    August 1971, leaving for Vietnam. I survived and I'm listening to this today, April 11, 2022. And today January 16, 2023. And today, August 4, 2023. Listening again on this day, January 6, 2024. It never gets old. And now it's Memorial Day, May 27, 2024. Listening to this great song again, and remembering.

      1971 was an amazing year in music. In addition to A Space In Time, other albums released that year included:
      Jethro Tull - Aqualung
      Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers
      Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality
      Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV
      The Who - Who's Next

      I almost said that, but you beat me to it. "Tell me where is sanity"--hey that is the battle cry today. I grew up hearing this and similar songs, and it really made me think. I think their is a special "heaven" reserved for musicians like this, who may have been one hit wonders, but dammit they made a difference!

    • @graveyardghost2603
      @graveyardghost2603 3 года назад +5

      @Willie Gordon because I guess I didn't hear it. Went back and listened again...dang, now I hear it. I wouldn't have repeated it though, if I "had" heard it. I wonder why they would say that. "Tell me where is sanity" is a very good question about the world in general however, so I still think what I said is relevant--even if I took it out of context.

      Sadly ‽ The 60s were not a “good time”, Cuban Missile Crisis & Vietnam caused a huge amount of life & death worry for many people and a major upheaval in the US. The Soviet Union was at its worst with the Cuban Missile Crisis that came close to ending the world. The US had a president that lied about Vietnam and killed more Americans than died in Europe during WWII. Yeah, those were good times with forced drafts and people that you knew being killed in Vietnam for very bad reasons. The 60s were grim and ugly. JFK being killed, students being shot on campus, etc … So unless you were a draft dodger enjoying not being shot at, listening to the music and other things, the 60s were not something to wish for.
      The 70s were much better after the US got out of Vietnam.

      And the line "so I leave it up to you," is basically passing the buck. Too many of us just talk and say things should be different. Yet they think someone else should do it because they don't know how. Even those we select don't seem to know how - and they keep passing the buck. The problems persist and will persist for generations, which is why this song is so meaningful 50 years later. Let's stand up!

      I will concede that the world will get worse if you wish to consider that as change then you have it.
