This made me cry, as did Chris's reply. So much pain. I can't imagine...losing your parents in this way. My 19 year old son inadvertently introduced me to this track after his death 3 years ago (sudden accident). It was on his Spotify playlist. Pink Floyd was also his favourite band. As a family we saw PF in concert a few years ago. Best concert I've been to. I wish I had discovered my son's playlist while he was alive It's amazing. Would love to talk to him about his choices. Sending a hug to you both. 🤗❤
@komi8277 No we don't. We're not choosing evil. If god created everything then evil is his doing not ours. Since god is invisible and never talks until I hear directly from him then everything I hear comes from humans not god.
@komi8277 God gave us free will? Ok. Did he also give us polio, the plague and leprosy? If there's an evil force in the universe god created it. And in that continuing battle of good and evil why doesn't He just win? And what's with the hiding and being invisible? Is he too busy to do that one thing that would sure clear up all the confusion?
This band was HOT back then. Everyone i knew loved this band and especially Alvin Lee. I saw them with Deep Purple before i was out of HS. That was one rocking concert!

It's alright, thing is all of these guys were blown out of the water once guitar moved into the 80's. Satch, Steve Vai, Jake E. Lee, Vito Bratta, George Lynch, these types of guitarists just came in and ate their lunch.
@Douglas Thompson. Damn. Maybe if the guys you mentioned spent as much time practicing their technique as they did eating lunch (that you admitted didn't belong to them), then maybe they would've wrote something that kicked half as much ass as this.

I’m so excited for Amsterdam. The cast is incredible. The song for the trailer is incredible. It looks so fun and also Christian Bale is my favorite actor
In the late 60s and early 70s our lives were surrounded by music of this quality. Eventually we came to believe it would always be so. We are now disappointed.
ya know during that era the music was kinda a crossover from colored band and Caucasian bands we could listen to either music has the ability to join people of other races together.theres probably no other form that do that other than religion
Huh? It became possible to reproduce every instrument via computer. Music programs in schools are virtually gone, and no has the patience or wanting to master an instrument. Also lacking is the creativity of the 60s and 70s. Everyone was experimenting with new and different sounds.
That is the disconnect that got us to where we are, right now. "I'd love to change the world, but I don't know what to do. So, I'll leave it up to you." We were a trusting sort back then. Now we are screwed by those who did know what to do, and did it, to our demise.

You are right Spirit is definitely underrated. Saw them in early 70s
Ten Years After, Spirit, Mahavishnu Orchestra
Spirit-I'd forgot how much I loved their music....Thanks for the reminder.....
I 100% agree
Well Debbie, saw both bands back in the day, Spirit at Fillmore East and TYA outdoors at the Wollman Skating Rink in Central Park, NYC. Alvin and Randy California were both great guitarists, The same summer I saw TYA, I saw Led Zeppelin again at Wollman, All these shows were in the 3-4 dollar range if my memory is correct. Chew on that for a bit LOL. Best.
Love this song!!! Had NO idea this was from the 70’s.. MY Gen!🤣
Alvin Lee was a great guitar player and a good singer. I believe that he was very underrated as a songwriter. The lyrics in this song, while very relevant when it first came out, are even more pertinent today. In my mind, he was a visionary.
Well put RIP ALVIN LEE.
Well said Alvin Lee was so underrated
It's funny how alot of lyrics written in the 70-80's ring true today. Maybe today's generation should spend more time doing drugs and less social media. We've become stagnant with our imagination.

Classic song, very applicable for today's social atmosphere.

YESSIR! I just sent this to a friend and said this applies still. One of my favourite songs
Yes, especially the first verse. Tell me where is sanity?
So true and I might add Volunteers by Jefferson Airplane
@@dennis3178 The people in charge now, were the college students protesting the Establishment when this song came out, i.e. the Clintons....I smoked pot, but didn't inhale. They went Establishment from day one and the Money Grab started.

