Roland Martin, I’ve been following you for over 30 years. “Cast..Catch..Count.. & Mount..” Thank you for all that you do. You’ve been an inspiration for me and now for my son Bass Bandit.
Two of the best spinning reels I have owned over the years are the abu Garcia cardinal and the pfleuger president. I hope this helps someone. Thank you, Roland, for your advice
Thank you Roland! Please continue making content like this! This is extremely helpful to me and my friends who’ve never fished before! We’re gonna go this season now!
Bro I love your videos so much, like anytime I ask people in real life about fishing or what to use their very quiet and stuff which doesn’t help but jeez ur awesome man
I wonder how it must be just doing your job at bass pro and running into one of the greatest fisherman of our time. It’s always fun watching you Roland!
Thanks Mr Martin, to you for your advice. In the yr that I have been fishing, I have crammed so much feeshin knowledge into my head that I was with you on every point in this video to help one of my church buddy's buy a beginner rig!!
Thank you Roland for all you do for us on YT. My son has had a nice Pflueger Trion combo for a few seasons and it has performed very well. Now for xmas I just took delivery of a new St. Croix MOJO Bass spinning 6 10 medium light extra fast rod and paired it with a new Pflueger Supreme reel 3000 size. Total budget is higher at about 240. This will be for him. I know he wont be able to put it down. A Rabid bass fisherman he is! We will be fishing the lakes in NW Wisconsin for small and large mouth bass. MERRY CHRISTMAS Roland!
Right on Roland, and with the braid no line twists like on monofilament . I'll be buying some spinning rod and reels in this price range soon and I will practice on the double uni knot you taught. Thanks!
I recommend a 6'6" Ugly Stik Gx2 Medium Spinning Rod, with a Pleuger President Reel to start out with. Around $100, and a great first fishing rod. Cant go wrong!
Thanks for posting this video for those just starting out in fishing, it's very good info. I have some very expensive combos that I love but when I first started bass fishing i had alot less expensive equipment and still managed to catch good fish . Your hooks and line is where I feel you should not go cheap. Also I see where 1 "Jackwagon" has hit the thumbs down!!! Mr. Martin has forgotten more about fishing than most of us will ever learn...
Thanks for the tip Roland. I'll be headed to Bass Pro right after Christmas for a new rod and reel. My daughter is giving me some Bass Pro gift cards as a Xmas present. Hope to see you there, my friend.
Great info again Roland. In addition to inquiring what type of water they planned to fish, what type of fish they are hoping to catch. I would ask how often they plan on fishing? If they are going once a year or maybe even just once for some type of special occasion and they hope to get panfish well the 17 dollar reel is good enough. As you alluded to it may not last long. Are they planning to go on a one week vacation, planning to fish every weekend? Maybe the person bought a vacation home on the water and they plan on fishing everyday. Well Son, join the club. ... lol
I really like my Duckett's , I have the white ice, micro magic pro, Ghost, and several other series' from Duckett, and top em out with lew's reel's and it's like your feeling everything and casting like veteran! I do also have several favorite rod's and lew's rod's I built up. I started with the carbon lite rod's & reel's as a beginner but quickly outgrew them, but they work fine for a beginner.
I can only tell you about the ones I own but I had alot of trouble with my Abu Garcia silvermax button clutch. I really love my 13 fishing concept a but that sales over. The shimano slx is an amazing reel and you can get it for 80$ at shopkarls with the free trial. The shimano genpu 200pg is an amazing big baits reel but you can only get it on digitaka and ebay since its a japan domestic product. The shimano bass one is also a fantastic jdm product. If your looking for something you can snag on Amazon I recommend the Daiwa cr80 its like 80$ I bought a repackaged one from Amazon warehouse for 50$. I also love my Daiwa bass x also on digitaka and ebay for around 90$ and thats all the ones I own and feel I can talk about. Also tacklewarehouse is starting a 40% off sale on some awesome bait casters from good brands that I would buy myself.
dont skimp out on a bait casting reel. I went through about 5 reels under $100 bucks before I got a Shimano Curado and that reel is the best BC I've ever used and I've been using it for about 2 years with no problems.
Well rolling center shopping I'll take a pro qualifier to baitcaster fill it with some 20 lb braid and give me a good St Croix or a Johnny Morris 7-ft medium heavy rod that would be a great Christmas present thank you Roland
I must have ten grand plus on beach tackle and I still say cheap gear and lots of time on the water beats Expensive gear that only comes out once in a blue moon Listen to this bloke he knows you know Stay healthy all Ps I must be an idiot but I like tackle what can I say
Roland is the Best! I just moved to Florida and started using Braid because of his recommendations I will never go back. Question which Brand braid is the best?
Loved the video. I would really like to see a similar video with casting rods and reels. My budget for a combo is about $150.00 to $160.00 I fish on a 10' sit on top kayak. Is there a combo in that price range that would work for senior's and frogs?
Shimano sellus w/ shimano nexave or daiwa Aird x w/ daiwa revros... Best bang for the buck if you're talking $100 combos (rod and reel sold separately)
Is fluorocarbon an option? My favorite reel is a carbon lite 8-3 on a 6 10 rod I am fishing in Missouri what do you consider the best lake close to me I have fished Sam Rayburn. I met you at the bass master classic at the B.O.K. Center in Tulsa, Ok a few years back. Keep on keepin on. GOD bless!
What’s your take on high end rods and reels. Been fishing with loomis rods for years. With reels running around $200 and up. My question is it better to have a high end rod or reel?
If you go any more expensive than a G. Loomis you better have a specific purpose for that rod. Also obviously more expensive gear is better you get what you pay for, but you need a good reason to pay for it.
I was hoping this would be about the REAL beginners, I have two grandkids that are four and five years old can you recommend a combo rod and reel for them to start with, that won’t fall apart
Never had a good experience in Cabela's at all the service is not good at all in New Mexico and is the only one and I hear this from other people around my city. So I go to sportsman's wherehouse service that is great and the people knows me and others. Combo ABU Garcia STX in medium power fast Action size 30 reel or medium heavy power moderate fast Action rod 7' size 40 reel is the money. i refuse to go higher than $100 I don't even keep the fish and having 25+ rod's for the average joe.
Imagine walking into Bass Pro and seeing this legend!
😱😱😱
@@rodrigoelgu I meet him years ago at bass pro shop he’s a legend
I’m a legend, too; but, it just because I’m old.
Who else would love to walk around Bass Pro with Roland and get his advice?
I would probably be right next to the cameraman
I love how kind he is to the kid that photobombed his recording.
Thanks Roland. You’re a treasure to the fishing community.
I was a beginner 30 years ago and guess who taught me what I needed? Mr Roland Martin only I had to watch it on TV with no DVR lol
That's back in the 1900s. I was right there with you.
Roland Martin,
I’ve been following you for over 30 years.

