  • I take you shopping and show you what I recommend in a rod and reel for the beginner bass fisherman! Do you fish open water or heavy cover, how much do you want to spend, what about the size, recommended line and action are all issues that I cover!

    Thank you Roland for all you do for us on YT.
    My son has had a nice Pflueger Trion combo for a few seasons and it has performed very well. Now for xmas I just took delivery of a new St. Croix MOJO Bass spinning 6 10 medium light extra fast rod and paired it with a new Pflueger Supreme reel 3000 size. Total budget is higher at about 240. This will be for him. I know he wont be able to put it down. A Rabid bass fisherman he is! We will be fishing the lakes in NW Wisconsin for small and large mouth bass.
    MERRY CHRISTMAS Roland!

    Thanks for posting this video for those just starting out in fishing, it's very good info. I have some very expensive combos that I love but when I first started bass fishing i had alot less expensive equipment and still managed to catch good fish . Your hooks and line is where I feel you should not go cheap. Also I see where 1 "Jackwagon" has hit the thumbs down!!! Mr. Martin has forgotten more about fishing than most of us will ever learn...

    I really like my Duckett's , I have the white ice, micro magic pro,
    Ghost, and several other series' from Duckett, and top em out with lew's reel's and it's like your feeling everything and casting like veteran! I do also have several favorite rod's and lew's rod's I built up.
    I started with the carbon lite rod's & reel's as a beginner but quickly outgrew them, but they work fine for a beginner.

      I can only tell you about the ones I own but I had alot of trouble with my Abu Garcia silvermax button clutch. I really love my 13 fishing concept a but that sales over. The shimano slx is an amazing reel and you can get it for 80$ at shopkarls with the free trial. The shimano genpu 200pg is an amazing big baits reel but you can only get it on digitaka and ebay since its a japan domestic product. The shimano bass one is also a fantastic jdm product. If your looking for something you can snag on Amazon I recommend the Daiwa cr80 its like 80$ I bought a repackaged one from Amazon warehouse for 50$. I also love my Daiwa bass x also on digitaka and ebay for around 90$ and thats all the ones I own and feel I can talk about. Also tacklewarehouse is starting a 40% off sale on some awesome bait casters from good brands that I would buy myself.

    • @SaltySeaCaptain
      @SaltySeaCaptain 3 года назад +1

      dont skimp out on a bait casting reel. I went through about 5 reels under $100 bucks before I got a Shimano Curado and that reel is the best BC I've ever used and I've been using it for about 2 years with no problems.

    Great info again Roland. In addition to inquiring what type of water they planned to fish, what type of fish they are hoping to catch. I would ask how often they plan on fishing? If they are going once a year or maybe even just once for some type of special occasion and they hope to get panfish well the 17 dollar reel is good enough. As you alluded to it may not last long. Are they planning to go on a one week vacation, planning to fish every weekend? Maybe the person bought a vacation home on the water and they plan on fishing everyday. Well Son, join the club. ... lol

      If you go any more expensive than a G. Loomis you better have a specific purpose for that rod. Also obviously more expensive gear is better you get what you pay for, but you need a good reason to pay for it.