@Jack Cade I hope that's sarcasm pal. Progressive are the exact reason why you have politicians playing stupid woke politics rather than actually doing osmething useful.
@Jack Cade Exactly, incarceration of none violent drug offenders is a scam, billions are spent and like you said could be put towards education, medical and so much more.
My daughter is 15, she is well educated when it comes to music and she really loves this song, one of the best songs ever heard, she told me.
I feel your pain brother. My father did himself in 4 years ago after my mother passed. Losing both in a 3 week period has definitely left some scars.
Dude i think i know why. This song bring back powerful memorie to me as well.
Well.i feel down for you.wish u weren't alone.☮️🦋
Sorry for your loss brother.
"I'd Love to Change the World", so it's in Your Hands, LORD!!!
It's in our hands, not "the lords"
@komi8277 No we don't. We're not choosing evil. If god created everything then evil is his doing not ours. Since god is invisible and never talks until I hear directly from him then everything I hear comes from humans not god.
@komi8277 God gave us free will? Ok. Did he also give us polio, the plague and leprosy? If there's an evil force in the universe god created it. And in that continuing battle of good and evil why doesn't He just win? And what's with the hiding and being invisible? Is he too busy to do that one thing that would sure clear up all the confusion?
@komi8277 So I think people want to think "god created it" explains the universe. It doesn't. That's not even the question, who created god?
Nah
It's in ours
What an amazing timeless piece of music, the lyrics are prophetic. Alvin was one of the greatest guitarists ever.
Especially the first verse.
Thos song literally never gets old!!! The mesaage, the sound....the style....
Ten Years After, Thin Lizzy, Wishbone Ash!!! Never again will bands like this exist.
Now back to work on that time machine
Cool 😅
Music is our Time Machine. Thanks to all the Vietnam vets. Welcome home.
Real men weren''t coward baby killers and burned their draft cards. Like Donald Trump did.
God, thank you for letting me grow up during this time. Best music ever.
Indeed ❤
This band was HOT back then. Everyone i knew loved this band and especially Alvin Lee. I saw them with Deep Purple before i was out of HS. That was one rocking concert!
I seen them play at Roosevelt fiekd in New Jersey 1975 or76? They were awesome. I think.we would love to change the world but we just dont know wha Tg to do. This saying will always live on peace
Damn, jealous
Bet that WAS a killer show!
Literally one of the bests songs on the earth.
I love to change the world.
There is no denying it.
Yes it is!!!! So many songs from those fabulous days were. WE MAY BE OLD BUT WE WERE BLESSED! WE WERE THE LUCKIEST PEOPLE THERE WILL EVER BE IN THIS WORLD BECAUSE THE GREAT OLD HIPPIE DAYS!
I don't think you get the meaning of the lyrics. Too much LSD, maybe?

One of the most meaningful songs, growing up in the 70s!
Most meaningful today too.
2021...50 years after the release of this awesome hit and we still have some of the same problems...and more!
This song is really a gem!
Yeah, thank Biden for that.
One kick ass song
Alvin Lee of Ten Years After has always been one of my favorite guitarists.
My dad introduced me to this song in 2019. It gives me mixed, high and low emotions, everytime I hear it. Truly a masterpiece of artwork. Wish I had it on vinyl.
that walking guitar riff is hypnotic to listen to and absolutely intoxicating to play.
Yes! He's guitar playing..could listen forever..
His playing is so slick. It’s very Dhanjo Reinhardt
Just like a ring in a bell

I love that song, too bad I can't play guitar anymore. My hands don't work too well nowadays, back when I commented I could though. Good times.
I'm pushing 74, and it ain't getting any easier, but I can still play well enough to amuse myself...keep on jamming.... Were all in the same boat....floating off the end of the world....Life is a Carnival!
This my fellow people is nothing short of a TREASURE!!!!!!
My Dad has passed and this was his friends favorite song that he sang. So relevant today more then ever! My dad was a great singer, and I can understand why he loved this song :)

Do yourself a big "I deserve it" favor and find Alivin's solo live album "In Flight". Not only is the album fantastic...But in my humble opinion....the coolest album cover ever
Sorry to hear about your father. Our parents are gifts we treasure always even after they're gone. Always remember the good times you had with him. Although he wasn't the sperm donor who made me, my stepfather, who introduced me to this band, is my real father, and aside from my mother, he's the greatest person I've ever had in my life. I'm so proud and honored I've had him in my life for almost 40 years now.
This song has one of my favorite guitar solos of all times
I'm a Mexican musician, 23 year of age born in 97' and love and respect these genres of music if your listening to this in 2020 still, your fucken awesome.
The lead guitar work on this is masterful!

Still listening & lovin it in 2020

Yes, indeed!
"riffs" not "rifts"
This guitar solo is at the same level of Starway to heaven's. It is said. That solo has the power to level everything up
With Led Zeppelin being my favorite band of all time, Stairway is my least favorite Led Zeppelin song. I would even say this solo is better than the solo in Stairway..
it's pretty awesome isn't it?
Better. Saw 10 Years After in concert. Tucson, AZ 1976
I’d say it’s like the solo for White Room, better than Stairway To Heaven’s
love the way the drums just roll in so smooth
A huge space in time cuz were still here, almost 50 years after.

As someone who was born in 1990, I miss the seventies
I certainly didn't think that would be the case. RIP Alvin

In the late 60s and early 70s our lives were surrounded by music of this quality. Eventually we came to believe it would always be so. We are now disappointed.
The distribution and message was controlled and distorted
ya know during that era the music was kinda a crossover from colored band and Caucasian bands we could listen to either music has the ability to join people of other races together.theres probably no other form that do that other than religion
Huh? It became possible to reproduce every instrument via computer. Music programs in schools are virtually gone, and no has the patience or wanting to master an instrument. Also lacking is the creativity of the 60s and 70s. Everyone was experimenting with new and different sounds.
Those were the days, we thought they'd never end.....
We won the time lotto!!!!!
I was listening to Cricklewood Green back.when I was 10 yrs old.Glad I did.
That is the disconnect that got us to where we are, right now.
"I'd love to change the world, but I don't know what to do. So, I'll leave it up to you."
We were a trusting sort back then. Now we are screwed by those who did know what to do, and did it, to our demise.
Disconnect, good word for this. But don't blame the messenger. Who knows what to do? Anybody? Pipe up please we need a plan ~