Love watching Roland ! Brightens up the day.
Very cool and I like the common sense approach and budget thinking also.

Sounds like a good solid setup

Thanks Roland! This will be a big help with alot of folks for Christmas.
An encyclopedia of knowledge
I recommend a 6'6" Ugly Stik Gx2 Medium Spinning Rod, with a Pleuger President Reel to start out with. Around $100, and a great first fishing rod. Cant go wrong!
Idk man ugly stiks are really heavy they won't break but if you're fishing for a while it gets tiring
Great video. Always good tips! Thanks for all the information!!

That qualifier 2 (bass pro brand) rod is one of my favorites!!!
Thanks for the tip Roland. I'll be headed to Bass Pro right after Christmas for a new rod and reel. My daughter is giving me some Bass Pro gift cards as a Xmas present. Hope to see you there, my friend.

Can you do a video on affordable bait casting rod and reel combos
I can only tell you about the ones I own but I had alot of trouble with my Abu Garcia silvermax button clutch. I really love my 13 fishing concept a but that sales over. Nice video 👍
Great Video 👍👍.
What about beginner Bait Cast Combos?
I started and still fishing the Abu Garcia Black Mac, 7' Medium Heavy?
I must have ten grand plus on beach tackle and I still say cheap gear and lots of time on the water beats Expensive gear that only comes out once in a blue moon Listen to this bloke he knows you know Stay healthy all Ps I must be an idiot but I like tackle what can I say
With winter coming on here in Florida what three rods and baits would you rig up to fish for bass
Roland is the Best! I just moved to Florida and started using Braid because of his recommendations I will never go back. Question which Brand braid is the best?
hahaa, what he means by "Santa Clause is comin'" kid is "Where are your parents?!!" I'm happy to see you still teaching Mr. Martin!
Loved the video. I would really like to see a similar video with casting rods and reels. My budget for a combo is about $150.00 to $160.00 I fish on a 10' sit on top kayak. Is there a combo in that price range that would work for senior's and frogs?
My Pops is old as Ric Flair. I gave him a Lews Mach 1 outfit and it does him well out of his Bonafide SOT kayak.
Shimano sellus w/ shimano nexave or daiwa Aird x w/ daiwa revros... Best bang for the buck if you're talking $100 combos (rod and reel sold separately)
Is this the fort myers location? If it is I’m pulling up.
That was very informative. Thank you. Now to find a way to save $100.00🙂
How do we know if the real is a size 30? Does it say size 30 on it somewhere? Also what about using Floracarbon on a spinning wheel?
Do you need a lighter action rod for braid or is that kinda a myth?
Is fluorocarbon an option? My favorite reel is a carbon lite 8-3 on a 6 10 rod I am fishing in Missouri what do you consider the best lake close to me I have fished Sam Rayburn. I met you at the bass master classic at the B.O.K. Center in Tulsa, Ok a few years back. Keep on keepin on. GOD bless!
I’m curious about Flora carbon as well. I’ve seen several RUclips fisherman claim they always fish straight Flora carbon
I flora carbon has stretch than mono although I have been experimenting with braid and a flora carbon leader. But you know much better than I !
What’s your take on high end rods and reels. Been fishing with loomis rods for years. With reels running around $200 and up. My question is it better to have a high end rod or reel?
Do pigs pork?
If you go any more expensive than a G. Loomis you better have a specific purpose for that rod. Also obviously more expensive gear is better you get what you pay for, but you need a good reason to pay for it.
Do they sell carp stuff at bass pro? Great video and like always keep up the hard work and tight linZ🤙🎣!
The Bass Pro near me use to sell Daiwa Maddragon carp rods.
why do I want a bigger reel?
Awe cute kid
That’s good😈
What’s happening roland?
I was hoping this would be about the REAL beginners, I have two grandkids that are four and five years old can you recommend a combo rod and reel for them to start with, that won’t fall apart
Is uglystik good?
Roland I know you can afford the Hex!
Never had a good experience in Cabela's at all the service is not good at all in New Mexico and is the only one and I hear this from other people around my city.
